Two men and one woman stood there. Although dressed in police uniforms, their demeanor and aura had none of the qualities of law enforcement. Instead, they resembled beasts poised to tear their target apart at any moment.
"Hah, just one? How boring," the woman among them said indifferently. Her pupils gradually elongated into thin slits. Glancing around, she licked her fingers like a cat before adding, "Come on, stop hiding. Show yourself."
Silence...
Ricky crouched slightly, white mist swirling around his body as he readied himself to charge.
When no one appeared, the woman sniffed the air twice but detected no other scents.
"Is it really just one person?"
She frowned and muttered under her breath. Just as she was about to say more, a car sped toward them from behind and screeched to a halt.
Even in the dead of night, this remote road occasionally saw passing vehicles.
"What's wrong with you? Blocking the road in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"
The driver leaned out of the window, shouting curses, and honked twice in frustration.
One of the men turned around expressionlessly. His arm stretched and morphed into a sharp blade, which he swung down hard at the car's hood.
Clang!
The harsh sound of metal echoed as a deep gash appeared on the hood. The driver's eyes widened in terror as he quickly pulled his head back into the car, screaming while reversing frantically to flee.
The woman waved dismissively at the blade-armed man and said, "Take care of him, Geary."
Geary nodded silently. Just as Ricky's legs shattered the ground beneath him and he launched himself toward them, Geary's arm elongated and transformed into a spear. He charged forward to meet Ricky.
The two collided violently.
Clang!
A sharp metallic sound rang out as sparks flew from the impact.
Geary's eyes narrowed as his hands, forced apart by the collision, trembled. When Ricky rammed into him, Geary's body hardened like steel, but the impact sent him flying backward.
Ricky paused briefly before charging toward the woman.
The other man, who had been standing silently by the woman, stepped forward without expression. A white bone spike emerged from the back of his hand, piercing through his flesh as he advanced.
Meanwhile, Geary adjusted his position mid-air after being flung away. As he landed, his legs transformed, scraping the ground and sending sparks flying. Then, with a sudden spring, he propelled himself toward Ricky, his blade-like legs slashing downward.
At that moment, two red energy beams suddenly materialized, striking the bone-spiked man's chest. The force hurled him backward, leaving a scorched wound as the beams adjusted their trajectory to continue targeting his chest.
Clang!
Hellfire's Ricky and Geary collided once again, resuming their fierce battle.
The air shimmered, and Scott and two others materialized in front of them.
"Hiding with an ability, huh?" the woman sneered. Her fingernails elongated into sharp, cat-like claws.
Scott exhaled in relief as he looked at the enemies. "Good, we've dealt with one already."
The two Hellfire members with him nodded in agreement.
"No, he's not dead!"
One of the male Hellfire members frowned, watching as the bone-spiked man stood up again. His wounds began to heal, with fresh flesh rapidly regenerating. Stepping forward, he said, "I'll handle him."
As he spoke, a duplicate of himself emerged from behind, followed by another and another, until six copies stood alongside him.
Scott turned to the cat-like woman, ready to speak, but the female Hellfire member beside him smirked and said, "I'll take care of her."
With a snap of her fingers, her body vanished like a mirage, reappearing beside the feline woman in the next instant.
The cat-like woman swiped at the figure beside her, but her hand passed through empty air. She muttered, "An illusion? Or light manipulation?"
A gunshot rang out, and a bullet pierced the feline woman's body.
Unfazed, she smirked as her wound healed rapidly, then leapt toward the source of the gunfire.
Seeing the enemies engaged, Scott quickly approached the prison transport vehicle.
Suddenly, he froze. Four figures emerged from another police car, and he muttered, "I knew it wouldn't be that easy."
As the words left his mouth, his ruby quartz glasses glowed dangerously. When the four figures charged at him, a powerful beam burst forth, reducing the police car to fragments.
Boom!
A deafening explosion erupted as flames rolled outward, scattering the swirling snow in all directions.
The battle had fully erupted.
Inside the prison transport, however, Raven's face darkened with dread.
She knew these enemies were not the only ones they would face. If this continued, Scott and his team would soon face the risk of defeat or even capture.
As the thought of Essex crossed her mind, Raven's heart sank further.
"Shh!"
Erwin raised a finger to his lips, gesturing for silence. He smiled at Raven and said, "Let's see if there are more fish to catch."
Meanwhile, several hundred meters away, on the rooftop of a nearby building, Mike watched the fierce battle through his binoculars, his brows furrowing deeply.
Hellfire sent only this handful of people?
Though the fight seemed evenly matched at the moment—and the presence of White King Cyclops added significant firepower—Mike knew the truth. There were still several mutants locked inside the prison transport. If they joined the battle, the Hellfire team would be in serious danger.
"Wait, is that…?"
Mike's eyes narrowed sharply.
He spotted someone using shadows to attack and defend—someone he had eliminated nine years ago.
Shadow?!
Mike was absolutely certain he had taken down that person back then. So, what was this? A clone?
Or could it be that the Shadow he had killed was a clone all along?
Essex's clones?
Mike immediately thought of Shadow's master—Mister Sinister.
So, was the group that captured Raven working for Mister Sinister?
The thought of that ancient monster made Mike's head ache.
Sinister, who had lived for an unknown amount of time, was not only powerful but undoubtedly kept hidden trump cards. He was exactly the kind of enemy Mike hated the most.
But if there was no other choice…
Mike muttered to himself as he continued observing the battle.
At this point, Scott had already managed to take down three enemies with his formidable abilities, shifting the tide of battle in his favor. If he could eliminate just one more, nothing would stand in his way of rescuing Raven.
But as that thought crossed his mind, two more figures stepped out of the prison transport.
One of them was a man with eerie blue eyes and sclera, his eye sockets adorned with intricate blue markings. Mike recognized him immediately—an old "acquaintance" from the past: Dio, the Spatial Manipulator.
The other was a woman named Miranda, the Mental Manipulator. Her face bore strange patterns, and her eyes remained shut as though in a trance.
The sight of the two made Scott want to slap himself.
With a quick glance, he incinerated the last remaining enemy from the police car with his fiery gaze. Then, turning to face the approaching Spatial and Mental Manipulators, he mockingly beckoned them with his finger.
Miranda let out a cold laugh, and an invisible wave of mental force surged toward Scott's mind.
For a brief moment, Scott's mind went blank, and a thin trail of blood trickled from his nose.
