Chapter 38: Moving On
Darvin Talor
As we headed back to the academy, I kept looking at the two corpses we had carried with us, then at Aldin. After I found him with the two dead men he looked depressed, killing was never easy for anyone and he was still a kid. In the ned he finally fell asleep thanks to the carts rocking.
When we got to the academy, I carried Aldin to his room while the carcasses were taken to the academy's storage unit.
A few minutes after we got back, the principal walked in, escorted by Professor Bloom who was close behind him.
"What happened there?" the professor asked, to which I narrated to them all that happened after we got separated.
"It must have been harsh on him killing for the first time." Professor Bloom said.
"You have that wrong," Darvin said. "This is not the first time he has had to defend himself from someone who attempted to murder him."
"What do you mean?" the principal asked. I told them what had happened and how he had had to defend himself from his attacker.
"Now I know why he was so excessive with the students who attacked Bela." Professor Bloom commented in realisaion.
"And his drive to grow stronger." The principal added. "We'll leave you to rest, and tell Aldin he can resume classes when he's ready." He said as they left.
A couple hours later, Aldin woke up, I was in the dining area when that happened. As he walked over he was sulking and his eyes were swollen we sat in silence before he finally broke the silence.
"Thank you for carrying me in here." He began.
"No problem," I answered. "How do you feel?” I asked concerned for him.
"Well rested, but I don't feel good about what happened but they chose their own death," Aldin said and I could feel the determination in his voice.
"And that is as it should be." A voice said to which I found out to be the principal who had just arrived.
"Many others will make attempts on your life and you must be ready to take them down or they will come after you over and over. The people who attacked you have already been identified as assassins, if you hadn't taken them down they would have proceeded to kill others, so don't beat yourself for it, you did what you had to do."
"Yes, I will," Aldin said brimming with confidence and it seemed that with those words, Aldin had gone back to normal.
For the rest of the evening, we went to the library and had a blast reading, after which we went and visited our former roommates but chose not to mention the recent events.
Leon Corvus.
"Did you find any evidence." I asked to them man seated next to me, Brook, he was my inside man in the underworld and would help me gather Intel.
"She hid her tracks well but I'm sure she'll try it again and we will be there to take her down." He said.
The following week it was time for Aldin and me to have our forging lesson. We met up at the same lab as last time.
"Let's continue from where we left at last time," I said.
He took a bone and after reaffirming his ability to increase and decrease the bone's size we moved on to altering to its shape.
"Now you can try to alter its shape, the key to success I this is to use slow intricate movements." I said.
"Okay, I'll give it a try," Aldin said.
He began to try and change its shape but the sophisticated movements he used led to its breakage.
"Use a softer movement to alter its shape. You don't have to be straight forward with the movement use basic shapes to build it up."
Again he tried it and this time softer than his former actions, the change was rather slow though but effective, when it got to noon he had been able to alter its shape to that of an orb.
'Go for your lunch we'll continue later." I said and dismissed him.
Aldin Randell
Although I was feeling down about the events that had happened the day prior, I still needed to continue things as they were before. I headed back to the mansion for lunch and there I found Darvin and he seemed exhausted.
"Advanced air is exhausting," Darvin said.
"You'll make it through at least you don't have two other attributes to go through." I said knowing that earth and light were still on my list of things to do."
"How was forging for you?" Darvin asked.
"I'm almost done, just left with a bit more and then I can move on to the next speciality. "I said letting out a long sigh.
Onward we ate our lunch in silence and went back to our individual classes.
When I went back to my class, I found my master absent, so I took a bone and started practicing.
Since I've got the feeling right, may be I could alter its shape into that of a needle. I thought to myself.
I poured mana into the bone in my hand. Once it was filed I began altering the shape but this time a bit faster than the other times since I had already gotten the hang of it. I was so deeply concentrated that I failed to notice the principal's arrival. In an hour I had altered its shape into that of a needle. It was perfectly thin and I couldn't help but admire it.
"Good job." He said and that's when I noticed that he had been there.
"Thank you, professor, and I have a question," I said.
"Ask away." He answered.
"Is it possible to fix a beast armour that has been broken?" I asked because I wanted to fix the armour my mother had forged for me.
"Well it is but it requires a high level of mastery in the field." He answered. Now let's move on to the next concept, connecting material after all. Your gauntlets were formed from more than one material."
"Forging can be done by more than one material and to bring them together is done through merging.”
