A few minutes later, Carol and Talos finished their conversation and fell silent.
In short, due to the Kree invasion, war broke out between them and the Skrulls. The Skrulls suffered greatly—their home was seized, and their people were scattered across the galaxy.
In this war, the Kree were the aggressors, while the Skrulls were the victims. As a Kree scientist, Mar-Vell believed the war was unjust. She secretly sheltered many Skrulls on Earth, assuming the identity of Dr. Wendy Lawson and founding Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S.. Using the Tesseract as an energy core, she worked on developing a lightspeed engine to help the Skrulls find a new home.
Eventually, the lightspeed engine was completed. However, during a test flight with Carol, the Kree discovered them. Their fighter was shot down, Mar-Vell was killed, and Carol—caught in the explosion—absorbed the energy of the engine, knocking her unconscious.
When she woke up, she was already on Hala, the Kree homeworld. With no memory of her past, she was made a Kree warrior and became a member of Starforce.
It wasn't until this mission brought her back to Earth that she regained her lost memories.
After hearing Talos's story and recalling her conversations with Mar-Vell, Carol finally understood the Skrulls' plight. Remembering the words of the woman she respected most, she resolved to help them retrieve the Tesseract and find a new home.
Talos had obtained a series of numbers, assuming it was Earth coordinates that needed decoding to locate Mar-Vell's secret laboratory. However, the numbers were actually state vectors, used for tracking an object's orbit and velocity—meaning the laboratory was not on Earth at all, but orbiting the planet.
The Tesseract was inside that space lab, and they had to retrieve it quickly. The Kree Starforce, including Carol's former comrades, were already on their way to Earth, and they wanted the Tesseract just as badly.
"We need to move fast—Yon-Rogg will be here any minute."
Carol's words brought a heavy silence over the group.
Nick Fury spoke up first. "Then our first priority is getting a ship to take us into space."
Talos nodded. "My people can modify one of your aircraft."
Charles raised a curious eyebrow. "Wait, green-skinned uncle, how did you even get to Earth? Where's your ship?"
Talos glanced at Carol.
Carol, looking slightly uncomfortable, averted her gaze. Seeing Nick Fury's unimpressed expression, she let out a small huff and muttered, "At the time, they were still my enemies."
The room fell silent.
"Alright," Mike clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention. He spoke firmly, "If you're done discussing, then get moving!"
Talos and Carol nodded in agreement. However, Nick Fury, looking tense, blurted out, "Wait—you're not coming with us?"
"Why would I?" Mike replied flatly.
"Because…" Fury's expression turned almost pitiful. "I feel safer when you're around. You're just so damn reliable."
"Get lost!" Mike pointed at the door. "Now!"
"Hahaha!"
The group burst into laughter.
Just then, Clark gently tugged on Mike's sleeve and whispered in his ear, "Dad, there's a spaceship approaching us—fast."
Mike's expression darkened.
Already?!
He should have forced these people to leave sooner!
Sweeping his gaze over to Nick Fury, Mike's eye twitched slightly. The reason was now obvious.
Yon-Rogg had been tracking Carol, and she and Fury had wasted too much time searching for Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. Had things gone according to the original timeline, they would have found the data at the Air Force base, avoiding the need to come here.
Instead, they took a detour, spending precious time asking for his help, which ultimately gave Yon-Rogg just enough time to arrive on Earth—heading straight for them.
This was all Black King's fault!
If he hadn't suddenly gotten the idea to release a virus at Vandenberg Air Force Base, the facility wouldn't have been destroyed and sealed off. The classified data wouldn't have been relocated, and if the data hadn't been moved, that bastard Nick Fury wouldn't have dragged Carol here.
And if they hadn't come looking for him, all of this trouble wouldn't be happening right now...
A flurry of thoughts raced through Mike's mind, making his head ache. Pressing his fingers against his temples, he turned to Carol, Talos, and Fury and said, "It's too late. A spaceship is about to arrive, and if I had to guess, I'd say it's your friend Yon-Rogg."
Talos stiffened. Carol's lips curled into a cold smirk, while Nick Fury jumped like he'd been electrocuted.
"What do we do? What do we do? Should we just take a plane and run?!" Fury blurted out.
Carol shot him a look. "You think you can outrun a spaceship?"
She was confident she could handle Yon-Rogg—but...
Carol hesitated for a moment before saying, "Yon-Rogg himself isn't difficult to deal with, but he has an Accuser fleet behind him. They can send reinforcements at any time."
That was the real problem.
Nick Fury instinctively turned to look at Mike. Talos and Carol, as if realizing something at the same time, also looked at him.
Mike frowned. "Why are you all looking at me?"
Fury spoke with absolute certainty. "I know you have a plan."
Mike sighed in exasperation. "I'm not your dad. Stop running to me every time you're in trouble."
Fury immediately responded, "Dad!"
Mike: "…?"
He glared at Fury. "Do you have any shame?"
"Nope!" Fury grinned.
Mike's eye twitched uncontrollably. "I don't have a son like you!"
"Uh…" Talos hesitated before raising his hand. "How about me?"
Mike: "…"
Carol watched the scene unfold, rubbed her temples, and sighed.
What kind of ridiculous teammates do I have?
She turned to Mike. "If you do have a plan, please help us. We'll all owe you a favor."
At her words, all three of them looked at Mike expectantly.
Mike let out a long sigh. "Do I even have a choice?"
Yon-Rogg's target was his home now.
And the truth was, he did have a solution—a very simple one.
Mike's gaze shifted to Charles, who immediately looked back at him. Tapping his forehead, Mike signaled him silently. Charles' eyes brightened as he linked their minds telepathically.
"Dad, do you want me to take care of them?"
Charles' eager voice echoed in Mike's mind.
Mike nodded slightly. "When the time comes, control them—but don't make it obvious."
"Acting?!"
Charles sounded even more excited.
Mike: "Yes. Just follow my lead."
"Got it!"
The moment their conversation ended, a deep rumbling filled the air.
Through the night sky, a Kree spaceship descended, landing just outside Mike's home.
