Memory Reaper's Ascension

Chapter 125: Doctor in an Apocalypse

The demon didn't ran, it simply vanished into thin air. All Ishiki could see was the displaced air where it stood just moments ago.

Ishiki gritted his teeth and ran sideways... he knew that he wouldn't be out of danger by doing so, but he had to try.

WOOSH!

Just as he expected... the demon suddenly appeared besides him, just at the same time a very strong gust of wind followed with him.

The demon flew along with Ishiki and threw a punch aimed directly at his face... but the fist struck nothing but a wall that had appeared between them.

On the other side of the wall, Ishiki ducked low... the demon's fist broke through the wall and hit nothing as it went by over his head.

'Now...'

Without standing up, Ishiki used his legs and threw his body backwards, his body came out from behind the wall... he was holding a particularly large rock piece in his hand.

He threw it with every ounce of strength in his hand... the demon caught it mid way with a single hand and then crushed it into thousand small particles of dust.

By the time he looked back down... the boy was gone. The demon looked around, seemingly lost. The had been just there moments and now he was nowhere to be found.

All he could see, were the two girls dodging the frenzied Xenon he had created.

Kaori pushed Nina to the other side and jumped to the opposite. The Xenon's fist collided with the cobblestone creating a small crater.

GROWLLLL!

The Xenon growled out of utter madness as the demonic blood slowly ate all his sanity... the human inside had long since stopped existing and what remained was nothing but a piece of flesh attacking anything in site.

Kaori moved back as soon as her legs touched the ground, she had already summoned her sword and it had slowly manifested into reality.

Her body was exhausted, wrung out and weak under the cool glow of the Silver moon. But she didn't pay them much attention and launched forward anyway.

She was a doctor... had been actually, she was no more someone who saved others life. Her life itself had taken a cruel turn making her kill and kill and kill if she wanted to live another day.

By no means was she a warrioress, neither had she ever learned how to wield a sword. Just like those surrounding her, she learned it under the cruel premise of life and death.

There was no better teacher than the fear of death, that's why... she pushed herself because muscle memory didn't require divine favor.

Her blade flashed once, a horizontal cut aimed at the Xenon's exposed thigh.

Shing.

The steel bit deep, parting green flesh with a sound like tearing canvas. Arterial spray erupted from the wound, but it was not red, but green fetid sludge.

The Xenon roared, however mindless it was still able to feel pain it seemed.

'That mean's he is still human... the appearance doesn't matter.' Kaori thought as she tried to steady her breathing. 'I will be killing another one ,instead of saving. Such a Doctor I am.'

The Xenon swung one of those massive arms out of malice.

Kaori saw it coming... the arm descended like a pillar of muscle and bone, she didn't wait and threw herself into a desperate slide. The fist passed inches above her head, close enough to disturb her hair, and slammed into the ground where she'd been standing.

The cobblestones exploded.

Sharp stones sprayed outward in every direction. Kaori rolled through the debris, using the momentum to come up on the Xenon's other side. She drove her sword upward into its ribcage, angling for where a human heart would be.

As a veteran doctor she was no stranger to human anatomy.

The blade sank hilt-deep.

The Xenon staggered, green blood pouring from the wound in sluggish pulses. Kaori twisted the blade in a vicious, grinding motion—and then yanked it free in a spray of gore.

The creature took two steps back.

Then three.

And finally collapsed like a demolished building, hitting the ground with enough force to send up a cloud of dust.

Kaori staggered backward, blade trembling in her grip. Sweat poured down her face, mixing with the blood—both hers and the Xenon's—spattering her features.

Her arms felt like lead. Her legs threatened to give out with every heartbeat, it was a hell moving with a sword without the system's enhanced strength. No matter what... she was used to them and one thing was clear.

she could not go back to living a normal life now.

Clap.

Clap.

Clap.

The sound cut through the chaos... it was slow, measured and mocking.

The demon applauded.

"Delightful," it purred, voice soft and intimate despite the distance. "Very well done... for someone as weak as you."

It took a step forward.

Then another.

As the towering figure walked towards her, kaori felt a very strong force pushing her down.

She fell to her knees, gasping.

The demon closed the distance within a heartbeat and stood just above her like an omen of death.

Kaori tried to pick her body up and raise the blade. But she couldn't.

Instead the demon raised his hand to finish the weak little girl in front of him... but stopped as it noticed moment on his left.

His attention shifted to his left and suddenly something hit its head from the right straight in the forehead.

The demon's neck cracked a little, but the rebar that Ishiki had used to hit him was completely bent from between.

Ishiki didn't wait and jumped back to maintain distance just before the backhand of the demon came in motion where he was standing.

There was no doubt... just one hit and he would be dead.

A thin line of golden viscus blood appeared on its forehead where Ishiki had hit him.

Kaori had seized the moment and she was already with Nina. But both of them were too frail and powerless to fight.

But something was wrong... instead of attacking Ishiki the demon moved towards the ladies.

'Screw you!'

Ishiki gritted his teeth and ran... He sprinted and closed the distance and skidding from his momentum, he planted himself as a wall between the Demon and the two girls.

"I won't let you," Ishiki rasped. "Touch them."

The Demon stopped and looked down at Ishiki with Curiosity.

"Oh?" it said, drawing the word out like honey dripping from a spoon. "You won't?"
