MARVEL -BLACK SPIDERMAN

Chapter 83: Chapter 83: When the Punisher Becomes a Good Person

"Can you find her specific information?" George asked his officer.

"We consulted with Vice Principal Morton of Midtown High School, and he provided us with some details."

The officer continued, "Ms. Helen is a biology teacher who transferred from New Jersey. She is twenty-seven years old, currently single, and this mansion appears to be her private property."

DeWolf interrupted their conversation. "Have you made contact with Ms. Helen?"

"No, we haven't reached her. We couldn't get in touch by phone, and she hasn't shown up at school."

George frowned. "Is she missing?"

"So far, we haven't found any bodies at the scene," the officer replied.

DeWolf scanned the ruined building with sharp eyes. "Should we continue digging through these ruins?"

George remained silent. He had a gut feeling that things weren't as simple as they seemed.

Custer, the newly arrived officer, examined the building in front of him with intense focus. He moved toward a pile of rubble, searching for something. After a few moments, he pulled out a corroded vine. He stared at it thoughtfully, the realization forming in his mind. This scene was becoming increasingly suspicious.

After a moment of contemplation, he shifted his focus to a nearby construction site. Putting the vine away, he moved in that direction.

George, noticing Custer's behavior, glanced at DeWolf. "Should we follow him?"

DeWolf shrugged. "Maybe he found something. Let's go see."

On the rooftop of a nearby building, Custer stood still, examining the cracked ground before him. It was obvious this was another crime scene.

George observed Custer's careful analysis and turned to DeWolf. "He seems very capable."

DeWolf nodded in agreement. "He's always been the most capable."

The car raced down the road, a few drops of rain splashing onto the pavement. Frank Custer, driving, thought about the clues he had uncovered at the crime scene. The involvement of Spider-Man and other unknown forces made his expression grow more serious.

Feeling the slight bumps on the road, Custer gripped the steering wheel tighter, lost in thought. Driving had always been an addiction for him. It was a feeling nothing else could match. The road stretched ahead like a black-and-white photograph, and the speedometer read sixty miles per hour.

Custer came from a broken family. At twelve, his father's gas station had gone bankrupt due to poor management, leaving their once prosperous Sicilian immigrant family struggling financially. As a teenager, Custer became violent and aggressive, solving problems with his fists. Eventually, he got a car, and it became his escape, his god. The car could elevate or ruin his mood with just a turn of the ignition.

In his youth, he would drive aimlessly, following stray dogs, seeking solace in the thrill of speed. But after his military service, everything changed. Custer retired from violence, abandoning his belief in superheroes and vigilantes. To him, those who punished criminals were committing crimes themselves. Now, he was focused on ensuring justice through procedural law, thinking of ways to hold the so-called superheroes accountable.

As the car passed a corner, a few fallen leaves were kicked up by the tires. Gwen, wearing her hood, walked past just as the car driven by Custer sped by. She was staring at her phone with a frustrated expression.

Despite explaining to Peter that something was wrong with him during their conversation at the swimming pool, she still felt down. Peter had asked for leave, which made Gwen feel uneasy. It hadn't been hard for her to get a leave of absence note for Peter from Miss Fish, but her real concern was the missed opportunity to talk to him face-to-face.

When Gwen entered the classroom at Midtown High, Liz immediately cornered her.

"I need your help, Gwen."

Liz's expression was serious as she spoke. "We need you for the weekend party."

"What?" Gwen blinked, unsure of what Liz meant.

"The masquerade party this weekend. We need a band, and there's one in our school—the 'Mary Janes' band!"

The "Mary Janes" band Liz mentioned was Gwen's school band. Gwen played drums in it, but since she was a relatively new member and didn't practice with them often, she often felt like an outsider.

"I'll have to think about it," Gwen replied, feeling distracted by her own concerns.

"But you're in the band, right? Glory and the others are counting on you. Do you want the band to fall apart?" Liz urged. She paused, then pretended to be pitiful. "Unless you want me to invite the high school choir. That would be a disaster."

The Midtown High School choir, which included Mr. Morton and Miss Fish, was notorious for ruining any event they joined.

"Alright, I'll think about it," Gwen conceded, her attitude softening.

"Thank you! I'll promote the band on my channel, and my subscribers will follow it," Liz said excitedly, waving her phone in front of Gwen before giving her a hug.

Gwen took her seat and pulled out her phone. Curiously, she scrolled through Liz's personal channel. Most of the content was about superhero analysis and bizarre events. But soon, she stumbled upon a strange image in Liz's latest video.

The shaky, unclear video taken on a rainy night showed Spider-Man fighting what appeared to be a "giant snake." The image was quick and blurred, making it hard to determine whether it was real or just a trick of the camera.

Gwen's curiosity was piqued. Had Spider-Man appeared last night?

She sat back, chin resting on her hand, feeling frustrated. "I went to bed too early last night," she muttered. "Shouldn't I have been out there fighting crime instead of sleeping?"

She sighed and reflected on her own inaction. The bell rang, pulling her out of her thoughts.

The first class of the day was biology, but as soon as Gwen entered the classroom, Mr. Morton made an unexpected announcement.

"Class is canceled for today."

"Why?" Gwen asked, surprised.
