Melanie's Adventures

Chapter 5: The man in her dreams

Sleep reigned and the being of the dreaming blessed her. In her sleep, Melanie dreamt about walking in the ruins of war where she met a nameless man who appeared tortured and worn out and when he spoke it echoed throughout the place.

"Impulsion will cost you much that you cannot afford. Think with your head."

That was the man's words before he disappeared. The level of absurdity surrounding the dream made Melanie wake up with a start and begin to question herself if she was going insane because of the war.

She couldn't even remember the dream properly but she did remember reading a book on psychology that told her that people's subconscious manifests their fears as dreams most of the time. So she just shrugged the weight of the message in the dream off.

Speaking of subconscious, why hadn't she ever dreamed of Pete. Was it unrequited love? No, they loved each other and they knew it. She spent like thirty minutes of the morning frantically thinking about him. She thought of the dates they to could go on, the children they would have and a lot more until she realized that it might be all but possible because war was looming over their heads. She even considered her resignation from the army if it wasn't too late but a mind in love is a foolish mind.

Did she hesitate to ignore her schedule to find Pete? Yes, she did. If Pete was not coming to visit, she would. She donned her her attire and boots and headed out to the boys' quarters.

In the boys' quarters, Melanie ran around like a headless chicken. She managed to find Pete's dormitory but didn't find him. She even made it her priority to find him by hook or by crook. She went left, right, front, back and center inattentive to the objectifying eyes that followed her in every direction. She was in a boys' quarters after all and where do you expect to find the maniacal energy of men who have been seductively deprived in a civilized place such as the barracks?

The realization that she had waded deep into uncharted waters and that she had made ripples in what already seemed like a mild chaotic environment dawned on her quite late. Before she could say Jack, she had groping hands and unrestrained individuals enclosing her like a pride of lions. This pride of lions were more than ready to have finishing turns with this curvy prey.

Melanie couldn't stop it and she couldn't escape. All she could do now was to move backwards praying that God himself would descend to save her but eventually, her back was against the wall.

This wall was her refuge. All the approaching men seemed to take one good look at it and scowl away, flinging their face towels in disappointment. Melanie felt safe again but something was wrong. The wall had a heartbeat. It was solid and a bit rough or maybe it was just her clothes.

The girl felt more. She felt what seemed like two huge sculptured tree stumps and still felt more. Her slow mind wasn't helping at all and it wasn't until the person behind her flinched a bit that Melanie noticed that she was groping a man.

She jumped forward and turned back with embarrassed-red face.

"I am so sorry. I did not mean for that to happen..."

"You're Melanie right? I don't know if you still recognize me.", the stranger said while widening his eyes as if that would make him recognizable.

Spectacles, thick eyebrows, dark brown eyes. It all started to piece up. It was Ampofo. She met him only once when she first came to the barracks. She had freaked out and fallen on him because of a territorial lizard.

Ampofo was really the hot cake. He aced every test thrown at him from God knows where, be it a test of strength or written exams and all the higher-ups had their eyes on him. Ampofo definitely had a set future.

"Seems someone lost their way", Ampofo spoke in his soothing deep voice while staring intently at her.

Melanie's faced flushed even more redder as she looked away. The handsomeness was overload.

"I guess I did."

"Now I wonder what could bring such a jewel into the stones"

"Well, I was looking for someone and apparently, he isn't here."

"The quarters is bigger than it looks so why don't you gimme the details of this person you're looking for and I'll fetch him"

"You would do that, thank you. His name is Pete."

"Is he your boyfriend? Gosh, I feel jealous already and yeah I might need his full name."

"Come to think of it, I don't really know his full name."

"What gentleman doesn't give his full name to a lady such as yourself. I'll do my best but for now let me escort you outside before someone gets any crazy idea over here."

As they made their way out, Melanie just couldn't take her eyes off of his broad sculptured back. It was just alluring. Her temperature rose just from staring at his chest. It was even more broader than Pete's. His pectorals were so huge that you could hear the stress in the compress shirt anytime he made a movement. His torso narrowed downwards to his waist and expanded downwards again. Her dark thoughts had taken over making her salivate almost uncontrollably at a mere fabric crease in his trousers.

They finally made their way out but Melanie did not even realize it. Ampofo had been talking all along but Melanie wasn't listening.

"So we're finally out now", Ampofo said as he grabbed her dainty woman hands and kissed them goodbye, "Till we meet again".

"Yeah, next time", Melanie said almost forgetting to breathe.
