Chapter 50: Captain Marvel vs Ronan
"What... what just happened?"
Nick Fury stared at the supervillainess, who a moment ago seemed like a ruthless demon ready to throw them all into space, now obediently standing by Ned's side like a cult follower. He asked dumbfoundedly.
At the same time, Fury's face was filled with horror. As a seasoned agent, he understood the terrifying nature of Ned's abilities. If Ned were to use this trick inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters...
"So, it's the Mind Stone?"
Unlike Fury's fear, Talos, the leader of the Skrulls, was much calmer, having seen his fair share of the universe.
Glancing at the yellow gem embedded in Ned's gauntlet, coupled with the current scenario, he quickly pieced together that it was likely one of the six legendary Infinity Stones—the Mind Stone.
"Yes."
Ned nodded and then looked at Talos. "Take your people, Maria, and Fury back to Earth. I'll go rescue Carol."
"Alright."
Talos nodded without hesitation and led everyone toward the hangar.
Maria Rambeau and Nick Fury, both experienced veterans, understood that staying would do no good. Without saying much, they followed Talos toward the hangar obediently.
Meanwhile, Carol, under the stimulation of the Supreme Intelligence, completely unleashed her powers. In an instant, she broke free from her restraints, struck Yon-Rogg away, and stormed out of the chamber containing the device that allowed communication with the Supreme Intelligence.
"Hi~"
The moment Carol rushed out, she saw a group of Kree soldiers armed with laser guns aimed at her.
In the center of the Kree soldiers sat Ned on a recliner, with a female Kree soldier massaging his legs and casting flirtatious glances his way. The sight made Carol feel a wave of nausea.
Seeing Carol emerge, Ned waved at her with a smile. "Fire," he said casually.
"!!!"
Carol's heart instantly tensed. Just as she was about to react, she felt countless lasers whiz past her.
Turning around, she saw Yon-Rogg, his body riddled with holes, collapsing to the ground with an expression of utter unwillingness.
"Oh, my dear sister, judging by your reaction just now, did you doubt your big brother's intentions?"
With the help of the Kree woman by his side, Ned stood up and teased Carol with a grin.
"What's going on here?"
Carol gestured at the obedient Kree soldiers standing around.
"You could call it one of my abilities—mind control," Ned replied.
Unlike Fury, Carol didn't react too strongly to this revelation. Having spent considerable time on Hala, she had seen enough bizarre things to take it in stride.
"Get her out of here. I can't stand the sight of her," Carol said, gesturing disdainfully toward the female Kree soldier who was acting like a servant.
"Alright."
BOOM!
Just as Ned was about to speak, a violent tremor rocked the laboratory, followed by a deafening explosion.
BOOM!!
CRASH!!!
Another massive explosion occurred, and the entire lab disintegrated into pieces, becoming cosmic debris floating in space.
"Ahhhh!!!"
The moment the lab exploded, Carol donned her mask and screamed as she fell toward Earth, plummeting into the dense layers of clouds below.
If she were to crash into the ground at such speed, even with her superhuman physique, she'd undoubtedly be in trouble. But Carol wasn't one to sit idly by.
She adjusted her posture mid-fall, clenched her fists, and aimed them downward. In the next moment, a powerful surge of energy burst forth from her hands, propelling her body upward.
As she rose, Carol seemed to discover something new. Closing her eyes, she carefully sensed the flow of energy within her.
Then, suddenly, her eyes snapped open, and her entire body began to radiate a golden light…
"Prepare to launch the missiles."
Ronan the Accuser, watching from his spaceship as Mar-Vell's lab was reduced to rubble, let out a cold chuckle before turning his gaze toward the blue planet below.
As Ronan spoke, the warship's missile bays slowly opened, unleashing dozens of super-missiles that began descending toward Earth.
Just as the missiles broke through the clouds, a streak of golden light shot upward to intercept them.
"Haaah!!!"
Carol, now fully charged with energy, caught one of the missiles with her hands and, with a loud shout, hurled it back upward.
BOOM!!!
The returned missile triggered a chain reaction, setting off the other missiles in a spectacular explosion high above Earth, sparing the planet from any harm.
"This is impossible! Planet C-53's defense systems are far too primitive to intercept our missile attack," Ronan exclaimed in shock, staring at the fiery explosion.
"It's not the defense systems, Ronan," his lieutenant replied, projecting a hologram.
The image displayed Carol, clad in her new suit, soaring through the skies toward space.
"Take her down," Ronan ordered coldly.
Despite knowing Carol's capabilities, Ronan wasn't fazed. After all, he had an entire fleet at his disposal. How could a single individual stand against him?
At his command, several Kree fighter ships launched from the mothership, heading straight for Carol.
"Woohoo!!"
Carol let out an exhilarated yell and charged toward the incoming fighters without dodging or hesitating.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A series of explosions erupted as the entire squadron of fighters was obliterated. But Carol wasn't done. With newfound energy, she turned her attention to Ronan's warships.
BOOM!!!
A trail of fire and destruction followed as Carol dismantled several of Ronan's starships, reducing them to cosmic debris. The invincible fleet that had accompanied Ronan across countless battles was now being decimated before his eyes.
Finally, Carol hovered before Ronan's flagship, her hands glowing. With a fierce clap, she unleashed a massive golden-red energy wave that stretched far into space, leaving traces of light that hung like scars in the cosmos.
Ronan and his lieutenant exchanged horrified glances, disbelief written across their faces.
"Retreat to the jump point," Ronan commanded, his voice forced into calmness.
"Yes, sir."
But as the lieutenant prepared to initiate the jump, he froze.
"Ronan! The jump drive isn't working!"
Panic filled his voice.
"What's going on?" Ronan demanded, his composure cracking as he turned to his lieutenant.
"You... you should look outside," the lieutenant stammered, pointing toward the void of space.
Ronan turned and saw a mysterious figure floating calmly outside the ship—a man in a mage's robe, draped in a red cloak, and wearing a fearsome mask.
Most terrifying of all was the glowing blue cube in his right hand, radiating a blinding light.
The Space Stone.
