Mercenary Harem in Murim Novel

Chapter 182 – Mount Hua vs Followers

The Mercenary Union gathered their strength, and the members were ready.

Jack, Astrid, and Shui were leading the team, and the Wandering Sword Saint was following behind. Leo had sent them as an advanced force, and they would begin the operation to distract the enemy.

"Only attack them when you see the chance. And Astrid, join the Outcast Group and keep destroying their communication line. Jack, take care of the assassin. Use the latest equipment and weapons. Remember, we don't have unlimited resources, so make sure every bullet counts. And, Shui, keep the Sword Saint in check."

"Hey, you're saying that in front of me?" Xiao Ah Tian couldn't help but frown, his tone a bit offended.

"Just making sure you know what to do." Leo chuckled, patting his back. "Remember, our goal is to stall and delay the enemy until we gain more intel. I don't know how strong they are and their plan, so we have to be careful. Do you all understand?"

"Yes, sir!"

Everyone nodded and replied with determination. They were ready for anything, except for the Wandering Sword Saint who looked disappointed.

After seeing them off, Leo turned around and looked at Lee Hae-In, the Crazy Bitch, who leaned against the wall.

"Are you sure you don't want to go with them?" He asked, curious about her decision.

Earlier this morning when he finished his plan, he wanted to include Lee Hae-In in the first group to depart to the Capital as backup. But she refused, claiming that she had something to do.

"Yeah. I need to go somewhere first." Lee Hae-In answered, her voice calm. "It's not something important, just some personal issue. And besides, if I'm not wrong, the main force will move soon, right? I'll catch up and join the fight."

Slinging her axe behind her back, she began to walk away.

Leo watched her as she disappeared from his sight. He couldn't help but feel that there was something she didn't want him to know.

"There is no way someone with that kind of expression will just go and have a fun time."

But, he decided not to ask any questions. It was her business, and he had no right to interfere.

'If she wants to tell me, then she will. But from the look of it and the way she looked so focused for the last few days, she probably will return to the wilderness and find her own army to attack the new Murim Alliance. There is nothing that stops barbarians from attacking now that Kang Jian took control of the alliance.'

Right now, many Sects were probably looking for a chance to overthrow the new leader and return to the old way of life. Or they might want to take the throne of the leader by themselves.

In short, the army Murim Alliance gathered before would attack and fight each other. Like a boomerang, the force they gathered would strike them back.

And, it was Leo's chance.

He smiled as he thought about what to do.

"What do you want to do, Sherly?" He spoke to no one in particular, but he knew that the girl was around.

He could feel her presence, just unable to pinpoint where she was.

If he had to compare her to something, then she was like a smoke.

"Personally, I'd like to help. But you know that I won't be useful in any battle, Leader. I'm only good at supporting someone from behind."

Sherly's voice echoed in his ears, and he could feel her breath behind him.

"Stop your trick." Looking back, he saw that there was no one there. "Where are you hiding?"

"Here." She chuckled, appearing next to him. She waved her hand, and the smell of mint filled the air. "And I wear a new perfume. What do you think? Is it too strong?"

"It's not bad."

"Hehe, thank you. So, what are we going to do, Leader? No, what do you want me to do? I don't have any fighting skill, so I can only provide support from behind."

"Stop lying. Your martial arts are unique to the point I would call it magic. Don't tell me you don't have any skill to use your Qi and body. You can easily defeat anyone else with a single punch or kick."

"Eeh, but my hands are so precious. What if I get injured? Won't I be unable to write a novel anymore?" She pouted, her eyes teary. She didn't want to fight, but Leo knew she was ready for it.

"If you don't want to fight directly, then help me with protecting the Emperor. I have some bad feelings about this. Anya is an assassin, she's actually not fit for the protecting job. However, she's the only one I can count on. You surely know the reason why I made this decision, no?"

"Because she's the fastest? I saw her flying toward the Capital as soon as you ordered her. Wow, I don't know that a human can fly. That's amazing."

"It's technology." He replied dryly, "More importantly, I trust you. Please don't disappoint me."

"I won't."

Sherly nodded, her eyes sharp. She was smiling, but Leo could feel the seriousness and determination behind that smile.

He couldn't help but smile back.

"If you feel overwhelmed by the enemy attack, don't forget to retreat and bring Anya with you. No matter what happens, prioritize your safety and don't sacrifice yourself. If you're injured, I'll be angry."

"Hahaha, you're so soft, Leader. I didn't expect that. You always act like a ruthless person, so this is a surprise."

"Oh, shut up. Don't let me change my mind and throw you to the battlefield."

"Ah, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But I won't die easily. I promise."

After saying that, Sherly's body was covered in a golden Qi. She looked like a goddess, her smile bright and her expression confident.

"No matter what happens, I will return alive. Don't worry, Leader. You can count on me."

Leo nodded.

"Yeah. I will trust you."

"Aye aye, Captain!"

Saluting with a grin, the light around her became brighter until Leo was forced to narrow his eyes. Then, instantly, she disappeared like a meteor shooting into the sky.

He didn't see where she was going, but he knew that she was heading to the Capital.

With that finished, he turned around and entered Chengdu city again. There were only three people left in the base. Four including him.

Thinking about that, he couldn't help but feel a little bit lonely. It had only been a few days since he returned from the Capital and enjoyed the lively atmosphere in this place.

He wanted to go out and meet people, but he couldn't.

This was a war, and he needed to stay ready.

So, with a sigh, he went back to the base to monitor the situation. As the leader, he couldn't move as he pleased.

He was the only one who could make the final decision.

"Welcome back, Leader."

Greeting him as soon as he entered the base was Jessica. She was wearing the usual suit while holding a tablet in her hand. She was monitoring the situation in the Capital and the other cities from the floating holograms spread around the room.

Operating them was Chiaki and mini Coco. She made sure that nothing was left from the observation.

"It seems that a battle will begin soon." Chiaki's voice rang as she zoomed into one of the screens.

On it, a group of people wearing black clothes could be seen, their face hidden under their hood and their bodies trembling as they held their weapons.

"Those are the Supreme Evil's Followers." Jessica added, "And from the way they looked, it seems like they're ready for a fight. Their enemy is..."

On the other side of the people dressed in black was a group of people wearing black and red robes. From the petal symbol that became the identity of their Sect embodied on every piece of their outfit, it was clear that they were from the Mount Hua Sect.

They were one of the strongest Sects in the Murim Alliance. Being a taoist Sect, they were pretty dutiful and upheld justice. But now, they stood against the Murim alliance. That just showed how Kang Jian's takeover had affected everyone.

"Hmm, it's Mount Hua Sect." Leo muttered, his eyes focused on the screen. "This battle will be a nice reference for me. Record everything, Chiaki. We'll analyze it later."

"Yes, Leader."

For 5 minutes, no one made a move. That was until the followers of Supreme Evil decided to attack. The black robed men dashed forward, their swords and daggers aimed toward the Mount Hua's disciples.

It was a chaotic battle, and Leo could see many people being killed and wounded.

In a way, the battle was pretty one-sided because of a matter of compatibility.

The Mount Hua Sect was famous for its Qi and sword techniques, and they were pretty much a pure energy-type. But the Supreme Evil Followers were... pretty sneaky and brutal. They used their comrades' corpses for shields and ambushed the taoist Sect.

Their fighting style was messy and cruel, and it was clear that they had no honor in fighting.

However, it was efficient. And this became the reason why the Evil Sect was usually feared even though they were more often than not weaker than Orthodox Sect.

"Their fighting style resembles a wild beast." Jessica commented, her eyes dark. "They have no honor and just do whatever they want."

"You have a point." Leo nodded, his expression serious. "This is why the righteous Sect often lost in a battle even though they are stronger. The Mount Hua army could just use their technique and kill them, but because they have the morality and honor, they couldn't attack. On the other hand, the Supreme Evil's Followers don't care about that. They just use whatever they can and do whatever they want."

"After all they are just toys." Chiaki chimed in, "And toys have no feeling. They will just do what they were ordered to do."

That was true.

The Supreme Evil's Followers were modified by the Head and were given an order to destroy the world and kill everyone.

However...

"That also makes them weak." The scientist in Hallowed Insect grinned, "If we were to compare the modification they received and the power they can use, they are nothing but a bunch of rats. Look, Leader."

On the screen, a follower of Supreme Evil was fighting a taoist disciple. But the result was clear.

The follower was stabbed in the chest and fell on the ground, bleeding to death.

"Their body can't handle the power they receive, making them so fragile that even 3 Stars martial artists could defeat them. What's the use of explosive power if the vessel is weak?"

"Hmm, that's a valid point."

Leo had to agree.

So far, Chiaki's research showed that while the follower had an explosive power, their body was weak and couldn't handle the power. They were more like a walking bomb than a human.

Unlike a carefully nurtured subject, they were like wild animals that were stitched together only using their best part without giving them any time to recover the stitch wound. As a result, just a simple punch could break them apart.

But, once again, that made them easier to control and manipulate.

"This is why I love metal toys." Chiaki murmured as she kept her eyes on the screen.

Coco and mini-Cocos trembled slightly, seeming happy that their creator preferred them than the ugly and disgusting toys they saw on the screen.

Shrugging, Leo sat down and began observing the battle.
