Chapter 81: Ch.80: The UN Charter Meeting
________________________________________________________________________________
United Nations Headquarters, New York, USA, October 24, 1945
The world was changing rapidly with each passing day after the end of the war. The United Nations Charter, signed in October 1945, had established a new global order. Bharat, China, USSR, USA, France, and the UK were now the six permanent members of the Security Council. This recognition of Bharat as a significant emerging nation in Asia was a testament to its remarkable progress and contributions during the war.
Aryan, the President of Bharat, stood in the grand hall of the United Nations Headquarters, his heart swelling with pride. The inclusion of Bharat as a permanent member of the Security Council was a historic moment. Bharat's military technology had continued to stun and surprise the world, surpassing the levels currently possessed by any country. This technological prowess, combined with strategic alliances and negotiations, had secured Bharat's place on the global stage.
As Aryan took his seat among the other world leaders, he reflected on the journey that had brought Bharat to this point. The support from the USA and the UK, who had been under an agreement with Bharat at the time of its independence, had been crucial. The Allied countries had recognized Bharat's contributions and emergence in the war against Japan, further solidifying its position.
The session began, and Aryan listened intently as the Secretary-General addressed the assembly. "Today, we stand united in our commitment to peace and security. The inclusion of Bharat and China, two great emerging powers from Asia, as permanent members of the Security Council reflects the changing dynamics of our world. These nations have demonstrated their dedication to global stability and progress."
After the session, Aryan met with other leaders, including the leadership of the permanent members, discussing strategies and forging new alliances. The atmosphere was one of cautious optimism, as the world sought to rebuild and move forward from the devastation of war. Aryan's conversations with his counterparts were filled with mutual respect and a shared vision for a better future, which the others understood and responded to in kind, even though each of them had their own motives and agendas to fulfill.
As the leaders gathered in a private chamber, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation. Aryan, representing Bharat, initiated the conversation, his voice steady and resolute.
"Gentlemen, our presence here marks a new era. The world has just witnessed the horrors and devastation caused by the war of this scale for the first time, even surpassing the devastations from the first world war. Now, as we move forward, we have to rebuild and rethink our future direction keeping in mind the consequences of such wars. Bharat is committed towards the inclusive progress of the world, without compromising that of our own interests and instead finding a common ground, so that a new progressive era can be brought out from the shackles of the past world. We must leverage our collective strengths to foster a world where peace and prosperity are not just ideals but realities."
Harry S. Truman, the new US President after the death of Roosevelt and the one who led the US first as the Vice President during Roosevelt's presidency and later as the President during the final stages of the war, was very familiar with Aryan personally due to America's constant contact with Bharat during the war. He, along with the rest of the US administration, also had complicated feelings towards Bharat. On one hand, they were seen as a possible friend and partner for the mutual growth of both countries, while on the other hand, they were wary of the power possessed by Aryan and the metahumans of Bharat. They were also very wary of the military technologies possessed by Bharat, however, they were confident in eventually surpassing them as they believed that they hosted some of the most brilliant minds on the planet and not to mention their secret program to bring the brilliant scientists and researchers from Germany after its defeat and settle them in America.
On the topic initiated by Aryan, he agreed with his statement as long as America was benefiting from it. "I agree, Aryan. The United States believes in the power of collaboration. Our cooperation in economic resources and technological innovations can drive global recovery. We must ensure that our efforts are inclusive, reaching even the most vulnerable nations."
Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister of the UK, had a reluctant expression on his face as he agreed to both their statements. He was rapidly losing influence domestically and the pressure was mounting on him to make sure that the UK recovers from the devastations on its economy and resources during the war and not to mention losing a lot of territories which marked the downfall of the British Empire. Countries that were previously colonies were demanding independence and they couldn't hold much longer and will have to bend to their demands eventually due to pressure. Therefore, although distasteful for him, he had to improve the relationship between Bharat and the UK so that it recovers enough to save its face and its resurgence.
His words were a mix of hypocrisy and hope for a better future for the Empire. "Indeed, Truman. The United Kingdom stands ready to support initiatives that promote stability and growth. Our colonial past has taught us the importance of respecting diverse cultures and fostering mutual respect."
Joseph Stalin, the Premier of the USSR, after listening to the other leaders, too spoke up. "I agree with you all, but our focus should be on creating a balance of power that prevents any single nation from dominating. The USSR advocates for equitable resource distribution and the protection of sovereign rights." His vision for the USSR was to make themselves a superpower and challenge the hegemony of the USA, which had emerged as the most powerful nation in the world after the war. He was also not privy to cooperation with countries like China and Bharat as they were emerging powers which promised greater benefits in his vision for the Soviet Union, though he was a bit cautious.
Chiang Kai-shek, the Premier of the Republic of China, too added his thoughts. "China has endured much, and we understand the value of resilience. We propose a framework that encourages cultural exchange and economic partnerships, ensuring that all nations benefit from our collective progress." For Bharat, his thoughts were complicated, as although he supported its independence from British colonial rule and later very much appreciated the help provided by the Bharatiya military to the Chinese against the Japanese, he had to consider the border issues as well as the rivalry that was taking shape between the two countries. He hoped that with cooperation and diplomacy they can collectively work towards a better future for Asia.
Charles de Gaulle, the President of France, also chimed in. "France supports a vision of unity and cooperation. We must address the root causes of conflict, such as poverty and inequality. By investing in education and infrastructure, we can build a foundation for lasting peace."
The leaders nodded in agreement, their diverse perspectives converging on a common goal. They discussed specific strategies, such as establishing international research centers, creating economic aid packages, and promoting cultural exchanges.
Aryan spoke after a long discussion. "Let us commit to regular dialogues and transparent communication. By understanding each other's needs and aspirations, we can build a more inclusive and harmonious world."
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve. Each leader left the chamber with a shared commitment to work towards a future where cooperation and inclusivity were the cornerstones of global governance, although each of them had their own interests in mind first.
