George had located Pierce through telepathy and instantly teleported to his position. Without hesitation, he swiftly dealt with Pierce's subordinates and then used the Legilimency spell to extract Pierce's memories.
As for why he chose to kill Pierce instead of handing him over to Coulson for interrogation—
First, he didn't want Coulson and his team to learn the location of the Tesseract from Pierce, only to track it to the isolated island and discover that it had already been taken. That could lead them to suspect that he was the one who took it.
Although even if they did find out, he had no intention of handing over the Tesseract, it would still be a hassle.
Second, he believed that if Pierce were merely captured instead of eliminated, Hydra's influence would eventually ensure his rescue. Killing him now was simply the easiest solution.
As for other Hydra-related intelligence? That had nothing to do with him.
Most of Hydra's soldiers had been deployed to defend the lower levels, leaving only a few within the building. George effortlessly manipulated the surrounding metal to take care of the remaining enemies before meeting up with Steve and the others, who were rescuing the hostages.
From there, things were straightforward. Coulson, Black Widow, and other high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agents took over, handling the aftermath and ensuring the safety of the rescued personnel.
Meanwhile, George, Logan, Steve, and Tony finally had a moment to relax.
"I think it's time for us to leave," Logan suggested, eyeing the swarm of reporters rushing toward the Triskelion's entrance. He turned to George for approval.
Tony, however, retracted his helmet and interjected, "I don't think you guys need to be in such a hurry. Sooner or later, the school will have to face public scrutiny. This could be the perfect opportunity for some publicity."
"That actually makes sense," George murmured, reconsidering. He had initially planned to leave, but Tony had a point—after all, they had just saved Washington, arguably even the entire world. There was no better time to introduce the Superpower Academy.
"Excuse me, are you really Captain America?" a reporter asked eagerly.
"Yes. I crashed into a glacier and was frozen for sixty-six years. This year, Dean George rescued me," Steve replied calmly.
Another reporter turned to Logan. "Are you the Wolverine from the comics? Does that mean mutants are real?"
"Mr. George, are you a mutant as well? Why did Steve call you 'Dean'? What school are you in charge of?"
The press surrounded them, bombarding them with questions. Steve and Logan exchanged glances, unsure of how to respond.
Tony, on the other hand, was completely in his element, smoothly handling the questions directed at him—though surprisingly, there weren't as many as usual.
Normally, Tony was the center of media attention, but today, the public already knew too much about him. He wasn't a novelty anymore. At most, reporters inquired about his latest flashy suit.
Instead, their main focus shifted to Captain America, Wolverine, and the seemingly angelic, god-like figure—Dean George.
"Alright," George finally spoke up, stepping forward to address the crowd. "Let me explain the situation.
"Mutants? They no longer exist. Instead, what we have are individuals with extraordinary abilities—superpowered beings.
"There are many people in this world like us. Anyone with skills beyond those of an ordinary human can be considered a superpowered individual.
"Take Tony, for example. I believe he qualifies as a superpowered individual, not because of physical abilities, but because his genius-level intellect far surpasses that of an average person.
"They call me 'Dean' because I founded the Superpower Academy—a school dedicated to training individuals with exceptional abilities, helping them refine their powers, and guiding them toward making meaningful contributions to society.
"Our faculty is made up of some of the best—Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, and many more are part of our teaching staff.
"If you, or your child, possesses abilities beyond those of a normal person, our academy welcomes you. We will ensure that their potential is nurtured to the fullest."
"We can help you gain better control over your abilities and teach you how to use them effectively to find the right path for your future."
George paused for a moment before continuing:
"As for what exactly happened this time?
We were invited by Agent Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. to assist in stopping Hydra's attempt to use the Helicarriers to achieve world domination."
George then laid out all the details of Project Insight.
If he didn't reveal the truth, how else would the public understand that they hadn't just stopped a nuclear missile and saved Washington—they had saved the entire world?
The government, of course, wouldn't want the public to know about any of this. The fact that a nuclear missile was nearly launched at Washington was already a massive scandal that would require extensive damage control.
It would take an enormous amount of effort to calm the outrage of Washington's citizens and provide an explanation to the entire country.
Now that George had publicly exposed the details of Hydra's Project Insight, the situation would only become even more complicated.
But George didn't care. That was a problem for world governments to deal with. If it gave them more headaches, all the better—it would keep them too busy to meddle with his school.
"In any case, we welcome superpowered individuals from all over the world to join the Superpower Academy. Our school is located in New York."
After stating an address near the school, George exchanged a glance with Tony before teleporting away with Steve and Logan.
He wasn't worried about revealing a location. After all, only those he personally allowed could actually see the school. Even if someone arrived at the supposed location, the academy would remain invisible to them.
However, as long as they got close, Professor X would be able to sense them through telepathy. From there, candidates could undergo an entrance interview to determine whether they could enroll.
After this public announcement, enrollment at the Superpower Academy was bound to increase dramatically.
Upon teleporting back to the cloaked X-Jet parked nearby, George cast a tracking spell and set off to retrieve Dr. Banner, who had been transported to an unknown location by Gordon.
That night, the X-Jet returned to the academy.
The Next Evening
George received a call from Black Widow.
"George, does your offer for me to become a teacher at the school still stand?"
After the recent crisis, S.H.I.E.L.D. had been completely abandoned by the World Security Council. The organization had been reduced to a U.S.-based agency, similar to the CIA, responsible for handling abnormal events.
In other words, S.H.I.E.L.D., once a global peacekeeping organization dedicated to protecting the world, had now become a government agency solely serving the interests of the United States.
With Coulson appointed as the new Director and Hill as his Deputy, Black Widow found herself at a crossroads.
She had joined S.H.I.E.L.D. as a form of redemption, believing that by fighting for world peace, she could atone for the sins she had committed while working for the Red Room.
But after the Hydra incident, she had already been considering leaving.
Now that S.H.I.E.L.D. was no longer a global organization but rather an arm of the U.S. government, she felt that staying would no longer be atonement—it might even add to her sins.
Besides, she wasn't even an American citizen to begin with.
"Of course, the offer still stands. We're in need of more teachers—welcome to the Superpower Academy!"
George didn't hesitate, smiling as he accepted Black Widow's decision to join.
