Marvel: Ned the Master of Mystic Arts

Chapter 39: Lost in Time, Found in Fury

After Thor left, Ned continued flying alone in the Quantum Realm. Before long, he arrived at the time coordinates Stark had set for him.

"Sizzle!!"

"Boom!!!"

However, just as Ned was about to enter, a sudden quantum storm swept in, engulfing him and tossing him away. He didn't know how long he had been drifting before the storm finally threw him out.

"Ahhh!!!!"

Ned screamed as he tried to resist the power of the quantum storm, but it was futile—like an ant trying to stop a cart. Under the force of the storm, he smashed through the quantum barrier and was flung out.

"Bang!"

"Ahhh!!!!"

Ned shouted as he fell from the sky. Seeing that he was still at least a few dozen meters above the ground, he panicked. After all, he wasn't Captain America, nor did he have one of his indestructible shields. If he hit the ground like this, he'd be splattered everywhere!

"Hey! Buddy! Now's not the time to mess up! Buddy!!"

Ned frantically slapped the floating cloak on his back. For some reason, ever since the quantum storm hit, the cloak had lost its sentience and was behaving like a regular piece of fabric.

"Buddy!!! Damn it! I swear, when this is over, I'll burn you to ashes with the Eternal Flame!!!"

Ned kept slapping the cloak furiously. Just as he was about to hit the ground, the cloak finally stirred. Enraged, Ned shouted in desperation.

"Whoosh!!!"

As if awakened by his cries, the cloak suddenly came to life. It swiftly stabilized Ned's fall and then spun him around in the air before gently lowering him to the ground.

"Huff… huff…"

Panting heavily, Ned looked at the cloak, which had detached itself from him and was now slumped over as if suffering from severe motion sickness. It swayed slightly, resembling someone who was about to vomit after a terrible bout of car sickness.

"Good buddy! I'll ask Odin to bless you with some divine powers later," Ned muttered breathlessly.

"Beep! Beep!"

At that moment, a vintage car rolled to a stop in front of Ned. The car honked twice, and a burly man dressed in all black stepped out, holding a gun.

The man pointed the gun at Ned with both hands and shouted, "Hey, alien! Listen up! If you so much as move, I'll blow your head off!"

Then, after a brief glance at the still-nauseous floating cloak, the man yelled back into the car, "Is this the green-skinned shapeshifter you were talking about? He doesn't look like the one I saw before!"

"Fury???!!!"

Ned stared at the man with shock, scrutinizing the younger, non-bald version of Nick Fury with both eyes intact.

"Oh, motherfu—! He knows my name!"

A startled young Nick Fury shouted in panic back to the car, "Get out here now! This might be a big catch! He's got a demonic red cloth, and I can't handle him alone!"

"No, he's not a Skrull."

At that moment, a young Carol Danvers, still going by the name "Vers," stepped out of the car. She took a good look at Ned and commented with a hint of surprise.

"Motherf—! Whether he's a Skrull or not doesn't matter! We just saw him flying around in the sky like it was nothing! Even if he's not a Skrull, he's definitely some kind of alien!"

Fury shouted frantically, keeping his eyes and gun trained on Ned with unrelenting focus.

"Carol?"

Ned instantly understood where he had ended up after seeing Fury and Captain Marvel together. He smiled brightly and exclaimed, "Mrs. Carol, is that you?! I'm your long-lost… uh… brother!"

"Boom!!!"

Before Ned could finish his sentence, Carol raised her hand and fired a photon blast straight at him. Fortunately, Ned had anticipated her reaction and quickly dodged, narrowly avoiding the energy beam.

The blast struck a nearby mountain with a deafening roar, dislodging large chunks of rock from the cliffside.

"Carol, what are you doing?!"

Ned shouted as he pulled the floating cloak over himself, feeling much safer with its protection.

"I thought my brother would have the same powers as me," Carol said skeptically, lowering her blazing fist. She had no memories of her past life, but Ned's words stirred both anger and a faint glimmer of hope for familial connection.

"No, your powers aren't innate. You were just an ordinary person initially. Later, during a battle with the Kree, you gained your abilities after an accident," Ned explained honestly.

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

At this point, Captain Marvel still trusted the Kree and her commander, Yon-Rogg. She immediately regarded Ned as a liar and raised her fist again. "You realize you can't dodge this next one, right?"

"Be honest about your origins, you punk."

Carol's tone was laced with killing intent.

"I don't plan to dodge."

By now, Ned had donned the Infinity Gauntlet on his right hand, with the Mind Stone gleaming in its rightful place.

"Hmph!"

Carol snorted coldly and fired another photon blast at him.

"Buzz!!"

At the exact moment the blast was fired, Ned activated the Mind Stone, releasing a beam that collided with Carol's energy attack.

"Boom!!!"

The resulting explosion left a deep crater in the road, while the thick dust cloud obscured both of their figures.

"Thank you."

Nick Fury looked at the floating cloak that had shielded him from the energy shockwave. He patted it gratefully, his heart still pounding.

If not for the cloak's intervention, Fury might have already met his maker.

"Sorry."

Carol apologized reluctantly. Despite her inexperience, she hadn't expected her impulsive attack to almost cost Fury his life. She was visibly upset and quietly returned to the car without saying much.

"So, where are you headed?" Ned asked Fury as he draped the cloak over himself once again for a sense of security.

"Uh…"

Though grateful for the cloak's help, Fury's instincts as a spy made him reluctant to reveal their destination to Ned.

"Well."

Shrugging, Ned opened the car's back door and got in without waiting for an invitation.

"Why are we letting him come along?" Carol asked, clearly displeased.

"Uh… maybe because I couldn't stop him?" Fury replied cautiously.

"Hmph!"

Carol snorted again and turned away, staring silently ahead.
