Chapter 16: professional Player
Julius and the others hunted more wolves until it was time for them to return. They didn't want to be outside when nightfall came.
Besides, Julius had to work in the morning and it was almost time for him to wake up.
'Damn capitalist world,' Julius cursed society once more. At the same time, he was becoming increasingly convinced that he should try to become a professional gamer.
The problem was... he had no idea how to do it.
As the group returned to the village, not wanting to be outside when nightfall came, Julius watched Eleanor.
Even though she was a very beautiful and attractive young woman, it wasn't because of that that Julius was staring at her.
"Hey," he approached her and tried to start a conversation.
"Hey," Eleanor replied in the same way.
"You seem to know a lot about virtual games..."
"I grew up playing [The Dark Moon] and [Aurora], the most famous games when I was a teenager, so I know a thing or two."
"I see." Julius had already heard of those two games; they were the main VR games before [The Gates]. Each one had over 10 million players!
"Could you explain to me what I need to do to become a professional gamer?"

Eleanor's eyes lit up when Julius asked that question. She didn't want to be evasive, but Julius obviously had a natural talent for it. Even discounting the luck he'd had with that specific game, Julius's talent was clear!
"The first thing you need to do is choose between being a digger, a guild member, or a player hunter!" Eleanor began to explain more about the professional world of VR gamers.
"Diggers are solitary players or a small group, not comparable to the numbers of players in a guild. They usually stay in small groups to get a larger share of the spoils."
"Usually, players who aspire to become professionals start as diggers and make a name for themselves through videos of their adventures!"
Julius listened attentively to the girl's words, carefully considering everything she said.
'So I would have to start as a digger? That sounds interesting.' Being a digger seemed to fit Julius's new adventurous spirit, so he was getting pretty excited about it.
"If we're going to see being a professional gamer as a career, we can say that joining a guild is the next step. Professional players are ranked by their years as diggers and evaluated by guilds to determine their potential. After making a name for yourself and getting an evaluation, guilds of different statuses will come after you to try to recruit you."
"Depending on which guild you join, your salary will be higher and you'll have many more chances to make extra money on expeditions."
"Finally, we have the bounty hunters. Honestly, this is the most complicated one, since in this business it's impossible not to make an enemy or two, causing bounty hunters to always have a target on their backs."
"Basically, there are websites out there that put bounties on certain players! Usually these players are professionals or people with some influence. That's why I recommend not going down that path."
Eleanor explained everything she could think of about the subject, but obviously there were still some things she hadn't delved into, but at the moment it wasn't necessary either.
'For now, I just have to get him to become a digger and make sure I become his manager!' The gaming world moved 100 billion credits a year, with most of that money coming from virtual reality games. Even wanting to be a doctor in the future, Eleanor couldn't let a gold mine pass by!
Luckily for her, Julius already wanted to become a digger, so she wouldn't have to work very hard at it.

Luckily for her, Julius already wanted to become a digger, so she wouldn't have to work very hard at it.
"What would I need to do to become a digger?" Julius asked curiously, he couldn't quit his job even if he wanted to. So, he would have to find a way to become a digger only with the free time he had!
Seeing a golden opportunity, Eleanor's eyes seemed to turn into two dollar signs!
"Well, first you would have to create a profile on the Hall Of Heroes website. It's the forum for gamers around the world! Practically everything exists there: Auctions, videos, chat rooms, and more!"
"After that, record and edit videos to post there! After posting, hope that it gets a lot of visibility and attracts the attention of as many people as possible. After you make a name for yourself with your videos, it will be the perfect time to start selling certain items at auction!"
"Finally, you need to maintain a certain level of activity on other social networks as well to sell a good image to the guilds. Your strength is not the only thing guilds are looking for!"
"Ads, interviews, and promotions. As a professional gamer, you'll need to participate in all of this!"
Julius couldn't help but feel a little discouraged.
'It seems like it's going to be much more work than I imagined.'
Noticing Julius's slightly downcast look, Eleanor gave a small smile. That smile, while beautiful, also reminded her of an old, cunning fox!
"But you don't have to worry about that. Any adventure you take me on, I'll record, edit, and take care of your social media! The only thing you'll need to do is focus on getting stronger!" She couldn't miss the opportunity to hook a potential big fish!
She could already smell the credits she was going to make!
"I see. How much do you want for that?" Julius wasn't a fool, he could see that Eleanor saw potential in him and wanted to invest. So, he wanted to know how she would charge. 'Does she want to become some kind of manager for me? I thought she wanted to be a doctor.'
"35% of future earnings from videos, advertising, and sponsorships you receive for the next 10 years!"
"Okay." For Julius, those numbers weren't absurd. In fact, he even found them quite reasonable, making it easy for him to accept the proposal.
"Huh?" Eleanor didn't expect Julius to agree so easily. In fact, she thought he would try to bargain a little more, and Eleanor was willing to go down to 25%!
'So he's a complete newbie!' Instead of feeling bad for deceiving Julius, she could smell the credits getting even stronger!
"I need some time to draw up the contract, but don't you dare deceive me and make a deal with someone else before me!" Excited to have landed her first 'client', Eleanor quickly disconnected as soon as the group had arrived in the village.
From her body, particles of white light emerged and ascended into the sky until they disappeared.
Julius said goodbye to Katharina and Frans, who decided to stay there and take a look around the village to try to find anything useful. Maybe even get a mission for the group.
"We'll stay here a little longer, kid."
"Yes, we want to see if we can find some kind of mission!"
Soon after saying goodbye, Julius disappeared in particles of light in the same way as Eleanor.
As he transformed into a particle, Julius watched the world distort due to the high speed, until there came a point where what he saw was no longer the village and its surroundings.
He had entered a kind of greenish path with some shades of purple until at one point only the purest black remained.
Soon after, Julius opened his eyes and found that he was already in the real world once again.
