Merchant Of Yliaster

Chapter 52: Good Titles, Rude Titles

Soon, Maxwel was back on his way to the inn. About two hours passed since he found the place, and many things also changed. Maxwell summoned his notifications as he walked.

Guide Mana Leveled Up 85→86

Prima Sense Leveled up 75→80

Magic Theory Leveled Up 74→78

Soul's Voice Leveled Up 71→75

Mana Infusion Leveled Up 68→74

Elementary Soul Energy Manipulation Leveled Up 17→22

Mind Of The Merchant Leveled Up 1→2

Occult Knowledge Leveled Up 11→15

The level-ups looked relatively normal compared to the previous times, but they contained a couple of important facts.

Firstly, his skills were getting really close to the 100-level mark, meaning that as long as something didn't readjust, he would have his first skill advancement soon.

Secondly, the improvement in elementary soul energy manipulation proved his theory about the skill. The skill was used when he was manipulating all kinds of energy, and this time, leveling was due to the amount of negative energy he manipulated when he was infusing vitality to the couple.

Skill "Telekinesis" Acquired.

Telekinesis: As a proficient user of mental energy, you can exert force just by using your mind.

The skill was pretty simple, and Maxwell knew he could get it any time he wanted before. As it was, Maxwell doubted that it would become more than a utility skill, but maybe he could elevate it to something more in the future.

Title Acquired: Unholy Experimenter

Unholy Experimenter: You inflicted to someone so much pain as you experimented on them, that their soul was tainted. Don't forget that some sights are hard to forget.

Title Acquired: Bestower of Life

Bestower of Life: Through your trait, you created life as if you were not a mortal yourself.

Title: Pioneer

Pioneer: You created a form of life never seen before in your universe. You pave the way. Hopefully, no one will follow.

That last one is just rude. Maxwell thought as he contemplated the new titles. This time, the titles really aligned with his personality, even though the name of the first one was a bit off. He hoped it wouldn't cause the choices he got in the future to tilt in a disturbing direction. The sacrifice skill he got before was already bad enough.

With the titles, Maxwell expected the notifications to end, but to his surprise, there was one more.

Extraordinary feat performed, Experience is rewarded.

Level Up, Stats Distributed (2x)

So, I too can get levels by doing things as long as they are unlikely enough. He thought in surprise. In the grand scheme of things, this didn't change much, as doing this consistently would ultimately be harder than killing beasts. It was still a great bonus, though. He quickly dumped the new points into soul, not really considering any other options. His level reached 28, making him even more overleveled compared to the world. It would do some good to hone his skills beyond their levels, though, he felt.

He simply didn't have a movement skill, and apart from athletics, he didn't have anything related to using his body better. If he reached level 50 like this, his options would probably be a bit lacking. Who am I kidding? he asked himself. His options would definitely still be amazing due to his insane stats and skills, but he was being greedy. He summoned his status to see his last state.

Since the last time he checked his status, there was a great increase in the number of his non-combat-oriented skills.

He gained a couple of levels in physics and chemistry while trying to use them like math with a separate mind, but he didn't have much knowledge of them to base the practice. If he wanted to increase them in such a way, he would first need to learn them a little.

The only new class skill was telekinesis, but the levels of most of the skills in that category were approaching a dangerous level. Maxwell really couldn't think of a way to readjust them, though. Guiding all types of mana, for example, was already a pretty broad subject.

As he was busy with his status, he reached the inn. As if they had arranged it before, Blueberry also arrived a few seconds later, landing on Maxwell's shoulder before looking at the girl.

Maxwell was surprised to see Blueberry also check the toy bear suspiciously. His senses could detect the anomaly of the bear, but he could see that he was actually concealed pretty well, looking like a normal bear. Even when observed with observation skill, the result was still a regular teddy bear.

Blueberry stared at the bear for a couple of seconds before turning towards Maxwell, throwing him a questioning glance. Maxwell really couldn't understand how the bird managed to do expressions with her avian face.

"Chirp?" She chirped, making Maxwell look at the bird exasperatedly as he received the mental message.

"No, she is not a new pet," he sent mentally, as there were too many people around.

"Chirp?" The bird asked, sounding hopeful.

"No, the bear is not a pet, either," He sent, looking at Pax. In his prima sense, the bear shone with a red light, signifying the negative energy, but his soul was almost completely invisible.

"How did you know he was alive?" He asked Blueberry curiously. The bird didn't reply out loud this time, instead, she sent him a weird feeling he couldn't make head or tails of for a second.

"You feel like you can dive into it?" He asked, unsure that he got it right. It was a ridiculous way to pierce the creature's invisibility.

"Chirp!" The bird chirped proudly, giving him an affirmative response.

They entered the inn, drawing a few suspicious glances as Maxwell was carrying a small girl in his arms, but people seemed to just observe instead of saying anything for the moment.

"Did you find Gendor?" he asked Blueberry, and she sent him a mental equivalent of "What do you take me for? " Immediately after, Maxwell received a memory from the bird, and he was once again flying in the air.

Since the last time, the bird's senses have changed drastically. It was to a degree that Maxwell's mind strained as it tried to fill the spaces caused by the senses he didn't have. Apparently, the bird could see through matter as long as it didn't have a mind, but she also saw the matter she was seeing through at the same time. To the unaccustomed mind, it made an overwhelming experience.

Maxwell watched the memory as the bird flew, and he once again envied the bird's ability to fly. Maybe he could create wings with myriad constructs? That was a food for thought. As he contemplated how he could fly, the bird was busy tediously scanning through hundreds of people as she searched for Gendor and Bob.

Not too long after, she was successful, as at the periphery of her senses, she sensed Bob's mind.

She turned towards the kid, flying in his direction with an increased speed, and made Maxwell scream mentally as she dove down and passed through several walls at high speed.

Soon, the boy was in front of them, as he was carrying a giant box filled with great many things. Maxwell could feel Blueberry's surprise as she saw Gendor standing near the kid. The man didn't release any mental waves, making him invisible to her senses.

Considering the fact that the man was an assassin, this made sense, but it was still impressive. Maxwell could see that the man still counted as something Blueberry couldn't see through though, clearly having a mind despite not releasing any waves.

This meant that Blueberry would be able to detect the man when he was in her sight, despite his apparently ridiculous concealment ability.

In the rest of the memory, Blueberry watched Gendor and Bob as they stood in front of a small shop, speaking about something he couldn't hear.

The memory ended there, giving Maxwell a general idea about where the duo was. Considering the giant box Bob was carrying, they were probably trying to find a place to open a shop.

Maxwell doubted that the prices were very low for buildings, as the city was overcrowded due to receiving too much immigration. Somehow, he didn't think that would be a problem for Gendor. He was sure that the man wouldn't hesitate to rob a noble when he had the smallest chance, and he probably already had done that.

He found his room in the inn, and placed the little girl on the bed. The fact that the girl was still sleeping was a bit concerning, as Maxwell intended for her to sleep for only a couple of minutes, but the girl was probably tired.

He doubted that the negative energy absorption could stop bad dreams, even if it made them less painful to remember afterwards. The absorption speed wouldn't be enough, as a few seconds in real life could encompass a great length of time inside a dream, providing many opportunities for the production of negative energy.

He was a bit concerned about leaving the girl by herself in a random inn, but he laughed at himself, remembering the girl had Pax. If even he could forget about the construct, others certainly wouldn't realize something was wrong with it.

He got out of the building, skimming through some people's thoughts to be sure they wouldn't have strange ones. Most of them seemed just curious, and a few in between were a bit concerned for the girl.

It was good to see that some people still had their humanity intact. They were probably right about this place being quite unsuitable for a little girl, though. Maybe he could ask Nesha to give the kid a room in The Nest.

He walked through the streets, Felix running behind him, constantly getting sidetracked as he tried to smell everything imaginable, making Maxwell send mental nudges to the dog almost constantly.

It took sone time due to him, but they eventually reached their destination. Albeit not being as much as The Nest, this place was really close to the inner wall, making Maxwell pretty sure that Gendor robbed someone.

It was pretty easy to find the duo, as they were still standing in the same place as before. Bob was unloading stuff from the giant box, and Gendor was placing them in specific spots, constantly going in and out of the shop. They were still unaware of his presence, and it made him feel a bit like a creep as he watched them silently.

He approached them, moving with the crowd, and when he was really close, he could actually hear them speaking.

"When are we going to the rifts?" The boy was asking, completely unheedful of the sensitivity of the subject, considering that they were in a crowded street.

Gendor just sighed. He had apparently given up a long time ago. "We can try when Maxwell comes. He should come in a couple of days at most, " he said, being quite wrong in his estimation. He himself realized that immediately, as Maxwell chose this moment to join them.

"I find that estimate greatly exaggerated." He said, smiling happily, as he received dumbfounded looks from the duo.
