MHA: The Hero With the Sun [DISCONTINUED]

Chapter 19: Chapter 18: The Inferno That Shapes Heroes

The first day of the internship with Endeavor's Agency was nothing short of intense. Kenji arrived alongside Todoroki at the towering Endeavor Agency building, its sheer size a testament to the power and reputation of the Number Two Hero. The moment they stepped inside, they were met with a strict and disciplined atmosphere heroes and sidekicks moving with precision, their gazes sharp and focused.

Endeavor himself wasted no time.

"I don't take interns who aren't ready to work," he said, his deep voice carrying an undeniable authority. His gaze landed on Todoroki for a fraction longer before shifting to Kenji. "You fought well at the Sports Festival, but that means nothing here. Strength isn't enough. If you can't keep up, leave."

Kenji's amber eyes burned with determination. He had expected Endeavor to be harsh, and he welcomed the challenge. "I didn't come here for hand-holding," he said. "I came to get stronger."

A faint smirk ghosted across Endeavor's face. "Then don't waste my time."

The first day of training was grueling. Endeavor pushed both of them relentlessly, forcing Kenji to refine his control over Solar Core in ways he hadn't before. The agency specialized in high-intensity missions, often dealing with fire-related emergencies, villain captures, and large-scale rescues. Kenji's heat-resistant suit helped him endure the extreme conditions, but even that had its limits.

Forging a Stronger Flame

One of the toughest exercises involved Endeavor launching massive fireballs at them, demanding they either dodge or counter.

Todoroki skillfully weaved between the flames, occasionally using his ice to block or redirect them. Kenji, however, had to rely entirely on his speed and agility. He used Solar Flare to create blinding bursts of light, disorienting Endeavor momentarily before dodging.

"Too slow," Endeavor grunted as he launched another wave.

Kenji gritted his teeth, pushing himself harder. He couldn't just dodge forever he had to attack. Summoning the solar energy within him, he unleashed a concentrated beam of light, aiming for Endeavor's feet to throw him off balance.

For the first time, the Pro Hero seemed mildly impressed. "Hmph. You finally stopped running."

Kenji exhaled sharply. His stamina was draining fast using his quirk at this level burned through his reserves quickly. That was his weakness. He needed to find a way to make his energy last longer.

That night, Kenji sat outside the agency's training grounds, staring up at the night sky. He heard footsteps and turned to see Todoroki approaching.

"You did well today," Todoroki said.

Kenji sighed. "Did I? Feels like I'm still just barely keeping up."

Todoroki sat down next to him. "Endeavor is brutal, but he wouldn't push you this hard if he didn't see potential. I know how he trains people. If you weren't worth his time, he wouldn't bother."

Kenji glanced at him. "That supposed to be encouragement?"

Todoroki gave a small shrug. "Take it however you want."

Kenji chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'll take it."

They sat in silence for a moment before Kenji spoke again. "Why'd you really come here? After everything that happened between you and him."

Todoroki's jaw tightened slightly, but he answered. "Because I need to move forward. I spent too long running from my fire side. Now, I need to understand it on my own terms."

Kenji nodded. He understood that feeling all too well. Facing the very thing that shaped you whether you hated it or not was the only way to grow.

A Trial by Fire

The next few days continued in much the same way harsh, relentless training that left Kenji on the verge of exhaustion. But slowly, he began to adapt.

He learned to regulate his energy output, pacing himself instead of burning through his reserves too quickly. He refined his Solar Flare technique, developing a new variation where he could focus the light into concentrated bursts, like flashbangs.

One evening, Endeavor gathered them both. "Tomorrow, we're going on a field mission. You'll see firsthand what it means to work in a real hero agency. Don't slow me down."

Kenji's heart pounded with excitement. This was his chance to prove himself not just to Endeavor, but to himself.

As the sun set on the horizon, he clenched his fists, feeling the warmth of his power coursing through him.

He had come far, but his journey was just getting started.
