Marvel Knight of Zodiac

Chapter 17: Chapter 17: The Tension of Choices

Regardless of the opponent's identity, the priority was clear: incapacitate him first.

Following the instructions of the short-haired man, Jimmy paused just steps away from James. He tapped the microphone clipped to his collar, the crackle of static breaking the silence.

"They haven't left, but they've definitely spotted you. You have two options: attack or cooperate."

"I personally suggest the latter. These two have tracked you down from a distance, which means they're no amateurs. Taking them both on at once won't end well for you."

Listening to the short-haired man, Jimmy took a deep breath, stepping into the moonlight. "Hey there, if you don't mind, let's talk this out."

Before he could finish, two dark figures surged from the shadows, their speed catching Jimmy off guard.

Unfazed, Jimmy raised his gun, aiming at one of the figures.

Bang! The sound of the silenced pistol echoed softly, but the bullet sailed wide. The assailant had anticipated the shot.

Jimmy's instincts kicked in. He adjusted his stance, focusing again—his teammates were behind him, and he wouldn't back down now.

Meanwhile, James was already in motion. As the stalker closed in, he quickly communicated with Parker, ready to take action.

To his surprise, the unknown figure also drew a gun, firing without hesitation. Although it was unexpected, it made sense considering the circumstances.

Remembering the lessons from the Zodiac Knight, James tracked the bullet's path based on Jimmy's movements and narrowly evaded it with a burst of agility.

Determined to neutralize the threat, James pressed forward. Suddenly, he sensed a shift in the air—an instinctive warning about a volatile presence nearby.

Before he could fully react, a projectile whizzed past him, embedding itself into the concrete wall nearby.

James had no time to identify the object. Ahead, Jimmy fired again, but James's newfound speed allowed him to dodge effortlessly.

Unbeknownst to James, the short-haired man had instructed Jimmy to focus on him, believing Parker would be the more challenging opponent due to his superior speed and agility.

Jimmy's finger tightened on the trigger as a dark figure darted toward them, blocking James's escape route.

Everything unfolded in a blur, leaving Peter unable to intervene in time.

Suddenly, a red flame flickered around James, igniting his speed. With lightning reflexes, he dodged the incoming assault, barely escaping disaster.

Peter finally reached Jimmy, quickly disarming him and landing a punch.

However, Peter's lack of combat experience made him vulnerable. Jimmy seized the opportunity, landing a swift combination of strikes.

Meanwhile, now free from Jimmy's threat, James intercepted another attack. With clarity, he recognized the weapon—a black arrow.

Examining its construction, James noticed the assailant's deliberate restraint in their attacks.

Realizing this, he called out, "Spider Boy, stand down."

Startled by the sudden change in codename, Peter stepped back, a hint of embarrassment coloring his cheeks. "I underestimated them, but I've learned from my mistake. Next time, I'll turn the tables."

Jimmy scoffed. "You think too highly of yourself. I haven't even begun to show my full potential."

Challenged, James nodded. "Let's see what you've got."

Acknowledging the stalemate, James turned to leave, motioning for Peter to follow.

After walking a few blocks in silence, Peter couldn't hold back. "We just walked away? I wasn't bluffing; I could've taken him. I just... haven't fully absorbed what you taught me..."

Seeing James remain silent, Peter's voice trailed off, leaving an air of uncertainty lingering between them.
