Chapter 115: Ch 108: Not now, you pervert!
When Wanda finally landed with Mantis cradled in her arms, she was welcomed by the sound of chaotic battle — explosions, hums of laser fire, and the guttural roars of Ego's strange earthen army echoing around.
The battlefield was chaos incarnate. Erik was in the air, flying with unnatural speed and agility, his figure barely a blur as he weaved through the hordes of humanoid soldiers.
These creatures, formed from Ego's own surface, moved like an intelligent swarm. Since they couldn't fly like him, they rode massive pillars of earth that shot up like missiles, chasing Erik with deadly precision.
Meanwhile, Cindy was in her own element. She swung through the cavern effortlessly on her webs, a streak of white amidst the chaos.
Her movements were fluid and deadly—each kick, punch, and whip of her webs destroyed the mud soldiers in bursts of flying debris. She was relentless, her webs sticking to the soldiers and pulling them apart like crumbling statues before they could regroup.
'Ah, she's wearing that sexy, skin-tight, spider-suit. Erik surely used his imagination well, didn't he?' Wanda nodded as she noticed Cindy's beautiful form.
Well, in truth, it wasn't 'his' imagination. He just drew what he remembered from his previous life. Among various female versions of spiderman, Silk was definitely quite famous. And also, he didn't even sew it. The Chitauri did.
The stealth ship was also at work, it hovered at a relatively safe distance, its cannons firing streams of glowing laser bullets into the horde of enemies below.
Not long after Wanda arrived, a cluster of the earthen beings broke off from the swarm chasing Erik and Cindy and turned their focus toward them.
'Oh, fuck that!' Wanda cursed.
She spun, creating a barrier of crimson magic just in time to block a group of soldiers leaping at her. The creatures slammed into the energy wall and exploded into dust, but Wanda felt the strain.
Just then, Cindy's voice crackled in Wanda's earpiece, cheerful and almost teasing despite the chaos. "Oh, Wanda! You're here."
Wanda nodded, "Yeah, any specific orders for me or should I just cull their overwhelming numbers for now?"
'But this much doesn't seem like something that you guys won't be able to handle.' She thought, 'But something's off, why isn't Erik using Beelzebuth or his Undead Army? He isn't the type to waste time.'
Instead of thinking more, Wanda just asked the question through her earpiece, "Erik, why aren't you using Beelzebuth?"
"Well, that's the thing, darling. It's not that I aren't using it, it's I'm unable to use it. '!" Erik replied, his tone strained. "Something's blocking a few of my powers!"
Wanda frowned, a sinking feeling settling in her chest. "Why? What's causing it?"
Erik grunted as he dodged a cluster of Ego's soldiers riding on earthen pillars. His enhanced reflexes and Spider-Sense were working overtime, allowing him to twist and flip through the air with inhuman agility.
"It's probably what Mantis was talking about earlier, that 'thing' that had invaded Ego's mind," he admitted, landing a blow on one of the charging soldiers.
His punch connected with a sickening crunch, the sheer force from the muscles that had titan cells in them sent the golem flying backward, smashing into a wall and disintegrating on impact.
The shockwave from the punch rippled outward, creating a tornado-like effect that scattered the nearby soldiers like ragdolls. Erik straightened, his blue eyes glowing faintly as he scanned the battlefield.
Cindy chimed in, "It just means we have no choice but to kill Ego here and now. No holding back. But Erik, I'm getting kinda overwhelmed here."
"I'm heading over to you then," Erik replied as he grabbed a soldier's face with his whole hand.
As a swarm of soldiers neared him, he suddenly removed his hand from the soldier and shot himself away from him.
Just then the soldier who was touched by Erik, like a time bomb, exploded, taking out the swarm along with him.
This was Gambit's ability. Once again a really handy skill.
Well, Erik could have just charged him with explosive energy with his telekinesis, but using physical touch just amplifies the destructive power multiple folds.
All mutants' powers got upgraded after merging with Titan cells and Gamit's powers even linked up with his telekinesis when he ingrained this skill into his body.
As Erik shot across the chaotic battlefield, weaving effortlessly through the rain of debris and advancing soldiers his Spider-Sense flared again as another earthen pillar launched toward him, but he spun midair, dodging it easily.
His blue eyes glowed red, a beam shot out and destroyed the golem that tried to his path.
He looked at Cindy, who was mid-swing, surrounded by a dense swarm of soldiers.
'She's handling herself well, but that's just too many,' Erik thought grimly, clenching his fists as energy rippled through his body. 'Besides, I too have asked to not use her most powerful abilities yet.'
He propelled himself toward her, dodging another cluster of pillars that erupted from the ground beneath him.
Cindy landed gracefully on a nearby rock ledge, her web-slingers firing in rapid succession to hold off the advancing horde. Her movements were swift and calculated, but even she couldn't keep up with the endless wave of Ego's creations.
Right now, she also couldn't summon her giant spiders, since if she summoned them she wouldn't have the energy to be able to use her fate-sealing webs after. Erik told her that he might need those reality-altering webs later.
Erik reached her in a flash, landing beside her with a sharp gust of air.
Without warning, he wrapped an arm firmly around her waist, pulling her close.
Cindy let out a surprised yelp, her cheeks flushing under her mask.
"Erik!" she exclaimed, the teasing edge in her voice barely masking her nervous laugh. "A little warning next time?"
Well, her spider senses don't buzz for friends and Erik is faster than her reflexes, so she was kinda surprised.
"Sorry, no time for pleasantries," Erik replied, his tone clipped.
His focus was razor-sharp, and there wasn't a trace of romantic intent in his actions, at least not right now.
This was a battlefield, not a moment for romance.
Despite herself, Cindy felt a flutter in her chest at the sudden closeness.
He had hugged her so tightly that her whole back was pressed against him. She liked his touch more than she cared to admit. She even rubbed her ass on his crotch unconsciously, but she quickly shook off the thought. 'Focus, Cindy. Not the time, you pervert!'
'I feel warm... Wait, this is a bit too warm!' Cindy sweated.
Well, Erik had used Pyrokinesis to create a warm barrier to protect Cindy from what was to come next.
His free hand crackled with energy as he summoned his cryokinesis powers.
"Hold on," he said simply.
Cindy barely had time to nod before Erik thrust his free hand outward, sending a wave of freezing energy into the ground.
Massive spikes of ice erupted in every direction, piercing through the advancing soldiers with brutal efficiency. The earthen creatures shattered on impact, reduced to nothing but crumbling debris.
The battlefield around them transformed into a frozen wasteland, jagged icicles standing as silent sentinels where soldiers had once been.
Cindy stared in awe as Erik methodically cleared their immediate vicinity.
"You really know how to make an entrance," Cindy said, half-joking as she caught her breath.
Erik didn't respond, his eyes scanning the battlefield for the next threat. "Stay close. Seven minutes until the Chitauri arrive. We need to hold out until then."
Cindy nodded, her usual playfulness replaced by steely determination. She reloaded her web-shooters, her gaze fierce.
"Let's give them hell."
With Erik's icy fortress surrounding them, the two prepared to face another wave of Ego's army.
