Melanie's Adventures

Chapter 1: Melanie and friends

Attention!..Get to your positions!..Disperse!

Melanie had just finished her training session for the day and decided to meet up with her best friend in the changing room.

"Today was much difficult, wasn't it?", she said to Lucy as she tugged her uncomfortable uniform upwards in an attempt to free herself from its bondage.

"To me, it's the same as always. Training to serve the country and all that", Lucy, the tougher one, replied to Melanie.

Melanie could not restrain herself from smiling and admiring her friend at the same time. Anytime Lucy spoke like this, Melanie was just so motivated even though it never reflected in any of her training sessions.

"Get up", the Commander would yell, "On the battlefield, you would be dog food by now".

The mean group of girls would poke fun at her failure and the so-called sympathetic ones would try and talk her out of becoming a soldier because, well, she wasn't making impressive progress. The only ones who ever acknowledged her nothing-much progress were Lucy and her boyfriend whom she was going to meet right after she had finished changing into normal wear.

The men's training station was a bit far from the women's but Melanie endured the turmoil because why not?. She had just newly fallen in love and she was showing signs and symptoms of the icky things that lovers do. It took quite some time before she was able to locate Pete because he was always on the move. Melanie started to fret and to second guess her decision of coming to see Pete right after her training session when her body reminded her that she was tired.

"Reporting in, sir!".

Melanie turned to see Pete standing statue-like, fixating his ebony face at her and trying to force in a smirk which was predetermined to crack out of his face revealing those to-die for set of pearly teeth. He had his arm bent and his hand at his head, leaving his shirt no other choice than to tighten at his pectorals.

"Melanie!", Pete nudged at her, oblivious to the fact that, he, had hypnotized her.

"Y-Yes,",Melanie stuttered, almost salivating, "Yes sir"

"That's not how you're supposed to answer, you know, right?"

"Whatever", Melanie hissed back as if she wasn't vulnerable fifteen seconds ago.

"So, how was today?", she nervously asked, hoping to receive an answer that would extend their conversation by hours.

"A bit harsh but bearable, what about you? Did Commander Hill and Sergeant Lee make it easy for you"

"I think you know the answer to that, ugh, I wish i was a bit more like you or Lucy", she let out.

The end of Melanie's sentence made Pete shudder a bit, he cleared his throat and said,

"Why don't we take the route towards the forest, you know, for fresh air and things"

Melanie cleared her throat, "What kind of things, be specific, comrade, you are a soldier in training, come on, what kind of things are we going to do there"

"Really, I know it's common around here but I'm too decent for that, you're scaring me, Melanie"

"I know, just wanted to tickle you out of your seat and guess what, I succeeded"

They both chuckled and continued on their path. As they went along, Melanie thought it was the convenient time to share her training moments with her better half.

"Oh my gosh, I really wish I could gorge her eyes out. Like who does she think she is, a goddess or something, it's not like she is even that good"

Melanie kept blabbering about her grudges with other girls to Pete nonstop and Pete would cut in with the occasional 'hmm', showing that he was being attentive. Throughout the whole one-sided conversation, he faced Melanie but his eyes embodied absence of mind.

Pete started to fidget with leaves and flowers that he would tear off nearby plants, which was very unusual of him because he was the calm and collected individual that kept his cool no matter the situation. Still, Melanie was indifferent to this. Has she even noticed?

"Melanie.. I..", Pete started.

She turned to face Pete with eyes of anticipation, like she was waiting for this moment her entire life.

"I just, uhm, wanted...to", Pete was cut short by the noisy emergency sirens crying out.
