Chapter 88: The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse
By noon, the atmosphere grew tense~
Apocalypse, who was resting with his eyes closed on his golden throne, suddenly opened them, looking into the distance.
"They couldn't hold back any longer."
In the distance, a fleet of helicopters approached, accompanied by fighter jets.
After about ten minutes, the helicopters hovered one kilometer away, and figures began descending from them. Some jumped directly, while others slid down ropes.
Seeing this, Apocalypse lost interest in making the first move.
"You all go greet them."
The mutants around him, excited by his words, nodded eagerly.
"Yes, Lord Apocalypse."
Quickly, seven mutants ran out, while the four chosen Horsemen stayed put, coldly watching their comrades leave.
Among Apocalypse's Four Horsemen, besides Lorna and Psylocke, were two men: an angelic figure with metal wings and a young man with short white hair.
The white-haired youth looked at Lorna, who stood nearby with a regal air, then glanced at the alluring Psylocke before turning to the angelic figure.
"Worthington, how long do you think those people will last?"
The angelic, blond, blue-eyed man named Warren Kenneth Worthington had escaped from America to Egypt.
After giving the white-haired man beside him a dismissive look, he replied, "Amin, I think our people won't hold out long."
Amin, a native mutant from Egypt, could transform his body into lightning, though he couldn't maintain this form for very long.
Since being chosen as one of Apocalypse's Horsemen, his powers had increased, though he still fell short in comparison to others.
Because of this, Worthington looked down on Amin.
However, he was genuinely impressed by the power of the other two female Horsemen, especially Lorna, whose abilities surpassed the rest, second only to Apocalypse himself.
Amin disagreed with Worthington's opinion, "You underestimate the children of our god."
"Do you think that after witnessing Lord Apocalypse's power, they would dare come here if they were ordinary people?"
"Well…let's see."
........
Meanwhile, on the other side~
Natasha, Barton, Banner, Logan, Victor, Sam, Jean, Erik, Emil, Tony, and several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents descended from the helicopters, either by jumping or flying down.
Director Nick Fury held an electromagnetic assault rifle, leading the group.
"Erik, Sam, you two can fly, so provide aerial support.
"Logan, Victor, Banner, Blonsky, you have enhanced physical strength; handle the frontline.
"Natasha, Barton, you're with me for ranged support.
"Jean, do whatever you think is best."
Hearing these instructions, Tony realized Nick hadn't assigned him a role, likely because he knew Tony preferred autonomy. So Tony took off to scout ahead.
As soon as he took flight, a stone pillar came hurtling from the distance, striking him.
"Bang!" Tony barely moved back, with no scratches on his suit, which was constructed from Adamantium with Vibranium lining.
His Mark VI suit shared the Mark IV's framework but had been upgraded with stronger materials, allowing him to assemble it overnight.
Looking into the distance, Tony saw seven mutants charging at them.
The one who had attacked him was a tall male mutant, surrounded by sand and gravel, which he condensed into stone pillars to throw.
Each mutant displayed unique powers.
One could split into two, another transformed into a dog-headed form, and yet another's arms became scythes.
Being chosen by Apocalypse, these mutants naturally possessed substantial strength.
In the next moment, Tony launched a repulsor blast at the attackers.
The others sprang into action as well.
"Boom!" Explosions filled the air.
.......
In New York, inside the Umbrella building, Adam was seated in his executive chair, holding a glass of red wine and watching the battle unfold through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s surveillance cameras.
He had access to the cameras because he had funded some of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s electromagnetic weaponry. After all, he wouldn't miss such an epic event.
After watching for a while, he noticed that this unusual version of the Avengers held their own remarkably well.
Within moments, the seven mutants were defeated or killed, without Banner or Emil needing to transform.
"Knock, knock..."
There was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
Soon, Luna entered.
"Boss, taking advantage of the recent drop in stock prices, we successfully acquired another seven percent of Starship's shares at just one-third of the previous price."
"Oh, so now we own 46.4% of their stock?"
"Yes, boss."
"Good. Schedule a shareholders' meeting in a week to announce our acquisition of Starship."
"Understood."
After leaving the acquisition documents, Luna left the office.
Adam glanced at the file, a slight smile appearing on his face.
It turned out that Life Foundation had sold the shares. It seemed that the crisis sparked by Apocalypse had brought unexpected gains.
Perhaps he should borrow more from the bank and buy up other valuable assets while prices were low.
...........
Back in Cairo~
Apocalypse turned slightly, his eyes showing a trace of interest as he looked into the distance.
"It's been ages since mortals dared to challenge a god. Go and see if they are worthy."
Lorna, Psylocke, Worthington, and Amin nodded, then began walking forward.
Along the way, Amin looked at Worthington with a strange expression. He hadn't expected Worthington's prediction to be accurate.
The intruders were powerful; the seven mutants were quickly defeated.
After a while, they finally confronted their foes.
An elderly white man stepped forward and spoke first, "Lorna, are you alright?"
Upon seeing her father, Lorna's heart swelled with emotion.
"Father, I'm fine."
Soon, father and daughter were together, exchanging stories about recent events.
Meanwhile, the battle had already begun.
Psylocke conjured two psychic blades and attacked Logan, who was at the forefront.
Logan quickly extended his Adamantium claws, blocking her strike.
"Clang!"
The sound of metal clashing rang out.
Victor, seeing Logan under attack, lunged at Psylocke from the side.
Psylocke, outnumbered, deftly retreated to dodge the assault.
Worthington spread his metallic wings and took to the sky, targeting the backline where Natasha and the others were positioned.
Barton quickly drew an explosive arrow and fired at him.
"Boom!"
Worthington was blown back.
Amin, surrounded by lightning, unleashed an electric current upon the group.
The scene grew chaotic as the Four Horsemen were swarmed, quickly losing the upper hand.
