Chapter 178: Schemes and Struggles I
"You've been awfully silent lately. What have you been up to Orion?"
Veylan looked up to Orion who stood facing the view outside the balcony of his room, his back facing Veylan.
"What makes you think I'm up to anything?"
Veylan's eyes narrowed and he said with scorn in his voice.
"Hmm, or did you lose your confidence along with your teammate?"
"Heh, you know me well enough not to fall for things like that."
Orion turned around to face Veylan who sat on a chair at the side of the room.
Seeing his expression, Veylan was certain that the rumors circulating around were nothing more than that, rumors.
'This cold blooded snake isn't one to be affected by a teammates death. He's more like the type to sit and watch it happen'
"I am curious though. What happened on that mission of yours? Someone from your team dying was definitely unexpected and I certainly didn't think I wouldn't find anything when I tried digging. Was that your work?"
Thoughts flew around in Veylan's head as he tried to anticipate Orion's next words.
"Oh please. Why would I bother to cover something like that up. And I can't tell you, it's confidential."
He dismissed the topic, showing no interest in discussing it further.
"Sigh, fine by me."
Veylan let go after a cold moment of silence.
"What are you going to do about the descendant of the Gale house though? I thought you were taking care of it?"
Veylan finally revealed his intentions, feeling his irritation grow at the sight of the triumphant smile on Orion's face.
"What about it? I thought you weren't scared?"
Orion taunted.
'Tch!'
"I don't find the idea of leaving some remnants behind, especially one that doesn't know its place!"
Orion watched on, observing Veylan's constantly changing facial expressions.
The noble recruit was doing a bad job at keeping his thoughts secret, letting himself get read like a book.
'And I'm called cunning?'
Orion shook his head lightly.
Veylan might come off looking like a fool or brute but he was far from one. No recruit in his position was just a brute.
He was clearly trying to push Orion into taking care of his business for him.
Whatever the reason was, he was wary of a Gale descendant seeking revenge in the form of his head and wanted Orion to deal with things.
Either ways, this was good news for Orion.
Honestly, he didn't care about the fact that his family has reaped some benefits from the demise of the Gale household, nor about the fact that there was someone left out to seek revenge.
If anything, he personally felt no need for the collapse of the Grey household and showed no support for the decision of his predecessors, but Orion had plans and ambitions of his own.
Veylan coming to him of his own accord was a welcome sign.
"I would have handled it, but she's got some good friends."
He said lightly, taking a seat opposite Veylan who hid his relief that Orion had started talking about the matter.
"You mean those two? The blaze family isn't anything you need to fear. I can handle them if that makes you feel any better, but explain to me why that ordinary commoner isn't dead or expelled already?"
Veylan said eager to get rid of any sort of obstacles.
"Things aren't as easy as you think they are. The camp is in a state of alert right now, I can't just go around killing people inside."
"Besides, he somehow managed to get the Aurora princess on his side."
Orion said with a small frown on his face. The memory of Sabrina confronting him wasn't pleasant in any way. He had thought she was nothing more than a shielded figure who knew nothing of their world, but she was anything but that.
'Another person to look out for.'
He wasn't sure what she was planning that required all the pretense she had put on but he had to keep an eye out, lest she got in the way of his plans. He had no intention of putting another tough enemy on his list.
"Sabrina? How the hell did an ordinary commoner manage to come within 5 feet from her with that icy one that sticks to her like a dammed pest?"
Veylan furrowed his brows, his tone expressing his confusion and irritation. There were so many variables he wasn't aware of until now and he didn't like being in the dark.
'Ordinary commoner? I wish I could call him that'
Orion held back a sneer hearing Veylan's words. After their clash during his duel with Ruby, he had looked into Kieran and all he got from his official sources were a bunch of restricted notices. Everything about him the camp had, had become restricted and even his sources didn't have access to that level of information.
All he could find were the talks and rumors of his deeds since his first year and that was nothing any 'Ordinary commoner' could do.
It was no surprise if the camp already had him in their vision.
"And your plans?"
"My plans are mine. Nothing you need to concern yourself with, Veylan."
Orion ruined Veylan's attempt at probing him, hiding a threat in his tone.
"Fine, then. I trust you handle it just fine."
"As for the Blaze one. Leave him to me."
Veylan said, standing to take his leave.
Before he left, he added one more thing.
"If you can't do it inside, then do it outside. The camp is in a chaotic state, I'm sure they won't notice one of the less important recuits going missing while one a mission"
"The coming announcements should also be in your favor."
He dropped those words before leaving the room for Orion to ponder with his thoughts.
"Who does he think he is? My master or something?"
Orion kissed his teeth and muttered with a dark expression while considering Veylan's last words.
Something was coming and he didn't know of it yet.
