Mated To The Last Primordial Lycan: A Wolf's Journey To Immortality

Chapter 5: Napua is awake

She was the first in the kingdom to awaken her wolf at the age of 5. Many thought she was a rare talent. The Alpha loved talents and took her in, thinking she would become an ability user, which in turn would become a useful weapon to the pack, but unfortunately, her wolf disappointed her.

Not only was she lazy, she would sleep for months on end, only waking up sometimes for about one week, or worse, one hour to keep her company.

But she loved it when her wolf was awake. They could talk about anything and everything. They would run around the forest, feel the wind, the scent of damp air, and when it rained, they would run through the rain, unbothered by what people would say.

It was one of those times, when her wolf was awake that Markkus found her. Her wolf was running through the forest, unbridled. The speed was one that even Markkus's wolf couldn't catch up with, and by the time he met her resting, he was gasping for air.

"You're so fast," he told her. "I admire you. By the way, I'm Markkus, and you're?"

Evelyn was surprised that Markkus was speaking to her, a mere omega.

At that time, he was 18 years old. He barely stayed in the pack because he was getting ready to go to the academy.

She'd always admired him from afar, and was even fortunate to serve him once, but he didn't notice her.

However, the first reason she liked him was because of his good heart.

Even though he didn't notice her before, he didn't mistreat her. When his siblings made side comments about everything she did on the table, he cautioned them sternly.

How could she not be happy to have such a person speak to her? And when her lazy wolf shamelessly called him 'mate', she was flabbergasted.

And to her shock, Markkus didn't reject her. He had sex with her, right there and then. Her wolf didn't disappear on her for a week, making everyone, including herself, believe that she was finally alright. Even the Alpha was pleased and asked that she be trained by Markkus himself.

She was barely 16.

But unfortunately, her wolf didn't wait to disappoint her again. She went into deep slumber for six months. Within that period, Evelyn, who had been put on a high pedestal by the Alpha, suddenly plummeted. Those who were jealous of her, but didn't dare to touch her at the time, poured out when she lost the Alpha's favor.

At that time, she thought Markkus would succumb to the pressure from his family and friends, and reject her, but he didn't. He liked her the way she was.

Evelyn smiled to herself. The thought of Markkus really made her very happy.

'Happy even when I'm not around? You're a betrayal, Eve. Hmph!'

Evelyn's eyes widened. That was Napua, her wolf!

"Hey, are you awake?" Evelyn was excited, her eyes shining in the dark.

'What? You want me to sleep forever?'

"Of course, not. I was just happy to know you're awake. For how long can you stay awake?"

'For as long as your body can allow me.'

Evelyn frowned slightly, "What do you mean? Is my body not healthy?"

'When have you ever been healthy?'

Evelyn could feel her wolf rolling her eyes.

'That hot water, why didn't you dodge? Haven't you been training like I told you? Also, why did you let them hit you again?'

Evelyn sighed, "How can I dodge it when I didn't see it coming? Even if I saw it coming, I wouldn't dodge. It would look as if I was challenging them, and the outcome wouldn't be good."

She's experienced more than enough to know what comes after defiance.

'You make me angry sometimes, you know. You getting hurt also affects me, even in my sleep. I don't understand why you would want me to feel your pain. Get stronger, no, fight back against those people, no. Tell me, Eve, what should I do with you?'

Evelyn laughed at the tone. "Stop whining. If you stop sleeping and help me sometimes, I wouldn't be in this mess. Do you think my body doesn't feel pain, even though I heal quicker? I also don't like to endure those painful torments, you know."

Her wolf stayed silent for a moment.

'I promise you, if I retire from slumber, I'll definitely tear them all apart. I won't spare any of them for making me, Queen Napua, go through this pain and helplessness.'

Evelyn didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Her wolf has never fought before, and she barely trained - since Napua was mostly sleeping, so how could she fight?

But Evelyn didn't want to burst her bubble, knowing her wolf to be the most proud and stubborn being she had ever encountered. So, she always humored her, letting her believe that she was capable of taking on the world.

"Of course, Napua," Evelyn said, trying to sound as serious and convincing as possible. "We'll take them down, one by one. But for now, let's just focus on getting through this difficult time. Let's be careful not to make more enemies, okay?"

Her wolf snorted in disgust.

'Careful? You're always careful, and look where it's gotten us. Nowhere. We're still at the bottom of the pack, still getting bullied and harassed. It's time for a change, Eve. And I'm the one who's going to bring about that change. I can't continue cooping in here like some spineless cat. It's annoying.'

Evelyn smiled bitterly. She also wanted to be strong like everyone else. Her wolf had also tried to remain awake, but no matter what, they couldn't help it.

Markkus had taken her to the healer, trying to find a solution, but the healer had said Evelyn and her wolf were just too weak and useless.

She sighed, trying not to think about her worthlessness.

"You know what you need?" she suddenly said.

'What?'

"Race. Run for a while and enjoy the wind to calm your head."

'I think I like that. I've been sleeping for nearly a month.'

Just then, she gave herself up, and allowed Napua take over. She transformed into a pure white wolf with piercing ocean blue eyes that seemed to gleam in the darkness.

The transformation was swift and seamless, and soon Napua was standing on four legs, her white fur fluffed up in agitation.

She let out a low growl, her eyes fixed intently on some point in the distance.

Beta Barak, who was hiding behind a tree, felt Napua's eyes boring into him. A cold shiver ran down his spine, and he backed away.

He was the lycan's beta, a talented ability user who wields two elements, trained by Lord Vlad himself, yet the sight of Evelyn's wolf caused his hair to stand on ends. His own beast cowered!

Meanwhile, feeling no malicious intent from the beast hiding in the distance, Napua ignored him. She stretched her legs and arched her back, giving a good yawn. With a burst of speed, she took off.

She was like the speed of light as she shot forward, her paws barely touching the ground.

The wind whipped through Napua's fur, and her ears flattened against her head as she gained momentum. She felt alive and free from all the troubles that plagued her human form.

As she ran, her wolf's agitation slowly began to dissipate, replaced by excitement. Unbeknownst to them, her white fur was starting to take on a different form. She was glowing with an ethereal light, as if the moon itself had dropped down.

Barak, who was finding it difficult to catch up, froze when he saw the wolf glowing from the distance. His jaw dropped and his wolf's eyes widened, letting out a low growl, as if to exclaim…
