The moment I let go of the baseball, the flux instantly reverted to its original perfect spherical shape. And by instantly, I meant that the energy transfer happened within an infinitesimal period, something beyond mortal comprehension. Even if I had been given all the time in existence, I wouldn't have been able to find the words to describe the phenomenon, but I could feel it on a fundamental level. Something that stretched beyond the impossible.

Like my punches, there was a moment of deadly silence before a loud boom shattered the air. A shockwave ripped across the ground as the baseball shattered the sound barrier.

I stumbled back as the shockwave nearly knocked me off my feet, and my ears rang from the concussive force, "Fuck!"

Similar cries came from those behind me, and I couldn't help but rub the back of my head sheepishly as I turned towards Aizawa, "Sorry, sir, I didn't think it would break the sound barrier."

Despite his proximity, Aizawa didn't seem bothered. Instead, he turned his scanner around and showed everyone the number on the display: "1029 meters. Not bad. You can return to your classmates."

I nodded and walked back over as Aizawa stood front and center once more, "As Kenji demonstrated, your quirks are tools; adapt them as the scenario calls for it. That is the purpose of this test and the most important lesson to learn. And to make sure you understand its importance, whoever comes in last for this test will be expelled from the school."

My class erupted in outcry as no one doubted Aizawa's intentions for a moment, "Sir, you can't be serious. The administration would never-"

"Here at UA, the administration allows teachers to run their classes as they see fit. And I suggest you never question my sincerity ever again. Do I make myself clear, Ida?" Aizawa replied coldly as he started Foureyes down despite being a few inches shorter.

Ida stiffened before he dipped his head, "Yes, sir."

"Good. Now, if there aren't any more distractions, I suggest all of you start thinking about how you can avoid going home and telling your parent that you didn't make it past the first day. Bakugo, you're up next for the ball throw!"

"He can't be serious about expelling last place...right?" Kaminari, a boy with spiky yellow hair with black highlights, asked nervously as he glanced at Aizawa skeptically.

"I don't know, the guy looks like he doesn't know what a joke is," Sero replied, another boy with chin-length black hair spiked downwards and jagged bangs coming about halfway down his forehead, "But I can't go home to my parents if I get expelled, do you know what they would do to me?!"

Before Kaminari could respond, there was a loud boom accompanied by a flash of light as Katsumi threw the baseball propelled by her quirk, "705.2 meters, good. Uraraka, your next."

"O-okay," a shy, short girl with shoulder-length hair, short bangs, and style bobbed with two long strands framing her face answered as she walked over to Aizawa nervously.

I watched as she took the baseball. She was clearly unfamiliar with how to throw one, and she adopted an unsteady pitcher's stance before limply throwing the ball. Much to everyone's surprise, the ball continued in a straight line instead of falling to the ground, lazily flying off into the distance before it disappeared on the horizon.

Aizawa then turned the scanner around to show an infinite symbol, "Well, I think that's a record."

"What, how is that fair!" Katsumi exclaimed, only to be silenced by a sharp glare from Aizawa, "It isn't fair, and nothing ever will be. If you have a problem with it, get better. Midoriya, you're up!"

Uraraka quickly made her way back to the group, avoiding Katsumi's hostile gaze as the green-haired boy that Katsumi had been fighting with earlier in the homeroom stepped forward.

My initial impression of him was almost as bad as Uraraka's, his shoulders hunched over as if constantly anticipating a punch. But maybe his performance would be just as surprising as Uraraka's.

The class watched on in silence as Midoriya took a baseball from Aizawa before stepping onto the pitcher's mound. After a moment, the conflicted look on his face settled into one of painful resolution as he cocked his arm back, which exploded with neon turquoise lightning as his surprisingly well-defined arms flexed with strength. But as he threw the ball, the lightning surrounding his arm was suddenly snuffed out, and the sudden shock broke Midoriya's concentration. The ball only traveled a few feet before dropping to the ground.

Midoriya's face paled as he stared at the ball, clearly just as baffled as the rest of us.

"If you can't use your quirk without shattering your arm, I might as well expel you right now and save the nurse some paperwork," Aizawa replied coldly and everyone looked over to see that his normally droopy eyes were now wide open, and glowing a bright red as his hair and scarf floated up in the air around his head.

"Holy shit, he's Eraser Head!" Kaminari exclaimed in a hushed whisper, making everyone's ears perk up, "I knew that UA hired the best, but I didn't expect a vet like him to be our homeroom teacher."

Everyone looked back to Aizawa with newfound respect. While he wasn't the most popular hero or the most powerful, his ability to nullify someone else's quirk with just a gaze was a dangerous threat.

"Show me that you can use your quirk without destroying your body," Aizawa continued to address Midoriyda as he blinked, deactivating his quirk.

Midoriya stared at Aizawa for a moment longer before he nodded, retrieved the baseball, and took it to the mound once more. Midoriya paused for a moment longer before he cocked his arm back and threw the ball, but at the very last second, his pointer finger erupted with cyan lightning, and with a bang, the baseball was sent flying through the air.

As the ball disappeared on the horizon, Midoriya turned back around with tears in his eyes. He clutched his finger, which had turned a solid purple and was obviously broken, but he was grinning through it all. "So, how did I do?"

Aizawa's face was impassive, but he turned around, the scanner showing 705.3 meters.

"Impossible!" Katsumi's voice rang out as she ran forward, heading straight for Midoriya, stunning everybody. "So you've been lying about having a quirk this whole time! Were you pranking me for all these years?"

"Katsumi?!" Midoriya asked, clearly shocked as he stumbled back, fear evident in his eyes. But before Katsumi could reach him, Aizawa's scarf shot out, binding her in the blink of an eye with an iron grasp.

Katsumi struggled against her binding, but the material held firm, and with Aizawa's eyes glowing, there was no way for Katsumi to activate her quirk, "You will stop this instant, or I will expel you."

Aizawa's voice was ice cold, cutting through Katsumi's burning rage as she stopped struggling and stilled, though her eyes still glared at Midoriya.

Seeing Katsumi relax, Aizawa sighed before unfurling his scarf from around her, "The next person to make me use my quirk on them will be disqualified. I expect more from all of you, and I am dangerously close to cleaning my hands of every last one of you. Am I understood?"

"Yes, sir!"

Fortunately, the test continued without a hitch from there on out, and in total, we had seven other tests.

The first was a fifty-meter dash, which I naturally dominated, with a time of sub-three seconds, much to Ida's silent frustration as I beat him in his domain. While his top speed was undoubtedly faster than mine, with my limit flux, he still had to obey the laws of acceleration, while I didn't, essentially giving me a head start.

The only other event I came in first place was the distance run. Being able to move at a constant speed as long as I had flux was essentially cheating, but one of my classmates, Yaoyorozu, a girl with a mature build and long black hair tied into a spiky ponytail with a large strand hanging on the right, created an electric scooter and just rode that nearly beating me when it came to speed.

After that, the test got significantly more mundane, with the remaining tests being sit-ups, toe touches, standing long jumps, repeated side jumps, and grip strength. Thankfully, with my growing musculature and training regiment, I was able to pull ahead of some of my classmates whose quirks didn't give them a leg up.

But there was an even more valuable experience as I watched my classmates and started to piece together their quirks. Some were more obvious, like Asui, who I learned liked to be called Tsu. Anyone with a working pair of eyes would have been able to tell she had a mutation quirk heavily related to frogs. She easily cleared the sand pit on the long jump and took first place on the toe touch after flattening her body to the ground.

Eventually, the test ended, leaving everyone thoroughly exhausted as we gathered before Aizawa. He wrote something down on a clipboard before addressing us: "Even though it took a while for this class to get its act together, you managed to pull through in the end. As such, I will not be expelling last place. That's it for today; you have a couple of minutes before lunch before you have to report to afternoon classes."

Then, without another word, Aizawa turned and walked away, leaving all of us confused and disoriented.
