Chapter 8: Chapter 8: The Forbidden Spell
After a chaotic adventure with the talking cats, everything seemed to be returning to normal. Akira, Yumi, Sakura, Kenji and Ryo finally had a breather. But deep down, Akira knew that there was still something much more dangerous lurking nearby.
As they gather at the city's central point to rest and discuss the next steps to return to their dimension, Akira couldn't stop watching Yumi. There was something about her that he was starting to notice. An ancient magical presence, something he hadn't felt since he met them.
— Akira? — Yumi asked, frowning. - Everything is fine?
He was lost in thought.
— Huh, yes, it's okay... — he replied, hiding it. — I'm just thinking.
Kenji, who was distracted trying to balance on a rock, raised an eyebrow.
— About what exactly? Or are you going to continue with your mysteries?
Akira ignored the comment and stood up, a few steps to a small tree nearby. He started drawing symbols on the ground with a dry twig, which immediately caught Yumi's attention.
- What are you doing? — she said curiously.
— There's something about you, Yumi, — he said calmly but firmly. — Something that is not common even for an inexperienced wizard. A power greater than you can imagine.
Yumi laughed awkwardly.
— Me? Powerful? You've got to be kidding. I can barely cast spells without causing trouble.
But Akira seemed too serious to joke. The group, now intrigued, began to approach.
— Are you saying that Yumi has some kind of hidden power? — Ryo said, holding a flower.
Akira shook his head affirmatively.
— She has more than just power. She is the key to a forbidden spell... a spell that can destroy worlds.
Yumi turned pale. Akira's words echoed in her mind, and she felt a chill running down her spine. How could she be the key to something so devastating?
— Forbidden spell? What are you saying, Akira? -she said.
— I don't know all the details, but I've felt this energy in you since we met. It's something old, something sealed a long time ago. And now I know why.
Akira stopped drawing and turned to face Yumi.
— There is a shadowy organization that is after this power. They know who you are, and they know what you carry. The forbidden spell that could end everything is within you.
Kenji, Sakura and Ryo were shocked. Sakura, ever protective, moved away from Yumi and held her hand.
— This is crazy! Yumi is clumsy, yes, but she would never be part of something so... evil.
Akira closed his eyes and sighed.
— It's not a question of being part of it or not. The spell is dormant inside her. And if this organization manages to activate it... well, everything together can be destroyed.
Yumi looked at the floor, trying to process the revelation. Suddenly, the little confusions and mistakes she made with magic started to make more sense. It was as if something inside her was being suppressed, and every time she tried to cast spells, some of that power tried to escape.
— But... I never wanted that — she said in a low voice. — I just wanted to help my friends, protect people. How can I have this spell?
Akira looked at Yumi.
— It wasn't your choice. But now that we know, we need to stop this organization from finding you. And we need to understand more about what's inside you.
Before the group could discuss further, the sky suddenly began to darken. A cold wind blew through the city streets and a feeling of imminent danger took over the place.
— They're here — said Akira, looking at the horizon.
From afar, shadows advance towards the city. Hooded figures, with strange symbols engraved on their cloaks, marched silently towards the group.
Kenji stretched out his arms, trying to keep the mood light, but there was a tone of concern in his voice.
— Seriously, we don't even have a moment's peace, do we?
— It looks like we're about to be attacked, — said Ryo, with his hand on the handle of his stone mallet. — So, what's the plan?
Akira didn't hesitate.
— We have to keep Yumi safe. They will try to activate the spell inside her.
Yumi, still confused and scared, stood behind Akira and Sakura, while Kenji and Ryo prepared themselves for what would come next.
The shadowy figures came closer, their voices murmuring ancient and sinister words. They quickly searched for the group, their intentions were clearly malicious.
— Hand over the girl. — said one of the leaders, his voice low and rough as the wind.
— No way. — Akira replied, his shadows stretching around him, preparing for the confrontation.
The battle began abruptly. Akira's shadows collided with the hooded figures, creating explosions of magical energy. Kenji and Ryo fought hand to hand, trying to keep their enemies away from Yumi.
Sakura, with her own magical abilities, cast defensive spells around her friend, creating barriers of light to protect her.
Yumi had never faced such a direct and dangerous threat. Inside her, the forbidden spell seemed to stir, as if it was trying to awaken.
Akira, amidst the chaos, looked at Yumi with a serious expression.
— If they get anywhere near you, everything will be lost. We need to get out of here!
— But how? — said Ryo, while knocking down one of the hooded men.
— I'm going to use my shadows to create a passage back to your dimension, — said Akira. — But I need time.
As Akira began to cast the return spell, the hooded figures got closer and closer. The shadows around them grew larger and more menacing, advancing on the group.
Kenji and Ryo fought with all their might to buy time, while Sakura kept the magical barriers active.
Yumi, scared, felt a gentle hand on her shoulder. It was Akira.
— You are more than you think, Yumi. Don't let fear control you. Let's take you back home.
She looked at him, taking a deep breath and trying to gather her courage.
— I'll try... for all of you.
Akira left lightly and returned to focusing on the spell. The shadows around him began to expand, creating an opening in the air – a passage to his home dimension.
- Now! — he checked. — Everyone inside!
— If they get anywhere near you, everything will be lost. We need to get out of here!
— But how? — said Ryo, while knocking down one of the hooded men.
— I'm going to use my shadows to create a passage back to your dimension, — said Akira. — But I need time.
Sakura, Kenji, Ryo and Yumi ran into the passage, while Akira kept the enemies at bay with his shadows. At the last second, he leapt through the opening, and the passage closed behind them.
The group dropped into a peaceful clearing, in the magical city of Kazan, with the Fuyu School of Magic on top of a hill. The air was cool and the sky was shining with a gentle sun. They managed to escape.
— Are we... back? — said Ryo, still panting.
Akira agreed.
— Yes, for now. They're still after us. And now that they know who Yumi is, they won't stop until they get the spell.
Yumi, exhausted and still confused, sat down on the grass.
— Why me? Why am I the key to something so dangerous?.
