Chapter 395: JUST A LITTLE MORE
Three days later, Adam used the water of a fresh river that he had found to wash the wounds on his body and rest his spirit and renew his vigor for the next adversaries that would surely find him soon.
Standing naked under the waterfall, it was hard to recognize his body any longer. He became a little taller, and he could also feel himself becoming stronger— his muscles were tightly strung, bigger but not by too much, and were very well formed.
'I didn't think I could grow muscles. It's a novel feeling…'
On Earth, he had already reached the level where muscles were useless for him so it was kinda new and exciting to see him growing these bad boys on his body. It seemed like proof that his soul was growing stronger by the second.
Many scars were covering his body but Adam simply used his accumulated Dreamforce to heal the most important wounds. Healing consumed more energy than even creating new things out of his powers.n0.0
Adam summarized that this was because the body here was the soul and as such was simultaneously the baseline of everything that tied his existence to this world. So affecting it needed much more power than affecting the world.
Right now though, it didn't matter. He felt bloated and simply wished to relax his mind for some time.
'Just a little more. I just need a little more push.'
Something was constantly whispering in his mind that he simply needed one more step to enter a completely new world. He needed a challenge and he knew where he was going to find it.
He just needed to wait for the right time and something was telling him that the opportune moment was about to arrive before him… soon…
'Report.'
One of the shadows appeared right next to him and after Adam put his hand on top of its shadowy exterior, pictures and sounds flowed freely into his mind, letting him witness the scenes that the shadow witnessed like a video.
This was a little technique that he had developed recently and this handy trick allowed him to keep his mind freer without wasting any energy.
He could send the shadows out with a set of instructions to scout out the area or do an individual task and then simply read their memories, later on, to see how they fared. They could even send a warning to him if it instructed them well beforehand.
It was truly a useful skill. As useful as anything could get for him…
Right now, the picture flashing in his mind was about the position of the Queen Bee of the beehive. He could see that during the last few days, the number of attacks on him had lowered to the point of being non-existent. But rather than being happy about such an event, he was becoming warier and warier by the second and even sent his shadow to spy on the enemies.
"I see. Even the gate is open, huh…?"
The beehive looked like a normal one from Earth, except of course the disproportionate structure of the whole thing. For all three days, the number of guards on the wall went front a few dozen to only five or so and now there was literally no one else outside to protect the hive from any infiltrators.
One didn't need to be a genius to know that something fishy was going on in that place. The shadow entered and observed some of the interior and all it could see was the dead body of many of those workers and soldier bees sprawled about on the ground.
Rather than being killed by an outside force, it looked as though they had been killing and devouring each other before being devoured by something even bigger than themselves.
Adam immediately came up with the most plausible theory. Every one of the bees' allies turned against them and started a feast or the Queen herself was the one who had started the cannibalistic spree.
In the end, though, no matter who did it, that person would become incredibly strong and dangerous. So dangerous even that facing them might mean instant death for him or at the very least a very difficult combat was waiting for him on the horizon.
'Perfect.'
Unknowingly, a grin slowly appeared on his face.
This was the perfect stage for him— one last stand against a powerful foe, what could be better than this?
Steam started to appear all around him, as his body temperature continued to rise without showing any sign of stopping. In the end, he took a deep breath and when he finally released it— a large pillar of fire shot out from his mouth and covered the river, giving out even more steam.
He twirled his hand and two daggers appeared between them, before more and more daggers started to appear in the surroundings, floating in the air— all connected with strings of Dreamforce that he weaved with meticulous control.
Adam had learned many new things while fighting in this place and while he was still unable to bring out 'The World' to the land of dreams, it wasn't impossible to simply copy some of the skills he used with the power of his ultimate skill..
Such as telekinesis.
Now that he was ready, it was time to end this whole charade in the best way possible— his victory.
.
.
.
When Adam reached the entrance of the beehive, he recognized that… similar to the video footage that he saw in his mind through the shadow's memories, there were no more guards in the surroundings, taking care of the security of the hive and the Queen.
This could only mean two things at best.
Either they had all fled or the one who needed protection had no need for it anymore. Both were cumbersome for him, but it only served to excite him further.
"I feel like I am about to enter the ring for a boss fight of one of those Soulsborne games."
Adam twirled his shoulders slightly and looked at his shadow. His two fateful partners had taken a few hostages along the way. For Adam, they were an emergency resource of energy if the fight prolonged for too long and went above his weight league.
"Come~!"
An alluring and adult woman's voice entered his ears, he felt as if someone was trying to put him into a dazed fog. To make him lose all understanding of what was happening and make him fall into an illusion.
Sadly for whoever this voice belonged to— illusions were completely useless against him.
Still, he did not show it and put on a vacant expression as he started to walk in the direction of the voice.
Whoever it would be, he would fight it with everything he had even if it was the last thing he did in this world before coming back for vengeance once more a few days later.
Grabbing hold of the daggers with greater strength in his arms, Adam entered the beehive deeper, ignoring the sticky honey all around him as well as the corpse of the bees strewn around all over— almost akin to a child who didn't like the meal he was given and had splattered it all over.
Finally, at the end of the tunnel, he was able to find his enemy. He had to admit, what he saw was not what he had expected in the least.
(AN: The fight arc won't be too long. I think fights shouldn't be too long as the hype slowly dies. So only two or three. Grand max would be four.)
