Mage Kings Rise

Chapter 1: Family

Deep in the dark of night a tall beautiful woman with skin pale as a ghost and raven black hair flowing down her back could be seen walking along the streets of Aden, her beauty kept making heads turn just to have a glimpse at her as she walked down the streets and in her arms was a small child. Within the city, an inn was still operating and had only an old lady sitting at the counter, who was passing her time knitting. The tall lady walked in drawing the old lady's attention before placing the baby on the table next to the old lady and staring her right in the eye. This gaze gave the woman a chill to her core. The tall lady slowly backed away before disappearing in an instant. This gave the woman a scare prompting her to scream, a scream loud enough to bring the night shift city guard to the inn only to find the old woman on the ground in terror. He helped the woman get on her feet trying to calm her, but fear had gripped her tight.

Early the next morning the city's knight captain, Lark, a huge built man in full body armour covered in white scales and waist-long blond hair, was in his office dealing with the night's incident.

"So, you mean to say that a mage just walked into your in only to leave a baby in your inn," said Lark

"Precisely." The old lady across him said vigorously nodding her head.

"Well thank you for your assistance, you may take your leave."

After the old lady left a lady in red robes walked in with her long hair held up in a long pony, Silvia, Lark's wife, got into the office.

"What do you think we should do about the child, the orphanage is not willing to take him in and so is everyone simply because he's the son of a mage with a darkness attribute, I get that having an attribute to darkness is a bad omen, but the child did nothing wrong," Silvia said with anger in her voice and her fists trembling to express the very same anger.

"How about we take him in?" Lark said with a smile on his face as he pitched the idea to Silvi hoping she would agree.

These words caught her off guard, she walked back some steps trying to take it all in, and ended up tripping on her own two feet but luckily Lark appeared behind her and helped her regain some of her balance.

"Think about it, this would solve our problem and give the kid a good home. It's a win-win."

"But what about your reputation people are always talking and you would get on the town's bad side."

"But just treating that innocent child like a demon is way too cruel for my taste, and even if they bad mouth me there's nothing more they could do, a little more hate won't hurt me in the slightest."

"What if they try to exile you away?"

"Honestly I don't care that much for this shitty town's opinion, and I can always become an adventure, that is if you are willing to support me that would be all the strength I would need to do that" This caused Silvia to blush bright red.

"If you put it like that then I don't have any reason to say no," Silvia said.

"you're going to be the best mother; he sure would be lucky to have you."

Evening the same day Lark and Silvia walked home with their new son. They had their heads high in the clouds and almost didn't notice the death glares they got from everyone they passed.

When they got home, they were welcomed by a pile of rotten tomatoes and hideous devil paintings on their doorstep. With a wave of her hand, Silvia cleaned it using a simple spell before walking into the house. It was a relief to them when they didn't find their house trashed.

"It seems they've already started acting up, need me to send them a message," Lark asked his wife with a tinge of sadness in his voice.

"No need, I already left mine for them and I'm sure they'll like it a lot. "Silvia said giving Lark goosebumps.

And as from that day they were now a family.

Meanwhile, a group of fanatics were busy scheming in a different location.

"We can't let that child live, it will surely bring a disaster upon us," said a man in white robes.

"The demon child must die this night," said another lady from the back.

"Let us set out and cleanse this city of that child." And the old lady said.

And so they set out heading for the Randall residence.

Early next morning Silvia wore a smile on her face as she went outside, there she found a group of men and women who were frozen in place they were screaming at the top of their but nobody did anything for fear of getting entangled as well. The neighbors stood there in shock watching them struggle to free themselves only for the ice to continue growing on them. Lark walked out moments later and smiled at the scene before asking Silvia to let them go when he had enjoyed the show and the frost was almost getting to their faces. With a sigh from Silvia, the ice covering them began to melt, and without a second thought, they all ran away. This had been a message to all who tried to mess with them in the future. Despite their spite and anger, they all unanimously decided to avoid provoking them. As this spread throughout the city, their name was dragged down the mud and everywhere they went they would get glares. And so they became more isolated since many of their neighbours had decided to move away creating a huge vacancy around them that none were willing to fill.

The couple took care of their son Aldin with love and care but due to the incident seven years ago the other children had ignored him due to strict warnings from their parents and guardians. Leaving him with only his parents for human contact, broke his parents' hearts, despite all that he had grown up well but in just a few days things would change for the better.
