Marvel: Death Knight

Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Naxxramas, the Sky Fortress

"Stryker!" Logan suddenly bolted upright from the bed, shouting. His back was drenched in sweat, the memory of that figure in his dream stirring a hatred he could never forget.

Looking around, he realized he was in a room—likely somewhere in Hell's Kitchen.

Recalling the events that had led him here, he instinctively touched the wounds on his body, only to find them completely healed. A wave of relief washed over him. Losing his regenerative abilities had been a nightmare.

"Logan, you're awake!" As he descended the stairs, Logan saw Wanda, Pietro, and the students from X Academy gathered in the courtyard. Thankfully, none of them seemed seriously injured.

"Where's Garus?" Logan scanned the area, looking for Garus. This was his home, and he was the only one capable of saving them.

Pietro took another swig from a can of beer and replied, "He's back at his company. Said he's working on rebuilding X Academy."

Garus stood atop the Azeroth Technology Tower, gazing out over the cityscape, deep in thought about how to reconstruct X Academy. It couldn't be as vulnerable as before, easily destroyed by a single attack.

There was also Baron Zemo, who had mastered the gene-suppressing serum. Zemo had to be eliminated, or mutants would remain powerless in the face of their enemies.

Initially, Garus had planned to rebuild the academy on its original grounds. However, he remembered he currently had 111,000 exchange points. That was more than enough to redeem the construction technology and materials for Naxxramas.

Yes, the floating fortress from Azeroth lore.

Building such a structure above Earth, however, presented a unique challenge. With satellites monitoring the skies, it would require reflective cloaking technology similar to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s helicarriers.

Fortunately, the Skrulls possessed similar technology, and Garus was confident they'd be "willing" to share it.

"Redeem construction technology for Naxxramas," he commanded.

A crystalline shard, containing knowledge, materialized from the void. The transaction cost him 50,000 exchange points.

But acquiring the technology was only the beginning. Constructing Naxxramas would consume a significant number of exchange points to purchase materials not found in the Marvel universe. By his estimation, he'd need another 50,000 points.

"System, how do I use this?" Garus held the crystal, unsure of what to do next.

"Place the memory crystal against your brow. The knowledge will transfer directly into your mind," the system replied.

"And that's enough to learn how to construct the Sky Fortress?"

"No. You'll need to comprehend the knowledge."

Placing the crystal against his forehead, Garus felt a flood of information surge into his mind. The sheer volume overwhelmed him. Much of it—alchemy, magical arrays—was beyond his understanding. He was, after all, merely a death knight.

"Perhaps Dr. Wim could make sense of this," he mused. "This kind of knowledge is essentially another branch of science."

Turning to his assistant, he ordered, "Kingpin, summon Dr. Wim to the rooftop."

Moments later, Dr. Wim appeared, visibly anxious. "What is it, boss?"

Garus handed him the crystal. "Place this against your brow."

Wim hesitated, eyeing the crystal warily.

"What are you waiting for?" Garus' tone was firm. He knew Wim feared him and likely thought the crystal might harm him.

Steeling himself, Wim pressed the crystal to his forehead. Instantly, a torrent of knowledge flooded his mind. The information—magical arrays for levitation, spatial transportation, skeletal constructs, necromantic wards—was unlike anything he had ever encountered. It felt as though an entirely new world had opened before him.

However, understanding this new knowledge would require time. "Boss, I'll need at least six months to grasp this fully," Wim admitted after a moment of thought. "That's the fastest I can manage."

Six months. Garus frowned. That was far too long. He needed someone with an innate understanding of magic to accelerate the process.

"Fine," he relented. "In the meantime, focus on this. Delegate your current projects to the other researchers."

Wim hesitated. "Boss, our weather weapon—the Lightning Storm Project—is near completion. I can't just walk away now."

"Lightning Storm?" Garus raised an eyebrow. Could it be similar to the superweapon from his past life's Red Alert game?

Wim's face lit up with enthusiasm. "Yes! Using the lightning generator you provided, we've been experimenting with harnessing natural lightning. If successful, we'll be able to unleash large-scale, devastating attacks—"

"Enough!" Garus interrupted. Wim could ramble endlessly about his projects. "Finish your research. I'll find someone else for the fortress."

After Wim left, Garus's thoughts turned to Wanda. As a sorceress, she might be able to understand and absorb the knowledge faster.

Back at the villa, Logan was awake, and the students from X Academy were all gathered. Without their school, they had nowhere else to go for the time being.

"Rebuilding X Academy will take time," Garus announced. "For now, you'll stay here."

Seeing their dejected expressions, Garus added, "You're free to go out, but don't cause trouble. If you meet other mutants, bring them here."

The students cheered. Despite the safety of their temporary refuge, they were eager to explore the outside world. They couldn't understand why adults feared and hated them so much.

"Garus." Logan approached, throwing an arm around Garus's shoulders. "What about Stryker? I saw him earlier."

"Stryker? He's dead."

Logan's mood improved slightly. Even if this wasn't his world's Colonel Stryker, it was still satisfying to know one of them had been dealt with.

"Wanda," Garus called out, stopping the Scarlet Witch before she could leave. Handing her the crystal, he said, "This contains the knowledge needed to build our new academy. I hope you can master it quickly."
