Merchant Of Yliaster

Chapter 98: Curiosity

Skill Created: Everchanging Soul Constructs*

Maxwell once again felt a foreign energy flowing inside his body as the skill readjusted itself. Details of the new skill flowed into his mind, and it was noticeably more complex than the former one. Maxwell summoned the new descriptions.

Magic Savant:

Magic comes naturally to your unnatural mind, as it twists and turns against the complexity it faces. What others find incomprehensible, you find logical.

May your journey through the unknowns of magic be fruitful.

Everchanging Soul Constructs*:

Mana and energy obey the guider, and constructs defying the natural laws are formed. The constructs can have a rudimentary soul, and if the guide has enough understanding, they can form real matter.

The rudimentary soul inside can use the ambient mana to constantly repair or amplify itself according to the user's desires. The rudimentary soul can be commanded to do simple tasks.

Even when the constructs are broken, as long as the soul survives, they can reform themselves without the guider's input.

How is this just tier 2? Maxwell questioned. The skill looked like a skill one could easily call their main one. Magic Savant, on the other hand, was flattering, but Maxwell ignored it for now. He was happy that he managed to make his skill truly powerful, but he had some questions.

With a thought, a sword made of fire was summoned, having a physical shape despite being made out of flames. Maxwell grabbed the hilt after infusing his hand with fire mana and gave the sword a couple of swings.

With another thought, the sword was infused with a rudimentary soul, a green light once more tinting the flames, but the process was smoother compared to before. Skill improvement was an interesting experience, as Maxwell was pretty sure that there was nothing too different about the skill compared to before.

What made the process so smooth was the information system provided with the skill advancement. When skills were acquired for the first time, and when he readjusted or upgraded them, the system gave him a packet of information about how he could use the skill better.

The quality of the transfer was so good that Maxwell had nothing to complain about despite having years' worth of telepathy experience. Since level 1, he felt like he had practiced the skills he received diligently, even when he used them for the first time.

I wonder what people did before the system was a thing? Maxwell thought curiously. He wasn't even sure if such a time existed, but it was an interesting topic to think about. With how things are now, the system was the ultimate teacher for one willing to learn.

Maxwell summoned the other notifications he had been ignoring.

Soul Imbuement Leveled Up 24→32

Soul Over Matter Leveled Up 12→13

Elementary Soul Energy Manipulation Leveled Up 70-->73

Exceptional Feat Performed. Experience rewarded.

Now that he was done with the constructs, Maxwell summoned the skill selection.

Skill selection initiated. Displaying Options.

Monster Kin*

You are deemed inhuman by even the most bizarre of creatures. Shed your human self and embrace a different path of evolution.

Pass. Maxwell didn't have many hard opinions, but being human was something he would never give up. No species had the same control over the world as humans did in Zephyr, and he would not easily let go of a race like that.

Other races could be stronger or more durable, some could even have otherworldly powers, but unless this other race was something similar to humans, Maxwell had no reason to change his race. Human adaptability and intelligence were just something else, and he had a class based around the mind anyway.

Weight of Thy Vision*:

You see the world in many shapes and forms, and your unnatural mind processes what you see at speeds that are incomparable to those of other people on your level.

Let them see what you see, and get crushed under the nakedness of the true reality.

Maxwell was immediately tempted by this skill, but he felt that this was already something he could do. He could definitely send a memory of his perception to other people. He was not sure how to block them from ignoring the memory, but this was probably the part this skill would fix for him.

In the end, the skill was pretty much in his grasp if he spent some time experimenting. There was no need to pick it out of the selection.

Martial Resonation*:

Guider moves, and mana follows, punishing whoever dares to get close to him.

You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.

So I can become a proper martial artist. Maxwell thought. The skill was amazing, but it was a bit unnecessary. When he was fighting in close quarters, he usually had more than enough mental capacity to command the mana himself.

On the other hand, though, he was curious how the skill controlled the mana around him. Sometimes he really wanted all of these skills.

Carver Of Memories*:

You used magic to carve objects, now you widen your horizons as you carve people's minds, depriving them of their memories.

This skill makes me look so fucking bad, Despite the accusatory tone of the explanation, Maxwell was tempted by this skill, but he was pretty sure he could create a tier 1 version himself if he tried. Still, this skill was a viable option, as it promised much more detailed control over the mind compared to his method.

Drakhabgar's Visage*(Unique Skill):

Leave your body to the Vestige of Drakhabgar, and let him deal with your enemies in your place.

Oh, here is the godly skill. Maxwell thought sarcastically. In every selection, there was a skill about the gods. Maxwell really hoped that the last skill would be better than the others, as there was nothing groundbreaking like before until now. He didn't even consider this skill, as it looked like a good way to lose his body to Drakhabgar.

He checked the next skill and was surprised to see that it was just a tier one.

The Guider's Cookbook(Unique Skill):

The Compendium records the world, yet it cannot record what you create. Let your creations be recorded in the Guider's Cookbook and resummoned with a mere thought when you need them.

A set skill? And how are these just tier one? Maxwell had many questions, but the two most prominent ones were these. Both The Compendium and Guider's Cookbook had no right to be just tier one.

The sheer existence of this skill looked like an informal apology from the system, as this skill would be utterly useless for anyone else. The system, after all, essentially did everything this skill promised to do.

Whenever someone did something worthy, the system recorded it as a skill and helped them cast it automatically like a video game. At least, Maxwell thought that's how it was, as people seemed to have more specific skills compared to him. Darve, who couldn't even properly feel mana, had a skill for making wind blades for example, and he was pretty decent in using them too.

Maxwell never had a skill like "Wind Blade" as the system seemed to be unable to assist him when it came to skills like that. This skill would change that fact, as Maxwell would have something like the compendium to record his skills, removing his need for the system's help in the first place.

The skill was just too good to pass up, as it crushed all competition. Maxwell could imagine it fusing with the compendium, so it made even more sense to pick it. One of them recorded the ingredients for the skills, and one of them recorded the skills themselves.

He picked the skill, and immediately dived into his soul space. He figured that the skill would create something similar to the compendium, and this time, he wanted to witness its creation.

Immediately, he could feel some mana trying to pierce into his soul, but he was surprised to feel that they were blocked by the flowing walls of his soul space. Did they get stronger? He thought, looking at the walls.

This actually explained a lot of the system's dilemma. With a mental push, Maxwell tried to command the walls around his soul to let the mana in, and he was successful without any problems. The mana started to trickle in slowly, and Maxwell's eyes widened, seeing the phenomenon.

Millions upon millions of particles flowed in, but this was not the reason Maxwell was surprised. What was shocking was simple. From what Maxwell could feel, every single particle in the air was infused with directions.

Maxwell could feel no outside influence on the particles, but they still moved in complex patterns and formed a vortex of mana beside the compendium. Just how much power do you need to do this? Maxwell questioned. To do something like this, Maxwell would need to divide his mind into almost a billion parts and control the specific mana particles with every part. It was simply impossible looking at it from his perspective, yet it was done by the system effortlessly.

He figured this was not the usual way it operated, but Etherium Soul caused it to work in such a complicated way. Even the usual pain at seeing how the system was working was gone, as its influence seemed awfully limited inside his soul.

Slowly, an altar similar to Compendium's formed beside it. Maxwell could see that the altar was made of the physical types of mana, while the book that started to form slowly had no dominant mana type.

Slowly, a book not so different from The Compendium formed on a pedestal, Maxwell watching it mesmerized. The detail of the work was immense, and this made Maxwell question the system even more. There was no way this was just a tier one skill, yet it still catalogued it like that.

Soon, the book finished forming. Maxwell was a bit disappointed to see it look exactly the same as the compendium, though. He figured there was something different about it, but he couldn't see what it was with his level right now.

He touched the book, trying to open it, but he was suddenly blinded by a green explosion of light. He had no real eyes in his soul space, yet his eyes still got blinded by the sudden explosion. "Fuck," he grumbled, rubbing his eyes.

When he could finally see, he was startled by the new appearance of the book. While it still looked roughly the same, a green light flowed inside the mana particles. It was the same light his soul was made of, and it gave the book a real feeling despite being completely made out of mana particles.

He tried once more and managed to lift the cover this time. Similar to the compendium, the cover was really big, like a medieval record book. Noiselessly, the first page unveiled itself before him, and he was surprised to see that it was not completely empty.

At the top of the page, there was a single word. And it was in no language Maxwell knew. Still, he found himself able to read it. It was a simple and mundane word, yet Maxwell's soul shuddered as he read it.

Curiosity

His eyes fixated on the word, as his soul kept shuddering like it was trying to contain something. A pain assaulted his mind, yet he didn't even realize it. His thoughts became cloudy, similar to an episode of confusion.

Suddenly, though a feeling similar to vibration radiated from his soul's depths, the flowing walls vibrated, and they stopped moving. His pain and his confusion subsided, and he took a deep breath.

What was that? Maxwell was confused. The feeling he received from the word was different to anything he ever felt. Even the language it was written in felt like he knew it from birth. He could still feel the feeling faintly, waiting for the right time to resurface. He summoned his notifications to see what the hell was going on.

The hidden title "???" is being revealed.

Title reveal is postponed.

Oh, I had something like that. Maxwell remembered. He had been ignoring the unknown title he had since the first tier advancement, as he figured it was hidden due to it being something the system felt was secretive about, but it seemed like it was not as simple as that. The last notification was green, indicating that it was connected to his Etherium Soul. He summoned the skill description. Maybe that would make him understand something.
