Chapter 29: Ch. 29 - Norse Elves?
Hi there, my name is Chamberlain Blake, and I'm currently handcuffed with a tree's roots while being led by a bunch of women with bows and spears.
Why does it feel like I'm a naive foreigner being led by a bunch of cannibals back to their tribe?
Well, if the said cannibals are a bunch of slender and pretty ladies, I don't mind being eaten by them. In fact, I might as well eat them too.
It's like an Orgy, but cannibalism. Okay, that sounds a bit dark.
A few minutes of walking later, I finally found myself passing through some sort of barrier, a familiar barrier.
'It's a barrier that not only keeps normal humans away but even weak supernatural beings. Neat.'
The moment we arrived inside the barrier, my breath was quickly taken away by the sight of an enormous tree, ten times bigger than normal.
How come I didn't notice that? Its height alone is enough to gather not only my attention but even the people from the village.
Before I knew it, I am now standing in front of a woman, this time, this woman doesn't wear any masks, proudly showing her beauty and those pointy ears that has been bothering me for a while.
Unlike the others, this one's hair was deep violet, her eyes were light green as it stares back at me.
While I was standing, she was sitting on her throne, that looks more like a simple chair made from the roots of the huge tree behind her.
After a few moments of silence between us, the lady finally broke it off by initiating the conversation.
"…A devil. What is a devil like you doing wandering off in our forest?" She asked.
"Would you believe me if I say that this entire forest is now my property?" I said, watching as anger flashed within her eyes, huge tree behind her brimmed in magical energy, that even I couldn't help but marvel at. Even the ladies who escorted me flared their magical energies.
Speaking of magical energy, I wonder how strong this lady is. Unlike the others, she was sitting on a throne-like chair, as if she's some sort of hidden boss.
With curiosity in my head, I used my magical senses to peer through her magical energy.
Great, it's empty again, like a void.
Note to self, be wary against the supernatural beings whose magical energies can't be sensed.
"How dare you, devil. You all are the same, nothing but a bunch of chaos incarnate beings. I blame your creator, the God of the Bible for bringing your race to life."
"Wait, hold your horses, lady. What do you mean by blaming God about this, and also, don't compare to the rest of the devils, I already said this to your friends behind me, but I'll say it again, I'm not a bad devil." I firmly pressed, seriousness plastered across my face.
"Hoh? Not a bad devil you say? Sure then, I'll humor you, explain to me why you're not a bad devil." Smirking, the purple-haired lady leaned back on her chair and said.
I can't just tell her that I used to be a human who turned into a devil, right? That might just worsen my current situation.
"Well, for starters. I love humans, that's something you won't find from other devils. Second, I've been living amongst the humans for months, I'm sure you're heard of the village just near this forest of yours. Last but not the least, I saved a pair of human family from a vampire a few weeks ago." Hopefully, these three reasons are enough.
"Hm? Vampire?" Suddenly, the purple-haired lady dropped her smirk and shifted around her chair while asking.
"Yes, a vampire, I heard that he's been terrorizing that village for the past few weeks, so I put him out of his misery." I shrugged, as if what I did was a normal thing.
Actually, back in the Marvel Universe, eliminating vampires are also part of the sorcerers' job, it's just a minor one though, not a necessary job since we're more focused on Dimensional and Extraterrestrial threats.
"Can you…describe this vampire to me?" The lady voiced out with a bit of hesitation.
That's weird, why would she be interested of that vampire out of all the things I mentioned?
"No problem. Let's see if I can recall. Long black hair, very messy, pale skin, charred lips, red eyes and pointy ears, more pointy than yours. He was wearing a plain dark robe." The more I explained, the more I can see emotions flashing within the purple-haired lady's eyes.
As soon as I'm done, she closed her eyes.
"…So, what now?" I asked, I'm not liking the silence.
"You are right, you're not a bad devil." At the gesture of her hand, the tree root that has been binding my wrist comes off, slithering away.
"I'm confused. What does a random vampire have to do in proving I'm not a bad devil? I don't mind listening to an explanation."
"That 'random' vampire you've been talking about wasn't just terrorizing the village. But also ours, every week, he would bring a human victim inside our forest, kill them, toy them, staining our forest but we were powerless to deal with him."
So this forest is where that vampire has been bringing his victims every week? But wait, how come they're powerless?
"I'm sorry to interrupt you but powerless? I didn't even sweat when I killed him. Much less someone like you, who is stronger than me."
"You are right, if it was me, I won't also sweat when killing that vampire. The problem is, you see, is the vampire's identity." At the mention of her last sentence, I noticed slight fear emanating from her eyes.
"That vampire is the son of a vampire elder from the Tepes faction. A faction of powerful vampires, currently the dominating force among the Vampires even after their former leader, Dracula's death."
'What is this cultivation thing bullshit?'
"So you're telling me, is that you are afraid of provoking the Tepes faction?" I received a nod as a response however I sensed a 'but' coming.
"Yes, but that's not the only reason. If we still have the support of our Queen, there's no reason for us to be afraid of a meren leaderless vampire faction."
"What do you mean? Were you exiled from your Kingdom?"
"Before I answer your question. Allow me to introduce myself, to avoid confusion." The purple-haired lady stood, before continuing.
"My name is Sylphie Greenwood, the former princess of Elfheim, me and my friends performed a very dangerous expedition that could've caused not only war with another realm, but also lose the protection of the wise God-King Odin. Hence, my mother, the Queen, decided to exile me and my friends, and shall only come back after I learned my lesson."
'So in other words, you're like Thor from Marvel?' I resisted the urge to show my lips quivering at the irony of the situation.
So the multiverse decided to fuck up and make the princess of Elfheim experience the fate of Thor instead of Thor himself?
"So during your exile, you decided to settle in this forest?" I asked and received a nod in return.
"And because you no longer have the protection of your momm- I'm sorry, your mother, you can't afford to be reckless anymore and cause your already worst situation to worsen?" In which once again, Sylphie nodded in response.
Well, look at that, at least she's better than Thor during exile.
"Indeed. That's why I'm grateful for what you did, though I am also sorry for what it about to come to you." Sylphie then casted me an apologetic look, mixed with pity.
Hey hey, why are you looking at me as if I'm already a dead man? I'm still alive you know!
"Don't worry about it. Knowing those Vampires, the moment Dracula died, they became nothing but a bunch of cowards. Devils might be hated by the entire world but that doesn't mean we're easy to be picked on." I smirked confidently, yeah I know it's kind of weird to be proud of my race as a devil.
"I see. I'm glad. It seems like you're truly not a bad devil." I saw a smile on Sylphie's face, captivating my eyes for a moment.
"May I know your name? You've saved us from such trouble, I feel obliged to know the name of our benefactor."
"Chamber, just Chamber." Of course, it would be rude to not do such simple thing.
"Chamber. Such a name. For doing us such favour, you may ask me of anything in the future. As long as it is within my capabilities." Ohh? A favor from the future Queen of Elfheim?
And besides, I also need to meet with Odin, I have a few questions I would like him to answer.
Questions that might possibly bring me back to my home.
"I appreciate it. As for the favor, I don't want to sound rude but is it possible for me to cash it now?" I awkwardly smiled, watching as Slyphie's face twitched several times, probably annoyed at the fact that I'm asking for the favor right now.
"W-Well, I did say I'll grant you a favour, I wasn't just expecting it to be now. Just so you know, I'm a nobody for now, I have nothing to offer you." I can see her frowning.
"Then I can say the favor now but cash it in the future?"
"Sigh. You may." Sighing in defeat, Sylphie finally gave in.
Finally!
