Chapter 5: Probing
'Worthy of being a trained soldier,' thought Fury, seeing her not panicking after hearing his explanation calling her a mutant.
He said, "Very well, Private Emma, your act of bravery and courage has saved the lives of many people in the mutant fight that happened."
"The country has decided to reward you with a medal. All the soldiers here are just to ensure your security. What happened just now was merely an accident; they pointed their weapons at you by instinct. I hope you can understand."
To those who didn't know Fury, it would seem he was serious, but Emma had only one thought: 'Protecting me, my ass. You just want to intimidate me.'
She more or less understood the strategy; it was nothing more than intimidation, showing her she was vulnerable and could be killed at any time.
Emma kept up her facade of confusion and surprise, nodding along as Fury spoke, but inside, she was thinking about how to get away from this old fox. Nothing good would come from associating with him.
In this world, the Avengers had not been formed yet, and Tony Stark had just been kidnapped.
The government had no other way to fight against the mutants. The Avengers project had been put on hold for a long time.
Though she didn't know why she was so crucial to the government, she had some ideas based on the fact that Fury had come to her himself.
Seeing her nodding along with apparent confusion, Fury thought, 'Very well, a good soldier should never question orders from their superior.'
Well, Fury was too deep into his drama of being a Colonel, but still, he liked working with obedient people who followed orders without questioning. He thought she was one of those people.
Emma, maintaining her acting skills, looked around at the armed personnel, feigning nervousness. "So, what happens now? Do I get to go home, or is this some sort of debriefing?"
Fury gave a reassuring nod, though his gaze remained firm. "For now, we need to take you to a secure facility for further evaluation. It's important we ensure you're in control of your powers and that we can support you in managing them."
Emma replied, "Yes, Sir," and followed behind Fury as he started leading her.
Though she kept her head down, appearing harmless, Fury had no idea he was being outmaneuvered. She had the memories and instincts of Tsunade, a woman who had fought in wars, led villages, and outsmarted countless enemies.
One of the biggest lessons she learned from Tsunade's memory was to be patient. She shouldn't be anxious about trying to escape but should gather as much information as possible.
Right now, she didn't even know which hospital she was in. Since there were mutants in this world, who knew what kind of technology the military had?
She was 100% sure that if they didn't have something they were confident could stop her, they wouldn't have so few people guarding her, nor would Fury have come to her himself.
Walking through the hospital, it was just as she thought. Apart from the armed men, there wasn't anyone else in the hospital.
When they arrived outside, a black SUV pulled up in front of them. This time, there was only one person inside—the driver, or rather, Agent Daisy Johnson, playing the driver.
"You can enter, Private Emma."
Emma nodded and entered. She was confident in Tsunade's ability to resist; there was definitely no poison that S.H.I.E.L.D. had that could harm her without her noticing.
In fact, if the government or S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to harm her, it didn't mean she wouldn't resist. It was just that she had read many Marvel fanfics where the protagonist became the enemy of everyone, hunted by the government before going into hiding, either evading or being pursued constantly.
Anyway, if she wanted to escape, it would be difficult for them to stop her with all of Tsunade's experience and strength. She also didn't have anyone precious to her who could be used as a hostage.
On the way in the car, Fury asked her, "So, Private Emma, what changes do you feel after your awakening?"
Emma wasn't surprised by the question. It was the beginning of the interrogation. She replied, "After waking up, I feel like my whole body has changed. It's like I've become stronger, faster, and can see more clearly. In short, all my physical senses feel much sharper than ever."
'Hmm, is it physical enhancement? No, if I remember correctly, it's said she has level 8 energy inside her. The physical enhancement should be only one of the effects,' Fury thought. He was really curious about what kind of energy it was that had never been discovered by humanity.
He asked, "Apart from that, do you feel anything else, like some kind of magic?"
Emma replied, "Well, after waking up, I saw some kind of green energy enveloping the building, and deep inside, I can also feel that I'm able to release it whenever I want."
Fury nodded, though inside, he was thinking deeply, 'So when she released the energy that enveloped the building at the beginning, was it really an accident?'
