Chapter 244: The Gathering Tempest
At this moment, golden cracks of light spread like veins from the corners of Loki's eyes. A vast surge of Odinforce poured through his body, roaring outward across the Nine Realms. Every being, from Alfheim to Nidavellir, shuddered under the weight of the All-Father's divine might. The power kept spreading, as if it could shake the World Tree itself.
"Loki! What are you trying to do?!" Thor bellowed, lifting his Meteor Hammer high. "You've lost control! You'll bring about Ragnarok!"
Loki laughed, the sound wild and unhinged. "Hahahaha! Then let it come! If we burn, we burn together!"
He pushed the Odinforce in his body even harder. Ice-blue energy surged from within him, gathering above his head into a colossal vortex—an energy tornado that pierced the sky itself, tearing open Asgard's heavens. Through the cracks, the glittering stars of the cosmos beyond were visible.
"Everyone will die, I—" Loki suddenly stopped mid-sentence, his eyes widening. Something felt wrong. The massive tornado above him simply vanished without reason, the swirling Odinforce in his body gone as if it had never existed. He stared down at his hands, stunned.
"Wha… what's happening?!"
And then he realized. He slowly turned his head.
A man stood there—a white-haired old warrior clad in golden armor, one cloudy gray eye fixed on Loki.
He was awake.
The All-Father, Odin, had awoken.
Odin raised his hand slightly, and Loki was suddenly yanked into the air as though by an invisible string, hanging helplessly before the king. The All-Father opened his palm, and Gungnir flew back into his grasp with a sharp whoosh.
Loki craned his neck defiantly to meet Odin's gaze, but the truth was clear—he no longer had even the will to fight. The ocean of Odinforce that had flooded his veins had already returned to its true master. Now he was powerless, stripped down to nothing. Against Odin, Thor, and the warriors around them, he wouldn't last a second.
"Do you have anything left to say, Loki?" Odin's voice was calm but heavy. "In the past, I turned a blind eye to your pranks. I never imagined they would evolve into something no longer mischief… but pure evil. I adopted you, made you my son, gave you everything—and this is how you repay me?"
His words boomed across all of Asgard, the sheer force of them making Loki's eardrums hum painfully. It felt as if a giant hand had clamped over his chest, squeezing the air from his lungs. He gasped, struggling to breathe.
Yet he still raised his head, his voice cold as frost. "Gave me everything? What did you give me, Odin, King of Asgard?" Loki's tone dripped with venom. "My entire life was built on your lies. I am a lie. You think this is my revenge? No. My revenge will come when you lock me away, when you torture me—and I find a way to escape. One day, I will rise again."
Odin's eye narrowed slightly. For the first time, Loki felt a prickle of genuine fear.
"If you think being imprisoned in Asgard is torture, then you're still far too naive."
With a flick of his hand, blue light surged. Loki's body vanished in an instant—gone without a trace.
"Thank you, my child."
In the Golden Palace, Odin restored the damage Loki had caused with effortless waves of divine power. Sitting upon his throne, he addressed those gathered with a voice of warm authority.
"It was you, who stood up when Asgard was in peril, and stopped Loki's schemes," Odin said. "If not for your intervention, the Nine Realms might have fallen under his shadow, with consequences too terrible to imagine."
Thor bowed respectfully. "Thank you, Father, but we only played a small part. The one who stopped Loki… was a Midgardian. When Loki seized the power of the gods, it was he who stood against him."
"Oh?" Odin's brow lifted in surprise.
He remembered the figure who had stood beside Thor when he had captured Loki—a man clad in Uru-forged armor. Odin hadn't thought much of him at the time. After all, Thor often kept company with unusual mortals from Midgard. And Midgardians, despite their talents, were still only Midgardians. Odin had glanced at the man, then dismissed him.
But now… Odin recalled something else. Long ago, when he had cast Thor down to Midgard, he had sensed an extraordinarily powerful presence there—and even clashed with it. The duel had left Odin with a slight wound.
Could it be…?
"Where is this man now?" Odin's voice held an urgency none in the court had ever heard before.
"He was just—" Volstagg turned, pointing toward where Gene had been standing only moments ago. But the spot was empty. "Uh… I swear he was right there! Did he just… wander off?"
Odin's gaze lingered on that empty space for a long moment.
If his guess was correct… the one who had stopped Loki was the same being he had once crossed blades with on Midgard.
