Chapter 7: Prologue -7.
Jin stood there, his face calm, but his eyes burned with a cold fire. He didn't revel in the cheers that slowly began to rise from the human soldiers. His mind was somewhere else, distant and calculating, as if already planning the next move.
General Wu knew what he had to do. With newfound purpose, he lifted his sword high above his head and shouted at the top of his lungs, "For Commander Jin! For humanity!" His voice exploded across the battlefield, igniting a wave of fervor among the troops. The cry of victory echoed far and wide, and the human soldiers, battle-worn and weary, found their strength rekindled by the impossible feat they had just witnessed.
"For humanity! For Commander Jin!" The men roared, their voices growing louder, fiercer, as they tasted just a small and yet the impossible victory they had just witnessed.
Commander Jin, the man who had not only resisted the demons' temptations but had destroyed one of their most powerful leaders, was now more than just a commander. He was a legend—a symbol of humanity's defiance, their refusal to bow, and their will to fight to the very last breath.
General Wu's heart swelled with pride as he thought, *We all might still lose our life but now our sacrifice would not be in vain, we took down one of the seven." The sight of the Scarlet Empress's severed head rolling across the blood-stained earth was a moment of triumph—one of the Seven, felled by human hands. It was something no one had thought possible.
He turned back to his soldiers, his voice raw and hoarse from shouting, but filled with conviction. "Prepare to attack! Finish the fight! We die today, but without regret! No matter what comes next, we have slain one of their mightiest!"
The soldiers tensed, ready to charge, their final stand turned into a wave of renewed determination.
But before anyone could move, the Dread Sovereign's voice cut through the rising battle cries. Soft, yet it carried an immense weight that silenced the entire battlefield.
"Sincerity," he spoke in a tone that was neither proud nor defiant. It was almost submissive, laced with an unnatural calm. His eyes slowly moved from Commander Jin to General Wu, then to the severed head of the Scarlet Empress lying still in the dirt. "Is this… proof enough?" He gestured with a slow hand toward the fallen demoness, the Scarlet Empress, the terror of many desires, now just a still, silent head in the dirt. Her power, her pride, all gone.
General Wu's breath caught in his throat. His mind couldn't keep up with the sheer amount of emotions smashing at him. "What is this?" Shock after shock struck his chest. He had been prepared for battle, for a glorious end, for betrayal—but not this. Not the sight of demons surrendering through death of their own, offering up their own kin to prove their submission. He could barely wrap his mind around it. "What kind of scheme is this?"
"Enough!" Commander Jin barked, his voice filled with venomous hatred. "You think this means anything?! A single head? You're all the same!" His eyes, burning with rage, locked onto the Dread Sovereign.
Commander Jin, standing there in the midst of glory, was far from satisfied. Killing the Scarlet Empress had ignited something deeper within him—a hunger, a thirst that couldn't be quenched with one head. His hand gripped the hilt of his sword tighter. His courage, his fury, had only grown. He was not done. Not until the last demon lay dead.
Without warning, Jin lunged forward, sword raised high, aimed directly at the Dread Sovereign's neck. His attack came swift and without hesitation, a deadly arc meant to sever the demon's head just like the Scarlet Empress before him.
The soldiers watched in stunned silence as the blade whistled through the air. But the Dread Sovereign didn't move. He made no attempt to defend himself. His tall, regal form remained kneeling, head bowed slightly, as though awaiting the inevitable strike.
Commander Jin's sword slashed toward the Dread Sovereign's neck with deadly precision, aiming to sever the demon's head.
_CLANK_CRACK_
But as the blade met the Dread Sovereign's skin, it didn't even leave a scratch. Instead, the sword shattered into dozens of pieces, splintering upon impact as if striking the hardest Yin steel.
Jin stumbled back, eyes wide in disbelief. The broken sword fell from his hand, clattering to the ground, useless. The Dread Sovereign remained kneeling, completely still, his calm expression unwavering.
"Wh—what?" Jin muttered, blinking in shock. The soldiers behind him froze, their battle cries caught in their throats. They had just witnessed the impossible.
Without hesitation, Jin snatched another sword from a soldier nearby. His rage boiled over as he swung again, this time with more force. "You think I'll stop?!"
The new blade met the same fate. The moment it touched the Dread Sovereign's flesh, it shattered into fragments, scattering like glass. Jin cursed under his breath, tossing the broken hilt aside and grabbing another sword.
Swing. Shatter.
Another sword, and another. Each time, the result was the same. Jin's strikes, no matter how powerful or precise, couldn't even leave a mark on the demon lord's skin. The swords broke upon the Dread Sovereign's neck like brittle twigs, as if the mere act of trying to harm him was a futile joke.
The soldiers watched in horrified silence as Commander Jin, now on his fifth sword, let out a frustrated roar. His fury was reaching a breaking point. His blows grew erratic, his movements desperate, but nothing worked.
"You… You mock me?" Jin spat, voice trembling as if he were on the verge of breaking. "Why don't you fight back?" The Dread Sovereign remained there, still kneeling and unmoved, as if Jin's relentless attacks were nothing but the faintest breeze brushing past him.
Jin's breath was ragged, his chest heaving from the effort. His hand trembled as he threw the last shattered blade aside. In a blind rage, he did something reckless. With no weapon working, Jin lunged forward, kicking the Dread Sovereign directly in the face with all his might.
