Chapter 24: CH 24: NPC Dragon
Ragnar, who had just left the conscious space, didn't even have time to open his eyes when he heard his father's angry voice.
"Don't let that damn cow run!" Elliot shouted from a distance.
Ragnar opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was a terrified cow charging towards him.
Ragnar sighed, pushing himself to his feet, his gaze fixed on the charging cow. as he stood up from the grass.
Ragnar's eyes flickered with golden light. His pupils narrowed to slits, and a dangerous golden aura radiated from him.
The cow's eyes widened in terror. Like it sees a terrifying creature in front as it hurriedly slowed down, but before it could turn around, Ragnar was already in front of it.
"Otis, come on, man. If you keep running, Dad's going to leave you in the barn," Ragnar said, patting the cow's head and caressing it gently to calm it down.
"Moooo~" The cow mooed before returning to grazing on the grass. Elliot appeared, running from behind the cow.
"Come on, Otis, let's go," Elliot said, tugging on the rope attached to the cow's neck as he started to walk. He turned to Ragnar. "Help your mother pack," he said seriously.
Ragnar's expression turned dubious. "I think Mom can handle it. She seems pretty excited."
"That's why you're there to stop her. Don't let her take anything we don't need!" Elliot yelled as he pulled the cow towards its herd.
"Why don't you do it?" Ragnar asked, raising a skeptical eyebrow.
"Because I'm going to get beaten. You won't," Elliot shouted, not caring if Sicilia could hear him, as he knew she wasn't around.
"Mom's going to beat you if she hears you say that," Ragnar whispered as he walked into a small shack and began to climb a spiral staircase. He knocked on the ceiling, and it automatically opened as he climbed up, revealing it was inside a suitcase.
'This thing is really worth the information about the Deathly Hallows,' Ragnar thought with a delighted smirk before closing the suitcase.
When Ragnar stood up, he looked around. His room was empty, as everything he owned had already been transferred to the suitcase, even the luxurious bed he got from Sona.
Just as Ragnar began to contemplate everything that had happened since he'd received the Chat Group System, someone mentioned him in the group.
A message notification appeared in his vision.
[Viking Champion]: @Golden Dragon, are you leaving?
Ragnar looked at Astrid's title. Then he looked at his own. One of the changes they'd discovered in the three years they'd spent together in the chat group was that their titles would change with their current status or ability in their respective worlds.
Astrid had become a champion because the Vikings considered her to be one, and he'd become a golden dragon because, well he'd grown up.
[Golden Dragon]: We're about to leave.
[Viking Champion]: It's about damn time.
Astrid stretched, revealing a toned, athletic figure. At the age of thirteen, she possessed a poise and maturity beyond her years, her beauty a captivating blend of otherworldly grace.
Making her undeniably unique, a striking vision that sets her apart from any other teenager in the Berk.
Astrid's eyes, a vibrant sky blue, sparkled with amusement, and her lips curved into a knowing smile.
"Just a bit more, maybe, and we'll show him who's the stronger dragon, right?" Astrid said with a smile as she patted the black wall behind her. It began to shake, a slight rumble, as if it were responding to her words.
Then the air in the Underground Den became cold
"I'll go first. It's time to show those guys how to hunt a dragon," Astrid said as she rose, but then the black wall began to move, revealing a huge dragon.
The black-scaled dragon with white spikes on its body rose, turning to face Astrid as it breathed snow toward her.
"I'm just joking," Astrid smiled, patting the dragon's nose, who's her partner, friend and finally a family.
"I'm leaving, Skadi. Take care of the little guys. Don't let them out!" Astrid said before she turned around and walked towards the water, where the entrance to the den lay.
When Astrid stopped in front of the water she couldn't help but smile as the water reflected the scenery of the den showing a crystalline ice canvas that shimmered with iridescent colors.
Skadi stared at Astrid's back before its eyes dilated as it signaled the other dragons.
Then suddenly five Terrible Terrors suddenly flew towards Astrid, tackling her to the ground and covering her body as they lay on her.
"Really, Skadi? How mature," Astrid said, pushing a Terrible Terror's tail away from her face.
[Beast Tamer]: Congratulations, Ragnar. You can finally do some missions.
Luna beamed, lying on her bed, kicking her feet in the air but now she was dressed in a Hogwarts uniform because today was her first day of school.
"Looks like Ragnar's going on an adventure. We should go too after this school year, don't you think, Sparky?" Luna asked, looking towards the phoenix perched beside her.
Sparky let out a cry and flew from its nest to Luna's side, rubbing its head against her cheek.
[Golden Dragon]: Thank you, Luna. And thanks for upgrading the RV I sent you.
[Golden Dragon]: Make sure you make new friends at school.
After replying, Ragnar showed a bittersweet smile as he opened the Chat Group Upgrade conditions.
[Omniverse Chat Group System Upgrade]
[Golden Dragon 1/5]
[Beast Tamer 3/5]
[Shitori Sona 4/5]
[Heir of Body Sect 5/5]
[Viking Champion 3/5]
Ragnar felt a pang of disappointment as he looked at the numbers of their completed missions, seeing only one next to his own name. He was the only one who hasn't completed another mission in three years.
'Let's just hope I get good luck on this trip,' Ragnar thought. His family was about to travel the world, planning to find a safe place to permanently stay while helping him accomplish a mission and enjoying their time.
"If not, we'll just continue sending quests to the others," Ragnar sighed weakly, shaking his head and closing the system.
Although he hadn't received any mission rewards like the others, Ragnar had benefited when he shared information that led to missions for other group members.
The Chat Group System rewarded him, too, but the rewards weren't as substantial as what the others received.
The best things he'd received were the Martial Soul awakening from Huo Yuhao and the Magic Core from Luna, both rewards for completing Major Destiny missions.
The rewards he received were also based on the type of mission the others completed. Some normal Destiny missions had resulted in Ragnar receiving items from their worlds.
Over the past three years, Ragnar had felt like an NPC, sending out quests to the others when they asked for information.
'Well, they shouldn't blame me after that,' Ragnar thought before shaking his head, ready to find his mother. He was worried she might be moving useless things.
If Ragnar had a choice, he wouldn't even want to travel. He wanted to get stronger, from training the martial arts skill he got from Huo Yuhao and studying the magical book he got from Luna or Sona and at the same time he could trade information to his fellow group members while being rewarded by the system when they completed the missions.
That would have been enough until the time came when he could easily do missions himself.
However, that had stopped after Huo Yuhao completed his fifth mission. Huo Yuhao had stopped receiving rewards, and the mission log on his side had disappeared.
At first, no one wanted to believe it.
After all, no one wanted to believe that the extraordinary Chat Group System had a limit of only five missions. But they couldn't do anything but accept it.
They thought about upgrading the Chat Group System, so the pressure had fallen on Ragnar who hasn't completed any mission for three years.
Now, the real goal of his family's travels was to help him complete missions.
"Mom, Mom, stop what you're doing!" Ragnar called out, holding a flying oven. It was heavy, but easy for Ragnar, who was a dragon.
"I was about to send it to your suitcase," Sicilia said with a smile. She looked towards the dishwasher, wondering if she should send that, too.
"Okay, Mom, stop for a second," Ragnar said. He set the oven on the table and put a hand on his mother's shoulder.
"What?" Sicilia asked, confused, turning to face Ragnar. A smile spread across her face, and she stroked his cheek. "Look at you, becoming so big," she whispered lovingly.
Ragnar was taller than kids his age, which made Sicilia feel a little melancholy. 'Damn Elliot,' she thought, blaming her husband for the reason her son was a dragon.
"Our oven and dishwasher run on electricity. No human technology can work inside the suitcase, remember?" Ragnar said, taking his mother's hand away from his cheek.
"I forgot," Sicilia sighed, looking around with a touch of melancholy. "I just couldn't believe we were really leaving."
"It's good to see the world, don't you think so?" Ragnar said with a grin, shaking his mother's hands to take her attention away from the dishwasher.
"I know, but..." Sicilia nodded before sighing, her gaze turning serious. "But why do we still have to take care of cows?"
Ragnar paused, trying to formulate the right words, but they seemed to slip through his fingers. Ragnar then shared a look with his mother as they both started laughing.
"Dad couldn't leave the animals behind. He couldn't even sell them," Ragnar shook his head in amusement, remembering how Elliot had pleaded with Sicilia to take the animals with them.
"He better make sure he doesn't smell before bed, otherwise he's sleeping with Otis," Sicilia said, shaking her head as she turned to continue what she was doing.
Ragnar seeing this hurriedly held her in place.
"How about you go help Dad, and I'll be the one checking and moving the things we actually need," Ragnar said hurriedly, knowing his mother was about to start bringing things they don't need again.
Ragnar deployed his ultimate weapon to distract her: giving up his father. "And Dad said you're too noisy, that's why I'm the one here, helping you. Otherwise, you'd beat him."
Scilla turned swiftly, her eyes filled with fierceness. "Did he really say that?" she whispered.
Ragnar opened his mouth, about to say it was a joke, knowing his father was going to suffer, but he just nodded in agreement.
"Make sure you put anything we could still use," Sicilia said, rushing upstairs, ready to teach her husband a lesson. She stretched her arms as she climbed the stairs.
Ragnar offered a silent prayer for his father's well-being, hoping he'd survive.
Ragnar then looked around, knowing his mission for now was to make sure he didn't leave anything useful behind.
