Chapter 248
Alex Ray opened the Bond interface and began carefully examining its features.
After a minute or two, he finally understood the system's instructions and sighed.
"Isn't this just a card collecting game? These bonds… these attribute boosts. At least I don't have to spend money to pull cards."
The Bond system resembled a Marvel-themed hero collector game. Alex could activate corresponding bonds by linking with family members or allies he already knew.
Once a bond was activated, those members would receive attribute boosts, and some even unlocked unique combo skills.
Looking at the rows of potential bonds, Alex found himself intrigued. He had already unlocked a small number of them.
He tapped one at random to examine its details.
[First-Generation Avengers (One Star): Iron Man (family), Captain America (one star), Hulk (three stars), Hawkeye (one star), Black Widow (two stars), Thor (family)]
[Bond Effect: Activates when two or more Avengers appear on the same team, increasing each member's combat power by 5%. For each additional member, the bonus increases by 1%. Damage received is evenly distributed across all bonded members.]
[Note: This is where the dream began. Avengers, assemble!]
Alex furrowed his brow as he read through the description. He'd realized this Bond system was meant to boost the combat effectiveness of those close to him. The system likely feared his friends and family would be left behind and thus gifted them with epic enhancements.
But Alex wasn't left out. For each bond he completed, he would earn 50 Friend Points, and when the bond reached full stars, he could gain a Family Point.
The bond's star level was based on the depth of his relationship with the individuals, with the highest being six stars.
To see the full effect, Alex opened a maxed-out bond.
[Three Spider-Men in One Frame (Full Stars): Garfield's Spider-Man (full stars), Holland's Spider-Man (full stars), Tobey's Spider-Man (full stars)]
[Bond Special Effect: When all three Spider-Men are present on the field, combat power increases by 30%, defense increases by 20%, and chatterbox level increases by 40%.]
[Exclusive Skill – Three Spiders Combined!: When all three are present, any two Spider-Men can channel all their strength into the third, increasing that Spider-Man's combat power by 300% for 2.5 minutes. Cooldown: 2.5 days.]
[Note: With great power comes great responsibility. Three Spider-Men, three Uncle Bens. Seeing them together—do you feel that surge of youthful nostalgia?]
Alex's first reaction was simple: overpowered. A 300% boost—even with just one Spider-Man active—was insane.
Still, his expression turned slightly awkward when he saw the skill's duration and cooldown time. Two and a half minutes? Was the system a fan of certain... "adult entertainment" metaphors?
And that chatterbox buff... Alex could already imagine how chaotic it would be with all three Spider-Men talking simultaneously—especially the Holland version. He might literally talk enemies to death.
He also noticed that only full-star bonds had exclusive skills, and not all of them even then. Some bonds were more passive, just offering stat enhancements.
Scanning through his collection, Alex found a few other notable bonds:
[Wanda Siblings]
[X-Men]
[Wolverine and Deadpool]
[The King and His Family]
[Sorcerer Supreme]
[Professor X and Magneto]
Most of these were smaller, with two or three members, and few had exclusive skills. However, one caught his attention.
[Professor X and Magneto (Two Stars): Magneto (full stars), Professor X (two stars)]
[Bond Effect: When both appear in the same camp, the promotion success rate for mutants under their command increases by 7%. All mutants on the field gain a 5% combat power boost. There is also a chance that unaffiliated mutants will rebel and join the cause.]
[Note: Two leaders of mutantkind—lifelong friends and lifelong adversaries. Representing light and shadow, their shared devotion to mutant futures endures.]
This was the first bond Alex had seen that worked outside of direct combat. In the mutant world, leveling up was incredibly difficult—many never broke past their initial power tier. Yet this bond hinted at accelerating their growth. Even at 7%, it was a major advantage. As the bond leveled up, the chance would likely grow even higher.
Alex felt a sudden itch—an urge to collect more "stamps." He quickly browsed through bonds close to activation.
[Sinister Six (can eventually evolve to Sinister Twelve): Doctor Octopus (full stars), Lizard (full stars), Vulture (full stars), Sandman (full stars), Green Goblin (full stars), Mysterio, Rhino, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Mr. Negative, Venom…]
Seeing this, Alex couldn't help but imagine assembling this entire chaotic roster and dumping them into Hell's Kitchen Community College. What would little Peter Parker do when faced with his entire rogue's gallery as professors?
He found even more:
[Defenders Alliance]
[Fantastic Four]
[Avengers]
[The Illuminati]
[Young Avengers]
[The Fearsome Four]
[Ultimate Avengers]
[Spider-Society]
And then, some uniquely themed bonds stood out:
[See You in One Minute: Black Widow (one star), Hawkeye (one star)]
[Bond Effect: When both are on the field, dodge rate increases by 5%. If one dies, the other gains a permanent 1000% strength boost.]
[Note: "I waited countless minutes… but never saw you again."]
Of course, Alex knew the origin of that line. Black Widow sacrificed herself to obtain the Soul Stone. While she wasn't exactly one of his favorites, Alex respected her decision. That moment had left an undeniable mark.
He continued browsing bonds tied to iconic lines:
[I am Groot!]
[I am Iron Man!]
[Don't Call Me Raccoon]
[On Your Left]
[Love You 3000]
[For You, For All of Us]
Each line brought a surge of emotion. They weren't just quotes—they were memories. Memories of battles, sacrifices, farewells. To Alex, they weren't just nostalgic—they were sacred.
