Marvel Cybernetic Girl

Chapter 18: 18 I’ll Protect Your Back!

The escape plan was going smoothly.

The MKI Iron Man suit, forged with weapon-grade armor, was capable of withstanding all small arms fire. The armed militia of the Ten Commandments gang charged in and then retreated, with no way of dealing with Tony Stark, who was wearing the suit.

Kagura Hitomi's design of the compressed air cannon, combined with the strength from the mechanical arms, made Tony unstoppable. He cut through the waves of militia, easily carving out a path of blood.

It's the palm cannon! Heh!

The Ten Commandments gang, cornered and desperate, tried to seal off Tony by blocking the door with iron gates. But how could something as flimsy as an iron door hold back the mighty MKI Iron Man suit?

With just a few punches, Tony smashed through the door and continued forward, leaving the gang's defenses behind.

Kagura Hitomi was escorting Yinsen, keeping about 10 meters behind Tony. She was staying out of the direct line of fire but sticking closely to the plan as they both made their escape.

However, despite Yinsen's familiarity with the cave, he didn't know all the ins and outs of the Ten Commandments' base. The paths here were intricate, and there were many loops that could easily allow the gang to circle around and attack Tony from behind.

The faint sounds of footsteps, paired with the warning from her holographic UI, alerted Kagura Hitomi.

"It seems they've moved behind us," she said, stopping and turning around. "There are quite a few of them."

Her UI marked the locations of the militia members with red scanning boxes. There were about twelve or thirteen of them.

"What do we do? Should we have Stark turn back?" Yinsen asked, noticing the noise behind them as well.

"No, if we do that, we'll be surrounded," Kagura Hitomi replied. "If Stark starts worrying about us, he might end up in a disadvantageous position in the fight."

She then picked up a weapon that had fallen to the ground. "Yinsen, go stick with Stark. I'll handle this."

"What? No way!" Yinsen immediately refused. "I'm not leaving a girl to escape alone."

"Don't worry," Kagura Hitomi smiled, patting his shoulder. "I have no plans of dying here."

"I can't let you do that! Even if I'm the one to hold them off—"

"Don't underestimate me," she interrupted, her smile turning confident. "I've had military training. You go, now."

Her UI updated, showing the militia's position. The moment they crossed into the combat zone, Kagura Hitomi urged Yinsen again, "Go, I'll be fine. Just make sure you stay safe, too."

Yinsen hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "You have to make it out, or I'll feel guilty for the rest of my life."

"Don't worry, go!" She pushed him forward, urging him to catch up with Tony Stark.

Once Yinsen left, the militia closed in on her.

"Well then..." The silver-haired girl turned, stretching her arms, "I wonder if I can get some QP for killing these thugs."

The militia approached quickly, but Kagura Hitomi remained calm.

She expertly detached a magazine from her gun, checked her ammo, and reloaded. "Hmm, such good weapons, and they're wasting them," she muttered.

[Basic Combat Skills: Activated]

Her "Basic Combat Skills" made her proficient with a variety of weapons. With her intelligence and reconnaissance advantages, her combat ability now rivaled that of special forces.

"Charge! Grab Yinsen and that woman from behind! Then we'll threaten Stark!"

"There she is!"

"Is she alone? Grab her!"

"She has a gun!"

"What?"

"I said, she has—"

Brrraap! Brrraap!

Kagura Hitomi crouched behind a rock, expertly using short bursts to take out the two leading militia members.

"Fire! Shoot her down!"

With a command, seven or eight automatic rifles opened fire. Sparks flew around Kagura Hitomi, and the bullets kicked up dust. Their aim, however, was terrible.

Sigh "I really shouldn't have sold them these advanced weapons," Kagura Hitomi muttered to herself as she waited for a brief lull in the fire. She popped out from behind cover and aimed.

Brrraap!

Two more militia members fell.

"Surround her! She's alone!"

Their gunfire was still way off, but their numbers kept coming.

Kagura Hitomi silently mocked them as she discarded the empty weapon. She took a deep breath and activated her speed boost.

[Short-Term Active Acceleration: Charging]

As the militia began to flank her, her skill charge bar changed from blue to green.

[Short-Term Active Acceleration: Activated]

Her face broke into a sly smile, and in the next instant—

Bang!

She disappeared from her spot.

The resulting sonic boom left the nearest militia members dazed, blood oozing from their ears. They collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Before the others could react, they saw a blur streak past them.

"Wh—!"

Whoosh!

The lead militia member suddenly felt his dagger slip from his belt, only for it to be buried in his chest a moment later.

"Aaaah!"

"Looking for me?" Kagura Hitomi whispered in his ear, the warmth of her breath sending a chill down his spine.

"Pl—please... spare me..." the man stuttered, struggling to speak through his punctured lungs.

"I'm afraid I can't do that."

Kagura Hitomi smiled, her tone playful. "You see, I'm a very stubborn girl."

Crack!

She twisted the dagger, then smoothly pulled it out.

In a flash, she was in front of him, slashing with the blade across his throat.

With a final gasp, the man collapsed, blood pouring from his neck.

"There she is! Open fire!"

As the militia aimed at her, Kagura Hitomi vanished once more.

"What the—?!"

The soldiers fired wildly, but the agile girl was already amongst them, cutting through them like a phantom.

She moved faster than their eyes could follow, using her dagger to silence them one by one.

And as for the guilt of killing them?

Hah. These monsters didn't deserve the title of "human."
