Chapter 204: Resting Sword
Kurt did want to know more about Raykiel, his new blade. He wasn't sure if anyone would notice the difference. If it was a threat to Ishtar he would assume Rosie would remove it from his grasp.
She was more than enough without a sword Ishtar had remarked. He hadn't used it since the battle with the shadow creature.
He finally removed it. And made a slash the effect was not working the same.
I can rest, invisibly.
The words on Kurt edge started to glow. Making another swing. The space warped unlike the illusion the sword seems to actually be in multiple places at once and not just hiding.
It seemed like the sword understood his worry and found an easy way to ease his mind. He would be a good sword to have. He wouldn't have named his sword as male himself, but the voice and the meaning.
He wanted to learn more about the spell work now. So found his way to Jacob.
Jacob was busy making saddles for the wyvern. There still were many that needed them.
"Hey," said Jacob. "What are you doing here?"
"Thought I'd give you a break, Lord's command and all that."
Jacob left the saddle he was working on, "so what's up?"
Kurt said he wanted to see Jacob's place. He hadn't seen it before. And he was really the only human using a more elven habitat. It was grown in a tree and partially under ground.
"So what do you really want to talk about," said Jacob.
"What, I don't want to see your place finally? And my old friend?"
"I know you man," said Jacob. "You wanted to go somewhere privately for a reason."
"Well I was curious about my sword and since you've been researching the spell work."
"Okay, I'll play along. If I could see it." Jacob took the sword and gave a good look down. "Good, real good, this polish is almost too good."
"What about the spell work," said Kurt.
"I'm getting there, these grroves and this divot here are a bit odd though."
"I use those with my water ability."
"I see, it was designed to help with that," said Jacob, "are you not happy with that?"
"No it's not that it makes the whole process easier as I wanted."
"Okay, complicated," said Jacob, "this counterspell should be very effective. There are so many layers. You can only go so far."
Jacob ran his fingers down a different line of writing, "and changed to voice activation because humans have a hard time channeling, that actually an interesting subject. How the species use the work differently."
"Yeah the spell works," said Kurt.
"Both of them?"
"Both?"
"Yeah there is this other trigger, shi-va-Kai,"
"That the one I know,"
"And," said Jacob. "The Bah-rou"
"What is that?"
"Well, it's not complete I guess, they calm it The Bah-rou because it starts that way…, Bah-rou-fir, Bah-rou-vet…a bunch others not just like fire-water-air stuff but it would realign for a certain element. Without it it would be good for everything but not great, but gaining a better counter to one would necessarily lower one or more of the others. I can write it all down for you, I'd have to look it all up myself. It's a lot to memorize. It would actually start to gain that element on the attack if you go up a level, Bah-rou-fira. Which of course makes you more weak to water and stuff. They say when you're good at it you can time the change. There is a sweet spot and can cause a full reflection, but it's risky if you're too late. More of a show off move."
"Yeah make something I can study a bit, I could practice that," said Kurt.
"But if you didn't know about the spell I don't really see the problem. You'd have, it would have been well rounded, the Bau-rou changes that."
"Wait, would one work on the shadow?"
"I mean," said Jacob, "like was it casting magic? It wouldn't change it's physically just the ability of the counter spell, like if you had like a super big fire ball knowing the right Bah-rou would help split that easier. I'm not familiar with a direct shadow thing, I think I would have remembered that. Shadow clan and all."
Kurt thought back to the Sorcerer that may have helped, but if he had to speak it there was a likelihood the student would have changed instantly as well. Not that Kurt even directly understood what it was even firing at him at the time.
Jacob ran his fingers over the spellcraft, "wait there something, no where'd it go." Jacob began to examine the spell work a bit more closely. "I'm not sure, you'd have to ask Blake. But it's almost like trying to hide something."
"What do you mean?"
" I can feel a word that is not supposed to be there, I can quite make it out, then it's just not there anymore. Ki maybe, which is like the equivalent of 'the' or 'a' most of the time but it could be kai, or que, it's hard to explain because I notice it is not what it is not supposed to be and after it's just gone."
"And you could feel it?"
"Only after really going close and studying it, honestly you could easily miss it if you hadn't known the spell originally. Those spellsmiths are tricky bunches though, so Blake would know. This was his work right? Keeping their secrets."
"Yeah, I think so. But other than that?" Kurt knew it was the name of the sword hiding itself, so it was perfectly invisible, or unoticable.
"Seems appropriate for you, if you're keeping the water based attacks. But I'll get you a diagram for the Bah-rou, might come in handy to have one around. You'll need a vague translation."
Well at least there was something out of it. Kurt wasn't sure it was wise to tell Jacob he might end up telling someone. He wanted to keep it close.
"So about your saddle. Does it fit right, we can mend."
"It's fine."
"That's good. So I never got a real chance to tell you. There should be a charm in one of the pockets in it."
"And, it should be able to call the wyvern that is wearing the saddle. It should also pull your hand in the direction, it's sort of like a long range magnet effect. It's also kind of neat because it's 'Kai-mag' to use it."
"That would have been helpful to know."
"Yeah," said Jacob, "I told a few people that I knew I got it. You can be a hard person to get to sometimes."
"Sorry about that. You can always fly up there now."
"That's true."
"So I still like being the worker and not the soldier."
"Yeah, I actually feel like I'm more helpful to our advances here than I would have ever been in the front line. Especially with the wyvern saddles as everyone one I make is essentially another wyvern ready for battle."
