Mantle of the Gods [LitRPG / Slow Burn / FTB Harem]

Book 10A - The Auction - Chapter 31

Klix was waiting for us in the conference room.

Trent must have told Kara that was where we were headed, or maybe he sent her a message himself. However it happened, she was there.

And she didn't look happy.

"That spoiled little..." Klix made a fist so tight that her nails dug into her palms, slowly leaking white blood onto the table.

To be fair, they were more like claws than nails. Everything about the Goddess was predatory. Her red eyes, shark teeth, and pointed ears. Even the way she moved was like she was prowling. It reminded me to try to stay on her good side.

"She can contact me, but instead, I have to hear about it secondhand through a HUNTER!" Klix ground her teeth as she closed her eyes and tried to control her breathing.

Trent was the only one in the room who didn't seem concerned. Everyone else looked terrified, which I was pretty sure was the expression on my face as well. No one else, not even Miel, had taken their seat, which meant Trent was the only one sitting down and he was in the seat to the Goddess's right.

"If you've composed yourself, we can call them back." Trent eyed the Goddess. "Or do you need another minute?"

The glare she shot him felt like it could kill a Mundane. "I'm good."

"Good! Then everyone should sit down, because I'm not standing up for this meeting." Trent tapped on his menu.

This time, Gesai and Ren were the only two others that were part of the team that were present. We'd been whisked away so fast that there wasn't any time to wake anyone else up. Gesai had taken the seat next to Trent. I was sitting next to her, and Ren was on my right.

Across the table, Miel was next to her mother, and Kara sat on her left.

When Klix addressed her, I realized that Rix had answered the call while we were sitting down.

"Where is my daughter, and how in the black suns are you in Trazor???" The Goddess stood up a little as she leaned forward.

"Pixie!" Rix turned the screen so we could see a pink-haired woman hacking away at the wood golem. "Quit playing with that! Your mom wants to talk to you!"

Klix sat down as Pixie finished off the golem and ran towards the screen.

"My daughter told me that she saw a portal." Klix tilted her head towards Miel. "What happened?"

"I was investigating a possible robbery when Pixie stumbled on the thieves. I cloaked her, but that was enough to spook the Bandits into using a portal to escape. After they went through the portal…" Rix turned the screen so that we could see both of them. "Pixie touched it and dragged us both here."

"You did WHAT ?!?!?!" The Goddess's voice boomed so loudly my ears rang.

"It was shiny!" Pixie pleadingly looked at Rix.

The golden woman only shook her head.

"Of all of the..." The table groaned as Klix's nails tore holes into it. She closed her eyes and grated her teeth. "Trazor isn't an ally…" She looked at Trent. "I don't know if she's with the Primus directly, but her kids don't die from accidents."

Trent hadn't told me much about the Primus other than Kire was a part of them and they'd killed his wife, who'd been a Godling. They'd been at the peak of Tier Five when they got attacked. Dee's death had ripped a hole in the Dungeon they were in and thrown Trent down deeper than he'd ever ventured and destroyed most of his gear. He took years to claw his way back up to the floor they'd been on so he could leave. And he'd done it all by himself. That alone had made Trent a legend among the Adventurers.

His new popularity was the only reason the Primus hadn't killed him. Kire had told him if he taught and stayed out of the Dungeon, they'd leave him alone. If my father stepped out of line, they'd kill him. For almost fifty years, Trent had done just that.

And now we were in the mess that we were in. Trent had fought the spirit of Wurn and leveled up to Tier Seven. That was unheard of for anyone who wasn't a God or one of their private guards. We had been waiting for the Primus to make a move, and now we were the ones with people in one of their cities.

There was a buzzing noise as the screen split in half and another figure joined the call.

The silver God on the other screen had short strawberry blond hair and a well-kept beard and mustache. His blue eyes were full of life so early in the morning and had a calming effect on the room as he smiled.

The God Tres was joining our conversation.
