Meteor Fall Master in the 'Starry Abyss'

Chapter 39: The Times Have Changed

After disconnecting, Oshen said nothing, turned off the cognition filter, and came directly to meet the Lai Anding Immortal Spirit.

Previously, the Immortal Spirit had been calling him, and without needing to think, he knew it was about the players who had encountered disasters in reality.

When He traversed the dimensional membrane and arrived at the feet of Lai Anding, the Immortal Spirit was in the form of a mortal, with short brown hair quietly flowing in the wind, lifting and illuminating stars one by one. Counting carefully, there were exactly 99.

"Lai Anding Immortal Spirit..."

"Today, I lost 99 children."

Lai Anding knelt on the ground, hands gently turning, the Power of Redemption weaving and traveling, lifting these 99 stars into the boundless deep sky.

"The children who were breached by the medical pact, even those in the best condition, only held on for four hours before collapsing. Those with the worst luck, they were even secreted away, and everything about their names and existence in this world was erased."

The various stars drifted farther away, gradually out of sight, leaving one to wonder if the mourning they carried was being transmitted to the fallen warriors along with the stars.

"They were all great martyrs."

Lai Anding placed her hands on her knees, gazing at the starry sky for a long time.

"I'm not a deity proficient in combat. As the Sovereign of [Redemption], I have no ability to log into the front lines to fight. Even cannon fodder deities like Leoz are more useful than I am. Instead, I've been in the rear healing, resurrecting, and nurturing warriors to resist the damage from the Destroyers."

After a while, she finally said:

"At the end of the War Beyond the Abyss, I received many pained Spiritual Warriors, whose wounds could not heal, and whose souls were directly pierced, clearly suffering some fundamental damage, which means their 'continuous information sequence' was directly shattered."

"This is the work of [Society]."

Oshen said:

"After [Society] appeared on the battlefield, they caused serious damage to our living forces, especially the [Secret Society], [Outer Society], and [High Court Society]. The joint pincer assault by these three giants directly led to our Dominating Universe being pushed back, ultimately getting trapped on Haines."

"If the Starry Abyss hadn't timely halted the War Beyond the Abyss and recovered a large amount of power and remnants, it would be difficult—no, almost impossible for us to execute the 'Descender' strategy now. Of course, Leoz's desperate resistance bought us a lot of time... Despite resulting in Morphederia's martyrdom, the large investment previously made in Morphederia fell into the hands of the [Secret Society]."

Lai Anding calmly narrated:

"However, compared to [Society], the Six-Layered Starry Abyss has now begun to exhibit various fragmentations, independent consciousnesses have started to appear. Among the Six Great Abysses, besides the Primordial Abyss we are entrusted with, the other five abyssal layers are gradually embracing their own 'narratives', to some extent even supporting the rise of civilization, writing a Grand Narrative."

"The Void directly occupies an entire layer of the Starry Abyss. From that point on, our Starry Abyss has completely lost control over Zhou Yuan."

"Now, if we want to sever the connection between the layers of the Starry Abyss and the narratives, we must send military forces, export civilians, production departments, economic markets, cultural highlands—and these are extremely difficult for us, the Starry Abyss, or rather, the Primordial Abyss."

"Because our actual citizens, namely the Starry Abyss Divine Race, have already suffered heavy casualties in the War Beyond the Abyss."

Oshen said:

"The current Primordial Abyss has actually been forced to narrativize. We've essentially established a Grand Narrative with the Starry Abyss Divine Race as the main body, intending to unify the Six-Layered Starry Abyss and expel [Society] and the Destroyers."

"Since the narratives obtained the pathways, numerous Pathway Ascenders to Divinity began forming various groups of deities and even Chief Gods. With the foundation of a massive number of Acquired God Spirits, the narratives have started to harbor ambitions of independence, regardless of how strong they become, their final goal is to lead their starry abyss away from the Six Great Abysses."

Lai Anding said:

"Whether we want to admit it or not, the current Six Great Abysses system has collapsed, resembling a lateImperial stage riddled with warlord nobles and fragmentation."

"From then on, we've been committed to developing a strategy to prevent massive casualties on the Starry Abyss Side, while securely and secretly deploying our Spiritual Warriors into each of the starry abysses. By using them, we aim to regain control over the Narrative Civilization and the Starry Abyss, strengthening the influence of the Primordial Abyss on the Five Great Abysses through stabilizing garrisons."

"The War Beyond the Abyss depleted our Chief Gods, and I have lost the capability to nurture new deities, with the materials needed for creating deities almost exhausted. Xides is the deity I crafted from the remaining materials and energy."

"For this reason, I chose to cooperate with [Players], allowing our Spiritual Warriors to infiltrate the various starry abysses through the form of descension."

At this point, Oshen felt a tightness in his chest, realizing what the other meant.

"After saying so much, it all boils down to one thing—We cannot afford to lose any more lives."

Lai Anding did not turn back, his tone calm and gentle, yet to Oshen's ears, it was like a star pressing down on his spine, prompting him to kneel on one knee, overwhelmed by a heavy power.

"Uh... I will not fail again."

"Next time there's danger with the senators, have the majority retreat."

"But Immortal Spirit, if the warriors fear battle and retreat, can they still be called warriors? Without the trial of powerful enemies, those Spiritual Warriors with filters simply cannot grow..."

"Once, the Starry Abyss needed you to die; now, the Starry Abyss needs you to live."

Lai Anding coldly stated:

"Leoz's defeat apparently granted Gaia of the [Secret Society] a new mandate. Even the 'Lai Anding Medical Protocol' devised by myself and [Player] Plyer will be forcibly breached, its power has grown too strong, we can no longer let the Spiritual Warriors die in vain."

She raised her hand, her five fingers gently forming a fist.

Even though her movements were light, Oshen still felt an almost destructive strength—a status from the true Starry Abyss Main God, which could not be erased even if she transferred most of her strength to maintain the medical protocol.

The Chief God is the Chief God.

A sense of despair involuntarily arose in Oshen's heart—he instinctively recalled Leoz from before.

In the Starry Abyss Side, hierarchy is everything.

Even though that cannon fodder deity was neither just nor righteous, loyal nor filial, once Leoz usurped the power and became the Executer, he essentially took on the status of the Starry Abyss Main God.

Even though Oshen was confident he could confront Leoz head-on, under the pressure of that status, he couldn't muster even the slightest desire to fight.

Fortunately, Liane was gentle by nature and didn't continue to make things difficult for Oshen; she soon withdrew the pressure.

"At our current stage, we cannot guarantee how many Spiritual Warriors will still be willing to fight after removing the Cognition Filter. We also cannot create new cannon fodder deities anymore—and to complete the 'recolonization' of the major Starry Abysses, we need players with seven emotions and six desires, rich in sensitivity, rather than machines that only know how to kill."

—This is why Descenders need to be fitted with filters.

The Starry Abyss Divine Race wants nothing; besides honor, is there anything else they desire? There might be, but certainly not much.

But to disguise and integrate into the major Starry Abysses, to deconstruct the Narrative Civilization respectively, the humanity and desires cultivated in the Cognition Filter are indispensable.

Such a grand plan can only be led by the Primordial Abyss.

Yet, during actual execution, a multitude of problems still emerged.

Liane's attitude was clear: the current strategic objective has changed, the Starry Abyss once controlled the Abyssal Outer Universe, and the Six Great Main Gods could continue nurturing the Divine Clan.

But now it's no longer possible. The [Secret Society] Gaia can even penetrate the medical protocol, so who can say that other [Societies] haven't evolved as well?

Previously, after repelling the [Mechanical World Society], the medical protocol could at least ensure the lives of the Spiritual Warriors, merely requiring them to descend anew.

Now, the Spiritual Warriors had to fight the enhanced secret with the Cognition Filter on.

There are few like Oshen, absolutely loyal and capable; the Starry Abyss needs to review bit by bit to gradually lift the restrictions on him.

The current situation is that the Starry Abyss Divine Race has retreated to the Primordial Abyss, each Narrative harbors ulterior motives, unity is broken, trust in the God Embracers or deities emerging from Narrative Civilization is no longer possible.

After all, the [Societies] at most inflict damage on civilization, while Narratives wish to completely break free from the control of the Primordial Abyss.

Oshen quickly figured it out.

The times have truly changed.

In the past, the Starry Abyss used cannon fodder deities liberally because the material for deities was cheaper than the war line. Being attacked by the Destroyer all the way to the Starry Abyss spelt absolute doom.

Now, they can't even produce cannon fodder deities, and the harm currently posed by [Societies] seems to be mostly shared by the major Narratives.

"... This battle was my mistake."

Oshen said:

"From now on, when high-risk targets like Senators and the Speaker appear, I will handle them personally."

"Oshen, you must understand, the reason we woke you up was precisely for you to do this."

Liane placed her hands on her knees, calmly saying:

"I have already had [players] implant a new program in you. Once a Senator from the secret or Outer Realm is detected, other players around you will be forcibly disconnected, and as for you, whether you challenge them or leave by chance, you decide."

Liane Immortal Spirit's words were actually very tactfully spoken.

Though there are billions of Spiritual Warriors, not a single one dares to die now. Even the most ordinary Spiritual Warrior, so long as they continue operating in the Starry Abyss, engaging in the competition with Pathway Ascenders to Divinity from Narrative Civilization, they are playing a crucial role.

Ordinary players, able to participate in competition, are like sparrows occupying magpie nests. Nominally, they can join any Narrative, but it's all achieved through 'conscripted bodies.'

In reality, they are warriors of the Starry Abyss.

Whether it's reducing the number of deities in Narrative Civilization or increasing its reliance on these 'Undead,' this slow-boiling frog strategy is the best resistance against Narrative independence.

The past era of military action in which every inch of the Starry Abyss was paid in blood has eventually turned into a long-term strategy centered around pathway competition.

Oshen lowered his head:

"I humbly accept your guidance, Your Excellency the Fairy Spirit."
