Watching Spider-Man 2099's silhouette fade into the distance, a faint smile appeared on Alex Ray's lips.
The appearance of Spider-Man 2099 had indeed caught him off guard.
Originally, his goal was simple—enter the universe of Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, extract Dr. Curt Connors (the Lizard), have him teach in Hell's Kitchen, and get those lazy tenants to stop wasting time.
And while he was at it, save the doomed Spider-Man.
However, events had spiraled far beyond his expectations, unexpectedly involving the Spider-Society's base.
While the Spider-People might not be the most powerful ensemble compared to other hero teams, their sheer numbers significantly boosted their combat effectiveness.
Alex understood very well that in the vast multiverse, only a few forces could gather variants of the same hero from across realities.
Besides the Council of Kangs, the Council of Reeds, and the wildcard Deadpool, most organizations—like the Avengers led by Sorcerer Supreme Loki—only assembled cross-universe Avengers.
In Alex's estimation, there might even exist a legendary peak version of Spider-Man within the Spider-Society: Captain Universe Spider-Man.
This ultimate version of Spider-Man not only inherited the abilities of the previous Captain Universe but also held the "Enigma Force" within Eternity's body. His power approached multiversal levels, even rivaling beings like Galactus.
Alex knew full well that he was nowhere near powerful enough to face Captain Universe Spider-Man.
Still, he suspected that such a version didn't currently exist in the Spider-Society.
If he did, there's no way Spider-Man 2099 would be the one calling the shots. That role would naturally fall to the strongest of them all.
But Alex wasn't disappointed. On the contrary, he saw this as a chance.
Maybe, just maybe, by leveraging the Spider-Society's infrastructure, he could track down Captain Universe Spider-Man. If he could convince the strongest Spider-Man to ally with him, it would vastly increase his odds in a future confrontation with the Council of Kangs.
Crucially, the top members of the Spider-Society could traverse multiverses using just their watches, unlike Alex's personal skills, which still had unknown limitations when it came to summoning more allies.
Alex didn't even dare imagine how awesome it would be to summon allies from both Hell's Kitchen and the Spider-Society when the Kang Dynasty launched its assault on the main universe.
That's why, to Alex, integrating with the Spider-Society was a vital piece of the puzzle. Of course, he had no intention of sticking around forever or taking command. He was more than happy letting Miguel O'Hara (Spider-Man 2099) handle that headache.
If this worked, he could even build his own multiversal Hell's Kitchen—an HQ of misfits and underdogs across dimensions. Sure, the residents were mostly regular folks, but that made them all the more worth protecting.
The thought of it made Alex grind his teeth. No matter the universe or the genre, Hell's Kitchen always got the short end of the stick—treated like a rookie spawn zone ripe for exploitation.
As a proud landlord of Hell's Kitchen, Alex had had enough. He was determined to build the strongest Hell's Kitchen the multiverse had ever seen.
And then there was his real nemesis: the Council of kangs
Even before arriving in this universe, Alex had figured that the next-generation Avengers left in the main timeline probably weren't up to the task of defeating the Council.
After all, Kang the Conqueror had claimed he'd slaughtered countless Avengers across timelines.
That likely explained why Loki, the God of Stories, had come seeking him out.
What shocked Alex even more was discovering that he had landed in the timeline where all three cinematic Spider-Men—Tobey, Andrew, and Tom's versions—existed simultaneously.
A perfect setup to reach out to Doctor Strange for a chat. After all, this universe's Strange was already the Sorcerer Supreme.
There were also other mysteries. Like—why was Tony Stark still alive?
According to Spider-Man 2099, this was the movie universe. Which meant Tony should've snapped his fingers, declared, "I am Iron Man," and died a noble death.
Was it because he'd negotiated a lower salary? Had his financial prowess actually resurrected him?
Alex began to suspect that unknown external forces might be interfering with the timeline's development.
"Could there be other Transmigrator?" he wondered silently.
In any case, his most immediate priority was having the two Spider-Men clean up the chaos left behind by Doctor Strange in this universe.
With that in mind, Alex summoned both Harry Osborn and Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker. He quickly brought them up to speed on everything that had just happened.
After listening intently, Tobey's Peter looked resolute.
"Don't worry, Master," he said firmly. "I'll fix this. I won't let you down."
It was his first real mission under Alex Ray's guidance. Being entrusted with such responsibility meant everything to him.
He was no longer the inexperienced Peter Parker fumbling with his newfound powers.
To protect others like himself—to save more Uncle Bens—he would see this mission through, even if it cost him his life.
Meanwhile, Harry stared at Alex, his expression conflicted.
He looked like he had something important to say but couldn't quite bring himself to speak. His eyes flickered with hesitation and intensity.
Peter noticed and furrowed his brows.
Harry was usually the most enthusiastic whenever they got a new mission. Why the sudden change in demeanor?
After what felt like an eternity of internal conflict, Harry finally summoned the courage to ask the question that had been weighing on him.
Taking a deep breath, he looked straight at Alex and asked quietly, "Mr. Ray… is my father involved this time? Is he the Green Goblin from another universe?"
His voice was low but unwavering, filled with both dread and desperate hope.
He stared into Alex's eyes, searching for the truth.
Alex sighed and nodded slowly, understanding Harry's emotional turmoil.
Harry exhaled deeply, then clenched his fists with renewed determination.
He had his own reasons for joining Peter on this mission.
While Peter was curious about alternate Spider-Men, Harry wanted answers about his father.
The father who had long since vanished from his own universe.
Since learning about the multiverse, Harry had been pushing the Osborn Group to research ways to suppress or eliminate his father's alternate personality—the Green Goblin.
Thanks to Alex's connections, Harry had eventually enlisted the help of Professor X and Tony Stark. Together, they had developed a suppressor: a helmet that could restrain the Goblin persona.
But Harry didn't want containment.
He wanted vengeance.
He knew his father had been a victim—possessed, manipulated—but that didn't erase the trauma he had endured.
Now, he sought justice.
"The Green Goblin is mine, Peter," Harry said in a low, resolute voice. "I'll be the one to end him."
