The War Machine was originally a suit that Tony had sent out. Even though it had been heavily modified by Hammer Industries and had a control system set up by Ivan Vanko, Tony knew that, given time, he could fix it.
"J.A.R.V.I.S., begin system repairs!"
"Repairs starting... Repairing... Repairs complete."
With J.A.R.V.I.S. infiltrating the War Machine's system, the machine was free from Ivan Vanko's remote control within ten seconds, returning to normal operation.
"I mean, why would you set up a backdoor on the backside? That's just awkward!" Rhodes, now in control of the War Machine, couldn't help but make a sarcastic remark.
Tony withdrew his finger and replied helplessly, "Well, since it's a backdoor, it only makes sense to put it there. I didn't expect someone to be inside the suit while I was fixing the system."
When he initially designed it, the backdoor was meant for system optimization, and usually, the suit was left in the lab, disconnected after being removed, with the connection cables inserted like plugging wires into a computer. He certainly hadn't expected this situation, where he'd have to use his finger as a connection point to fix the system.
"Next time, I'll put it in the front... Wait, no, that doesn't seem right either. Maybe the back again."
"So, what now? Do we go find this Ivan Vanko guy?" George asked, looking at the two who were still bantering.
Rhodes glanced curiously at the wings on George's back, then shrugged. "The real problem is, we don't know where Ivan Vanko is hiding. We may need to ask Hammer first."
"No need. Finding people is George's specialty."
Tony turned to George, knowing that George had tracking abilities. If he wanted to find someone, there was no one he couldn't locate.
George was about to nod when he suddenly turned to the sky, smiling.
"It looks like we don't need to search. The main player is already here."
"Sir, detecting an object with an extremely high energy reading approaching at high speed."
J.A.R.V.I.S. also alerted Tony at the same time.
Moments later, a humanoid machine, larger than both Tony and the War Machine, landed in front of the three.
It was Ivan Vanko. After seeing that his robotic soldiers had been destroyed and the War Machine's control had been broken, he had donned the whip-suit he designed and arrived in person.
The person who destroyed his robotic soldiers was indeed formidable, but Vanko had confidence in his own whip-suit. He also came with the mindset of taking Tony down with him, even if it meant death.
Once a god is wounded and bleeds, people will no longer fear or believe in them. And as long as blood is spilled into the water, sharks will come.
What Vanko wanted was for everyone to understand that Iron Man wasn't invincible. If they wanted to, they could consume his technology and Stark Industries.
So, whether or not he could kill Tony Stark wasn't even his main priority.
"Don't move. I'm going to use my 'ex-wife' to blow this guy to pieces!"
Upon seeing Ivan Vanko open his helmet and reveal his face, Rhodes immediately flew in front of George and Tony, raising a special launcher on his shoulder.
Having been controlled by Vanko until now, Rhodes was seething with frustration.
The "ex-wife" he referred to was the most powerful weapon Hammer Industries had added to the suit during its modifications: a small Sidewinder missile, powerful enough to destroy a bunker.
"What 'ex-wife'?" Tony clearly hadn't understood what Rhodes meant.
"Bi-u!"
The "ex-wife" missile fired from the War Machine's shoulder, flying directly at the whip-suit, which did not even try to dodge. Then, nothing happened as the missile simply dropped to the ground.
"Didn't Hammer tell you that it needs a certain amount of acceleration and distance to detonate? Otherwise, it's just a dud?" Vanko mocked, sealing his helmet back into place. Then, with a flick of his wrists, two titanium whips charged with high-voltage electricity shot out.
Tony couldn't help but mutter behind him, "Hammer's Sidewinder missiles—trash among trash."
"Come on, let the world see just how fragile you really are."
Vanko accelerated, swinging the electric whips toward the three of them.
Tony and the War Machine quickly activated their suit weapons to counter Vanko's attack, but all of their efforts were easily blocked by the thick armor of the whip-suit, which proved to be impervious to their strikes.
The whip was suspended in midair, just like the robotic soldiers before it, held in place by George's magnetic control.
"What's this? A lightning five-strike whip performance?"
"Here we go again, but my whip-suit is no ordinary robot soldier."
The energy in the reactor on his chest surged to its peak. The whip-suit, powered by its immense kinetic energy, forcefully broke through the magnetic control and charged toward the three of them once again.
After fighting the robotic soldiers earlier, Vanko realized that George seemed to be able to use some kind of power to restrict the movement of the robots, though it wasn't a complete restraint. His whip-suit, however, was several times more powerful than the robotic soldiers. As long as he maintained enough momentum, George wouldn't be able to stop the whip-suit's movement.
"I'm in a hurry to get back, so I won't play with you any longer."
Watching the whip-suit charging at him, George waved his hand and cast a spell.
"Disarm!"
The disarmament spell went into effect, and the electric whips in the suit's hands were instantly sent flying away.
Before Vanko could even process the sudden loss of his weapons, George's hand was already pressing against the suit's armor.
"Metamorphosis!"
The metamorphosis spell from the Apprentice Mage's world activated, causing Vanko's advanced whip-suit to instantly transform into a rusty, worn-out iron shell.
Metamorphosis could bring inanimate objects to life. It could turn an old car into a luxury sports car, a taxi into a tank, or even a tank into a slow-moving vintage car. While George couldn't yet turn a taxi into a tank or a model into an advanced, complex suit of armor, turning a high-tech suit into a simple, battered model was no challenge at all.
Thus, no matter how advanced a technological product was, as long as George used metamorphosis magic on it, and as long as the object wasn't too large, it would usually be reduced to scrap. He could be called the nemesis of high-tech products.
Seeing this scene, both Tony Stark and the War Machine couldn't help but gasp, stepping back a few paces in unison, fearing that they might accidentally be touched by George's hand.
In fact, the transformation spell could have a similar effect, but the more complex the object, the harder it was to transform. For high-level exams, transforming an owl into a small telescope could stump many students.
Let alone more complex items like firearms or technological products.
Even Professor McGonagall, a master of transformation, couldn't transform a plane or cannon.
However, the transformation spell could also be used for biological transformations, such as turning people into animals. For instance, young Barty Crouch Jr., disguised as Moody, used the transformation spell to turn young Malfoy into a ferret.
This was something the metamorphosis spell couldn't achieve.
