Chapter 27: XXVI Targets.
Hyper Beam
From above, Raiden unleashed a brilliant purple beam of energy, hurtling toward its target at an astonishing speed. The dark villain below widened his eyes in alarm, the searing attack reflecting in his gaze. "These kids aren't a joke," the shadowed figure thought grimly.
In terms of raw combat ability, they were already operating at the level of an average hero. But there were four of them. Alone, he was confident he could handle each one individually, but together, they posed a far greater challenge—a synergy that multiplied their strength exponentially.
Still, his thoughts were irrelevant in the face of the oncoming danger. There was no time to strategize. Acting on pure instinct, he activated his power with desperate urgency, merging seamlessly into the surrounding shadows just as the beam descended. His form vanished into the floor as if it were water, narrowly avoiding obliteration.
On the other side of the battlefield, Raiden staggered slightly, his chest heaving. Hyper Beam was powerful, but it came with a cost—an immense toll on his stamina. His mind remained sharp, but his body felt drained, the weight of the attack bearing down on him. He knew this wasn't an ability he could use repeatedly. Unlike his more practiced techniques—Confusion, Swift, Life Dew, and Mega Punch—which he had trained to execute consecutively, Hyper Beam demanded significant recovery time. Mastery of his other abilities was steadily improving, but this attack stood apart, still far too taxing to rely on consistently.
Raiden's sharp instincts told him the fight was far from over. His attack had carved a deep gouge into the ground and obliterated part of a nearby building, but the enemy wasn't defeated. He had felt the beam make contact, yet he also sensed the villain slipping away at the last moment. Without hesitation, he sent a mental warning to his teammates, urging them to remain vigilant.
The group scanned their surroundings, each on high alert. Then, they saw it—not the man himself, but his shadows. The dark tendrils erupted from every direction, attacking with relentless fury. Despite the chaos, one thing had changed—the villain had reappeared.
He stood at the end of the alley, his silhouette battered and broken. His right arm was gone, severed entirely from shoulder to fingertips, and his labored breathing filled the tense silence. He swayed unsteadily, blood dripping to the ground in a steady rhythm. Though he had narrowly escaped the full force of Hyper Beam, the damage he sustained was severe.
The sight of him in this state sent a chill through the young heroes. By all accounts, he should have collapsed from the pain alone. Tamaki's voice echoed in their minds, urging them to remain focused. Shadows lashed out from every angle, but he expertly deflected them, creating a protective barrier that prevented the villain from escaping.
"We can't wait for help anymore," Tamaki said, his tone firm. "It's been too long. Our only option is to run—but first, we have to incapacitate him. If we can exhaust him enough to disrupt his quirk, Raiden will have a chance to use Disable."
"But how is he still attacking?" one of the younger boys asked, his voice trembling.
"How is he even still alive?" Nejire murmured, her eyes wide with disbelief.
If someone looked closely, they would notice the shadows no longer fully cloaked the villain. Instead, they thinned, exposing fragments of his human form—a pale, gaunt figure whose expression betrayed a conflicted mix of fear and unyielding determination. Trembling, he raised his remaining hand toward the group of young heroes. At his silent command, the shadows coiled around him, swiftly forming a dark, writhing whip. With a grim resolve, he directed the whip toward the stump of his missing arm, pressing it into the wound with brutal force.
Blood seeped from the grotesque scene as the shadows embedded themselves into his flesh. The sight was horrifying, freezing the four heroes in place for a moment. Though they knew they should act, a wave of disgust churned in their stomachs, rendering them momentarily motionless.
Raiden and Nejire were the first to snap out of it. Raiden clapped his hands together, summoning a wave of eight shimmering stars that shot toward the villain with blinding speed. On the other side, Nejire unleashed two spiraling energy waves, their arcs converging on the enemy.
Simultaneously, Tamaki sprang into action, launching his tentacles in a coordinated strike. At the same time, Mirio surfed over Tamaki's attack, using his quirk to phase through obstacles as he hurtled directly toward the shadowed figure.
The villain, seeing the coordinated assault, steeled himself and let out a sharp whistle. Shadows surged upward, forming a defensive wall in an instant. Raiden's attack struck first, erupting into a cascade of explosions that shattered the initial barrier. The impact cleared the way for Nejire's spiraling waves, but the whip lashed out defensively, absorbing most of her energy attack. However, her assault weakened the whip just enough for Tamaki's tentacles to break through, slamming into the villain's chest with force.
The assault didn't stop there. Using Tamaki's tentacles as a springboard, Mirio vaulted into the air, landing a flurry of precise strikes on the villain. His quirk allowed him to phase through retaliatory attacks, leaving the villain increasingly battered and vulnerable. The shadow whip, though fierce, proved ineffective against Mirio's fluid movements, allowing him to deliver relentless blows.
Meanwhile, Raiden and Nejire closed in for close combat. The whip, now embedded in the villain's shoulder, writhed as if alive, suddenly splitting into six smaller tendrils. The rapid movement caught Raiden off guard, but he quickly sidestepped the initial strike. Nejire, too, narrowly avoided the lashing tendrils, the unpredictable movement momentarily throwing them off balance.
Recovering quickly, the two counterattacked. Nejire summoned her energy waves, wrapping them around her body to form an armor-like shield—a defensive technique she had once used against Raiden in training. At the same time, Raiden delivered two powerful Mega Punches, each strike dissipating sections of the shadowy tendrils. He followed up with a Confusion attack, the psychic energy destabilizing the remaining fragments of the whip.
Though the fight was far from over, the villain's movements were slowing, his injuries and the relentless assault beginning to take their toll.
Finally, Tamaki, with his fists transformed into hardened, jagged seashells, joined Mirio in delivering relentless blows to the villain. Each strike landed squarely on the man's face, the combined force of their attacks overwhelming any attempt at resistance.
After a tense moment, the shadows that had once writhed menacingly around them dissipated entirely, fading into nothingness. The villain crumpled backward, falling onto the ground with a resounding thud, his true appearance now fully revealed. He was pale, gaunt, and utterly defeated, his once-intimidating aura replaced by vulnerability.
The group cautiously approached to ensure he was truly unconscious. As they confirmed his state, blood began to seep heavily from the grievous wound on his shoulder. The sight was jarring—an alarming amount of crimson pooling around him. It became immediately clear that without intervention, the man would succumb to his injuries.
Despite everything he had done, allowing him to die was not an option. As aspiring heroes, they knew the ramifications of such an outcome could jeopardize their futures. No matter how justified their actions had been, letting a defeated enemy perish was against everything they stood for.
Reacting swiftly, Raiden rushed forward and placed his hand firmly above the gaping wound. Summoning his healing ability, Life Dew, he channeled a faint, luminous liquid that seeped from his palm and spread over the injury. The fluid worked with remarkable speed, knitting together torn flesh and halting the bleeding.
The first attempt wasn't enough, so Raiden repeated the process twice more, each time pouring more energy into the effort. By the end, the wound was fully closed, leaving only faint traces of the battle etched into the man's skin.
Exhausted but satisfied, Raiden stood up and turned to rejoin his classmates. However, before he could take a step, an unexpected jolt of pain shot through him. He looked down to see a hand—calloused and weak but still gripping with surprising force—wrapped tightly around his ankle. The unconscious man had instinctively lashed out, clutching at him in a final, desperate motion.
Startled, Raiden instinctively pulled his leg free, the sharp motion leaving a shallow cut on his ankle where the villain's nails had grazed him. Ignoring the sting, he quickly crouched to heal the minor wound with the same glowing energy, ensuring it wouldn't hinder him further.
Returning to his classmates, who sat slumped nearby, Raiden finally allowed himself to rest. Though still alert, the group's collective exhaustion was evident. Without a word, Raiden lowered himself to the ground beside them, sharing in the brief reprieve they had earned.

On the opposite side of the simulated city, a short, stout man let out a weary sigh. His quirk had allowed him to hack into every system in the area, granting him a front-row seat to the unfolding chaos. Through the countless screens around him, he watched as the students turned the tide and emerged victorious in their battle.
"Ah, they really should've sent more people. Still, at least the mission was accomplished," he muttered to himself, his tone tinged with mild annoyance.
His gaze shifted to his side, where a shadowy tendril flickered erratically. From its surface, droplets of blood hovered momentarily before floating upward, suspended unnaturally in the air.
With practiced efficiency, the man carefully collected the blood into a small vial, sealing it tightly before slipping it into the inner pocket of his jacket. The faint clink of glass against fabric was the only sound in the otherwise silent room.
As he turned back to his monitors, he noticed an uptick in resistance within the school's systems. Someone on the other side was struggling fiercely to regain control, their efforts more intense and coordinated than before.
"Well, it seems the school's heroes have finally realized this is more than just a glitchy system," he remarked with a sigh. His voice carried a mix of amusement and disdain as he pulled a small, sleek device from his chest pocket. Without hesitation, he pressed the button at its center.
Five seconds later, the ground beneath him began to fracture, glowing with an ominous, fiery intensity as it consumed everything within reach. Tendrils of flame and shadow intertwined, clawing upward and scorching the surrounding area.
Suddenly, countless disembodied hands emerged from the cracked earth, their movements eerily synchronized. They reached for him with purpose, grabbing both his stout frame and the tentacle still writhing by his side.
"I hate this method of transportation," the man grumbled, his voice dripping with irritation as the hands tightened their grip. Without further delay, they dragged him downward into the fiery abyss, shadows and flames swallowing him whole.
The entire sequence of events—from the start of the fight to the man's disappearance—unfolded in less than seven minutes.
When the teachers arrived at the escene, they didn't found anything, the most suspicious place was the one building in Wich the small fat man, sat and was dragged by the hands.
There, the heroes from the school found black marks on the ground, similar to a burn above the floor.
They immediately associate the situation with the report made by the pro hero hawks a while ago, the situation was the same, when a villain escaped from his hands, being the number 1 hero school in Japan, they naturally knew about this situation due that involved one of their student's, Raiden.
So the next clue they had was the villain that the students captured, and the footage that the powerloader was working tiredly to recover from the archives, however, he didn't let the hopes of none high, saying that whatever did this was almost like he fused with the technology, and if he wanted to make sure that something like this never happened again, they could have to modify the whole U.A security system, including analogyc technology as a backup and, increasing the already advanced digital security.
Raiden and the kids were interrogated, not because they were responsible of anything, but to look for information, when the teachers learned about the situation they suspected that they were behind Raiden for some reason, and now after the relate they were sure, and more worrying than that, they know knew.
Raiden and Tamaki were the target of an unknown villain organization.
