Chapter 696: Starting Anew
Currently, the Technique Spirit for Sky Gate has been explored to have three uses:
Using it on walls with a thickness not exceeding 10 cm (One-winged)/50 cm (Two-winged)/3 meters (Three-winged) allows you to open a temporary passage, maintaining the passage requires constant consumption of magic power.
Using it in the real world for creating a portal; however, 99% of the time, the portal leads to Void Turbulence capable of destroying anything, and it's extremely unstable, possibly collapsing in the next second.
Using it in the Void Realm creates a Sky Gate, which currently serves no purpose.
The Technique Spirit for Sky Gate has a usage limit; One-winged can be used up to three times, self-destructing after three uses, or dying from overexertion if used twice within 24 hours; Two-winged can exist permanently but must have a 24-hour interval before using it again, or it will self-destruct; Three-winged can be used three times consecutively, but using more will lead to self-destruction.
Actually, Technique Spirits have always had usage limits, but most mages just use them for commuting in the Void Realm, and the market doesn't allow them to overwork the Technique Spirit, so it's rare to hit this limit. It was only during the Ghost Prophet's resurrection incident that many mages battled continuously for several hours, causing occasional Technique Spirit deaths. Those that survived had to consume a lot of gold coins to recover from weakness.
Consumable Technique Spirits like the Sky Gate Technique Spirit have always existed, such as time Technique Spirits like Reverse Year. Their common characteristic is that their effects far exceed their wing number, like a One-winged Reverse Year reversing a year of time, or a One-winged Sky Gate opening a portal—power far exceeding rank, naturally subjecting them to limitations.
Thus, even though the drop rate of Technique Spirits for Sky Gate has increased, research on them will be a long process. Even major forces haven't necessarily figured out feasible utilization methods, let alone Ash and his black workshop.
Yet facing the problems posed by Black Crow, Ash was surprised: "You realized it?"
"The first day you learned about the Technique Spirit for Sky Gate, you were happy; the second day, you went out to gather information with great anticipation; the third day, you rented a basement to conduct research, feeling anxious; on the fourth day, you played cards with Qikara and Harvey all morning, then went to the basement to research in the afternoon, but showed some slack."
"And then yesterday and today, you didn't go to the basement nor did you play with Qikara." Black Crow said, "The more important thing is, you even came to me for combat techniques advice, and actively sparred with me. I knew then you found a way to leave."
Ash was angry: "It's weird for me to want to learn from you?"
"It's not weird, I'm the weird one," Black Crow said, "because I'm just a ferocious messenger Black Crow, no one tries to curry favor with me, no one gets close to me. So when people go against their feelings to be close to me, I know something I might not like is going to happen."
Ash muttered: "Actually, I didn't go against my feelings... Besides, who said no one gets close to you, aren't we familiar?"
"You never invite me to play games."
"That's because every time I see you, you're either sharpening knives or cultivating, how could I dare disturb you with something trivial?" Ash protested, "I never disturb Igula when he's counting money either!"
"And if you want to join us, you should just say so, otherwise how would I know you want to join us in the Sleepless and Famished Club activities?"
"Sleepless and Famished Club?"
"It's the Sleepless and Famished Club."
Black Crow was momentarily dazed, then shook his head and said: "I tried being proactive before, but I ended up making others uncomfortable."
"Huh?"
"Once when I passed through a small town, I played a game of kicking sandbags with some kids. I felt happy at the time, but later someone complained to Tanomu, saying I was coercing those kids... Who would want to play with someone dressed so bizarrely and reeking of blood?"
Black Crow's tone showed no emotion, only his voice slowly lowered. However, Ash had a different opinion: "Was it the kids who complained, or their parents?"
"Probably the parents, but it's all the same..."
"It's not the same. You're illiterate, not blind, when you played with the kids, weren't they happy or uncomfortable, could you really not tell?"
"I was the same, maybe I was a bit reluctant to approach you at first, after all, I'm at the age of despising physical activity... but I quickly got into it because you teach seriously, so I must respond seriously."
"Your appearance is indeed scary, but good intentions are felt with the heart, not seen with the eyes. A kind person who looks fierce is still a good person, a beautiful person who is bad is still bad... And not only I can feel it, Harvey and Igula, you know how sensitive and cold they are, but even they know to consider your feelings, you've gained their recognition."
"I don't need their recognition."
"But you've already recognized them, haven't you?"
Ash said: "From now on, there's no White Crow to accept good intentions for you, so you must learn to accept goodwill openly and actively express kindness. Don't hide like an immature youth behind Black Crow's mask indulging in self-pity... Did I make myself clear?"
"Hmm."
"Sigh, such a grown person yet I have to worry." Ash sighed, "I've done too much for this team."
After a brief silence, Ash slowly said: "We plan to leave Black Robe Town tomorrow, embark on the journey home. It will probably take more than ten days on the road to reach the destination."
