Book 10A - The Auction - Chapter 17
The coin clattered to the ground.
A gateway the size of the entire north wall had melted away to reveal a path.
Just like the Dungeon.
Jenne scooped up the coin. "I don't know how long it's going to stay open."
Oz was the first one through, followed by me, then Aelin, and Jenne came through last.
The other side smelled like the Dungeon, complete with the artificial light that looked much earlier than almost two like it had been on the other side.
"How long do you think..."
Aelin's question was cut off as the portal vanished, leaving nothing but an arch behind.
"I've never read about a gate built this way." Oz walked up to it and ran her hand over the metal.
A display sprang to life, giving her information.
"This is called the Park Dungeon, and we're on the first floor." The brown woman turned around. Her green eyes were full of uncertainty. "How is there a Dungeon in Klix that the Goddess doesn't know about?"
I tried to pull my pistol out of my CB, but I couldn't access my inventory. "We can figure that out later. Right now we need to worry about being in a Dungeon and not having our weapons or armor."
That wasn't exactly true. Oz and I were both wearing our blue leather jackets, which were Dungeon armor, as were our pants and boots. Aelin and Jenne, on the other hand, were both wearing Mundane clothes.

Oz picked up a thick tree branch the length of her arm. "At least we're on the first floor."
"I'm getting serious first week vibes here." Aelin looked at me. "We're not going to have to camp here like last time?"
"What? Atlas, catch!" Oz tossed me a branch similar to the one she had. At least they were oak, so it'd make a passable club.
"Our first week, we got locked in the Dungeon without any gear or supplies." I looked at Jenne. "Can you get the gate open?"
The golden woman walked over to the display and started looking through the menus.
"I heard about that." Oz shivered. "Dad said to expect that we'd have to do something like that once we got our full team."
Honestly, getting trapped in the Cathedral Dungeon wouldn't be so bad if we had to do it again. At least, not if we didn't have a deadline like last time to push ourselves. Otherwise, we had our skills and could easily rely on those to survive.
"Good luck with that." Aelin shook her head. "Once was enough."
"I figured it out." Jenne turned back to us. "It's on a timer, sort of. I have to use the coin to get out, and the coin won't be charged for an hour." She waved her hand. ''No, we can't use our magic to charge it."
Aelin sighed. "Fine, so we're exploring?"
"That is why we're here." Oz pointed her club down the path. "On the topic of things that we've never seen in the Dungeon before, have any of you ever heard of houses in the Dungeon?"
"Anything more permanent than a tent will start spawning monsters inside." I shook my head. "Even when we went on farming trips that lasted days, we never left tents up because monsters would destroy anything left up for more than twelve hours. Any structures would also just start breaking down after a few days." I walked over to see what she was pointing at.
Half a mile down the trail, the woods gave way to grassland and buildings.
Not just a single one. There were more buildings than I could quickly count. That defied everything that I knew about the Dungeon. Unless there was some skill that helped build them in under a day, I didn't see how so many could be kept standing.
I looked over at the other two women, who had walked over to see what we were looking at. "I guess that's where we're going."
