Chapter 641: Base Destroyed
The piercing alarm blared simultaneously from the reconnaissance ship five hundred kilometers away.
Mu Fan, who had been intently watching below, suddenly lifted his head, "What's happening?"
"The temporary base is under attack!" Black's angry voice echoed, as the temporary base was a critical stronghold he painstakingly established, and now it was being ambushed?
"Is there any footage of the attackers?" Despite sensing something amiss, Mu Fan remained exceptionally calm.
In his combat career, unforeseen situations were as commonplace as eating.
Amidst the hissing sound, a signal line on the light screen wavered for several seconds before finally revealing an image, though it was extremely blurry.
Planet 131 lacked basic signal relay stations and had Zeg soldiers' Corruptors capable of attacking outer space, making the presence of near-Earth satellites impossible.
The ability to synchronize video over such a distance was already something akin to a miracle.
"Signal unstable, temporary base's transmission power limited, electromagnetic interference occurring, efforts to counteract are underway."
In the hazy footage, Mu Fan saw the northwest corner of the temporary base.
At this moment, those brown fungus blankets visibly outside the metal walls were rapidly expanding, forming a besieging circle around the temporary base in an instant.
When the first creature crawled out from an underground hole, its yellow-green shell and sharp pincers allowed him to quickly identify it as a mature jet tiger insect.
However, when an overwhelming swarm of jet tiger insects surged out of the pit like floodwaters, Mu Fan felt his scalp tingling.
"They actually tunneled all the way to our doorstep?"
"Master Black wants to turn you all into fertilizer!"
In Mu Fan's view, on the nine-meter-high metal wall, those autonomous artillery and machine gun towers rapidly began firing, spewing dense tongues of flame that interwove into a terrifying fire net falling outward.
Under the overwhelming rain of bullets, yellow-green liquid splattered from the dense jet tiger insects.
This over-20mm caliber autocannon, a single bullet was enough to pierce through the thick shells of the Zegs.
Thus, shattered Zeg limbs flew everywhere, like countless splashes hitting and vanishing against waves.
Accompanied by Black's excited roar, Mu Fan saw rows of Zegs falling, but the speed at which insects emerged from those pits seemed far exceeding the temporary base's rate of elimination.
However, Black's excitement lasted less than two seconds.
Just as the base defenses, under its control, turned their weapons to collectively target the towering pits.
Suddenly, several earth waves exploded, and dozens of massive shadows drilled out from underground, roaring as they charged toward the firing autonomous weapons.
"Tier 7 Rhino Worms! These bugs have truly gone mad."
Though their name included "Rhino", its sharp tri-horn and the body as large as an elephant were far more terrifying than an actual rhino.
The terrifying 22mm bullets of the autocannon, which could tear apart a tiger insect shell, merely punched a small blood pit when hitting these giant Zegs.
However, this small pit, compared to the vast body of the Rhino Worm, did nothing but infuriate it further.
Thus, in Mu Fan's eyes, and in Black's roar, this hybrid of a prehistoric triceratops and a rhino, with wild ferocity, barreled through the flying bullets and smashed heavily into the solid steel walls.
"Boom!"
In the teeth-clenching sound, Mu Fan saw the entire screen heavily tremble.
Then an enormous dent suddenly appeared in the thick metal wall!
Moreover, there were three deep gouges, and the autonomous turrets mounted on top lost their grip and fell off, then were stomped deep into the mud by massive feet.
And the high voltage electric grid, which could ignite ordinary tiger insects, only sparked densely on the surface shell of this Zeg.
But it was not enough to make the Rhino Worm faint, the giant Zeg shook its head, then pulled its head off the wall, raising it with a roar.
"This thing actually lay in ambush near the base for so long..."
Black said incredulously, making its usual pride hard to accept.
A creature without even a brain had actually evaded its scans.
"The threat level of these Zegs probably needs to be escalated; this level of command ability can't possibly be from a single Giant Corruptor or any single overseer."
"How much longer can the base hold, and how long before the fleet returns?"
Mu Fan asked solemnly, posing a crucial question.
"It can hold for at most five minutes... prepare to evacuate!"
When the scene changed again, Black's voice abruptly shifted.
Because, in the footage, those densely packed jet tiger insects, previously covering almost the entire field of view, were now all silent, lining up in a dense horizontal formation around the temporary base.
With wide-open fangs dripping yellow-green liquid, their mouthparts slowly extended, then collectively raised to aim diagonally upwards.
The instant Mu Fan blinked, the green acidic venom obscured the sky, forming a massive curtain that came down.
As the acidic venom touched the walls, a violent chemical reaction occurred, and with a sharp hissing sound, bubbles instantly bubbled up from the silver-white walls.
The main body of the temporary base was a fixed transport ship, but this near-Earth transportation facility couldn't perform the Shadow Fleet's distinctive acid scour mode.
Therefore, what Mu Fan and Black saw was the rapid dissolution of the metal walls.
Up to this point, Black could still conclude that holding for five minutes was feasible.
Yet, when a clumsy, enormous, bulbous "spider" emerged from the rear pit, Black's voice completely shifted to "prepare to evacuate".
This time Mu Fan didn't need Black's introduction to know what it was.
It was a type of creature he had previously faced...
Plasma Worm!
A terrifying creature that could launch giant plasma balls through its fat and bloated tail.
Countless beetles ascended from underground, lifting this bloated plasma worm, then quickly adjusted its tail to target the temporary base.
The enormous tail began to glow with blue light like a lantern, even illuminating its tail shell transparently.
As it began to strain and lift its tail high, including the Rhino Worms, all the insects automatically moved aside in front of the Plasma Worm.
"Boom!"
The video screen was instantly filled with the dazzling, blinding plasma light ball over three meters in diameter.
And then...
The screen turned a snowy white, with only rustling sounds remaining.
The signal connection completely severed.
Amidst that Primitive Forest, a massive blue magnetic storm cloud arose.
"The temporary base is done for... those damned bugs!"
Black's roar reverberated inside the reconnaissance ship.
"Alert: A large number of unidentified organisms detected approaching from two o'clock, distance 80 kilometers."
"Alert: Unidentified flying object detected approaching from seven o'clock, distance 90 kilometers."
On the drone's synchronized footage before Mu Fan, a swarm of red dots suddenly appeared.
