Side Story 01: Invention Of The Web
A man sat in a cramped college dorm, revising the project he was working on. He had been working on some months now, and he knew that it would be huge if he managed to realize it.
The project was simple; he would need a main server, and he would need to connect some other servers around the world to this main server with cables. He supposed that already existing telephone cables could be used for this, and with the aid of programming, they would reach a new age in information transportation.
He even had a name for it, "World Wide Web," he called it. A web that connects the whole world, not caring about boundaries and ideologies. A second world where all information was in plain sight.
He was not a naive guy. He knew it wouldn't be that simple. He knew that this web would be the source of both the bad and the good, but he couldn't stop his excitement. His web would one day cause something he could only dream of now. And he did dream.
The cultures around the world mix, and as generations grew up with more and more access to instant information, they would start forming a whole. People wouldn't realize the impact, but his purpose would be understood in the years to come, he felt.
The man hoped that it would cause the much-earned peace one day. After all, he was a kid who grew up with war like all of his generation. He picked up the newspaper on the table to check what had happened today.
A treaty was signed a couple of days ago, and this would be the day that Humanity would learn how to create Etherium. As a curious person himself, he, of course, wanted to know why this material would be so important. He read the headline.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Etherans' Parting Gift, Grand Victory Of The Federation.
He smiled seeing the propaganda. In his world, people would immediately learn that Etherans were just pulling back because they wanted to conserve resources. It was not a grand victory by any means. It was just that Zephyr didn't have anything they saw worth taking. He, though, was a bit confused why they left them something like a gift. He kept reading.
As Etheran spaceships leave the star system, throughout Zephyr, labs are working on the material they gave humanity as compensation for their transgressions.
Etherium is a difficult material to manufacture, and the method of manufacturing it is currently classified by the federation until the material is completely understood.
The first information released by the labs is something we find unbelievable, and if it's true, we believe that we will be facing a new scientific revolution. According to the information we are allowed to share, we can say that it was discovered by the labs that Etherium had telepathic properties.
While the method is still classified, authorities confirmed that, using this element, seamless telepathy is theoretically possible.
Isn't that unbelievable, dear readers around the world?
This… The man kept staring at the newspaper, his mind working with an excitement he hadn't felt for a long time. He would need more information on this, that was for sure. But he was starting to think about a very hopeful possibility.
Maybe, just maybe, it would actually be that simple. Maybe his world was not that far away.
