Chapter 45: Going Home
(Old Town)
(Afternoon)
Margaery sat on her bed not saying a word to anyone as guards and her grandmother inspected her room for any more assassins. Sansa and Arya were being held in their room until their innocence could be decided, as they believe Lucerys to have been the man responsible for the dead guards. Margaery would've spoken in their defence but she was still shocked by the revelation that Lucerys, the man she had come to know and had come to love was someone else.
He was Daeron Targaryen a contender to the Iron Throne, one of the most wanted people in Westeros, as of this moment she hadn't told anyone what she knew, how could she? She was utterly in love and it turned her into a fool. Though now she wondered if she even knew him at all, if he lied about his name mayhaps he lied about everything. She wanted answers and two people had them.
Margaery stood up and removed the creases in her dress and left her room, she went to the next corridor where they were being kept "Stand aside" Margaery commanded as she stands in front of the two guards.
The two guards look unsure but eventually follow her commands and stand aside allowing her to enter the room. She comes into Arya who was standing in front of Sansa and she seemed to be acting out a fighting move where she bashed someone's head against the wall "And then we run free" Arya states.
Margaery sighs "Please don't harm any of my family guards, they're nearly doing their duty"
They both jump at Margaery's presence, Sansa looks concerned while Arya looks annoyed "Have you sent a letter to our father" Sansa asks resolutely expecting the worst but much to her surprise Margaery shakes her head.
"I have not... no one else knows of your identities but I" Margaery states much to their confusion.
Margaery shifts uncomfortably "I'm not sure if Luce-Daeron mentioned me before but we've spent quite a bit of time together"
Arya huffs "He never stopped talking about you! Every time he got back to the Inn it was Margaery this and Margaery that" she mocks much to Sansa's amusement.
"Even when he had his cock in her mouth he mentioned you" Arya added getting a slap on the arm from Sansa who blushed.
"Arya! She doesn't need to know that!" Sansa whispers loudly as she reprimands her sister, while Arya looks sheepish and sits down and stops talking.
Margaery stands in front of the two with her arms crossed "I want to know if he lied to me, he's the first person that I-... it doesn't matter I want to know everything about him, the truth otherwise I'll tell my grandmother about you two" Margaery states with determination as she wipes a stray tear from her eyes.
Sansa smiles softly and stands up grabbing onto Margaery's hands and pulling her to the bed between her and Arya "You must've fallen for him, it's okay we understand" Sansa whispers into her ear as she rubs her back.
"One thing to know about Daeron is that he's a horrible liar, so he'll mostly just omit the truth in most cases, the biggest lie he probably told you was his name" Sansa explains.
Margaery feels a weight lift off her shoulders at the news "Did he really go to Sothoryos? He said he'd tell me of his time there but dancing shadows? And giant apes seemed so fanciful"
Sansa giggles "It's true, I was with him at the time, we were shipwrecked there, our time there was truly wondrous and also completely terrifying"
"Can you tell me about it?" Margaery asks as Daeron had only given her the bare details of his time there.
"Of course, though I spent most of the time after we arrived captured," she said sheepishly.
———————————————————
Daeron who had yet to find a tunic had left Battle Island where the Hightower sat, Adara had faded off somewhere again, and he had started to grow used to her presence which he didn't know how he felt about. On one hand, she did just save him while on the other she was an ancient being composed of the godly remnants of an entity that managed to kill most if not all of the gods.
Daeron thought back to the creature he saw below in the black stone fort, it felt wrong to destroy the eggs, but he couldn't allow a creature such as that harpy to walk amongst them again. He had been to Sothoryos where such creatures had existed, it rendered the place uninhabitable. He knew he was being hypocritical, he had brought dragons back to the world, creatures that allowed Aegon who had a mere 8,000 men to conquer Westeros.
Daeron decided to think of such things later, right now he wanted to organise their leave of this place. He wanted Rhaenys, his love must be coming close to her due date and he would not risk himself not being present for the birth.
'Shiera...' Daeron said through their link, though he could tell she was upset at him.
'Shiera I'm sorry... but you haven't seen the kinds of things these old beings are capable' he says.
'I know... but asking me to knowingly kill you was awful, you're the closest thing I'll ever have to a father' Shiera says her voice echoing in a low tone inside his head.
'I won't ask you to do such a thing again, I promise' he reassures her which makes her feel a bit better.
'But now I need you to stay close, I'm done messing around... I almost died because of my stupidity, rain down fire and blood at the first sign of trouble' Daeron says in a cold voice.
'I'll burn the city down to its foundations' Shiera stated.
Daeron managed to find his way back to the Tyrell manse after asking around, most men told him to Fuck off while women told him almost immediately. It got him to consider how few male friends he had.
"Halt! Lady Tyrell wishes to speak with you" One of the Tyrell guards stated as soon as he approached the front gate.
"For what reason," Daeron asked with a frown, he knew he wasn't going to like the answer.
"To ascertain your guilt in the guards that were slain when you disappeared from the manse" The guard simply stated as he nodded his head to the two other guards who surrounded Daeron.
"That's ludicrous! I was barely walking and you expect me to slay numerous guards and escape only to come back" Daeron shouted incredulously.
Though the guards did not seem to care for logic only their orders "Follow now or be forced to comply" he simply stated. Daeron decided to play along for now, it would be easier to get his belongings as well as Sansa and Arya if he didn't have to fight his way into the manse bare-handed.
Daeron was led into the manse and through the lavishly decorated corridors until they reached a door with two large guards in front of them. The guard knocked at the door and Daeron heard a voice say to enter.
Daeron was met with the image of an old lady sitting at her desk, her Solar had large windows that overlooked the garden and the afternoon light shined through eliminating the need for any candles. Daeron knew this woman could only be Olenna Tyrell the Queen of Thorns.
She looks up from her parchment "Leave us" she simply states to the guards, she must have them well disciplined as they didn't argue at all and promptly left the room. Even if it meant leaving her alone with a man accused of murdering their household guards.
Daemon stood there with the woman that had only recently tried to have him killed, though it seemed to be a pretty common occurrence nowadays. As selfish as it might seem he wouldn't mind if his life was cut short, he knew what was waiting for him and he would eagerly join them.
"So Lucerys take a seat... or would you prefer Daeron? Or perhaps Jon" Olenna says bluntly making Daeron tense.
"Take a seat I don't plan to have you killed in my solar, far too much mess and that's not to even mention the smell," she said gesturing to the seat in front of her desk.
"You say as much though only a week ago I found myself almost killed in one of your machinations" Daeron stated bluntly.
Olenna waves him off "That was simply necessary at the time, you were an upstart bastard who'd managed to sweet talk my granddaughter, I'm just thankful that you haven't ruined her, though that's not what I wish to discuss"
Daeron feeling uneasy takes the offered seat though he remains on edge for any hint of danger "I don't think I would've ever found out truth be told, however seeing those companions of yours nearly break into the Tyrell manse to get to you made me look at you a bit closer" she explained.
"While you may fool the average person into believing you're a dragon seed, I've met a few Targaryens in my time. And was even almost betrothed to one, I've also met your father and your silver hair only makes you look more like him" she continues.
"I'm sure you're very clever, however, I'd appreciate it if you'd get to the point" Daeron stated in a short tone.
His tone made Olenna laugh "It's been a while since someone's dared be so blunt with me, even my children tread on eggshells around me, but yes you're right"
"I have a difficult choice to make, I either remain loyal to the crown and fight for the Baratheons, though by doing this my family stands to gain nothing as Robert Baratheon still holds contempt for my family supporting the frown" she states as she pours herself a cup of wine.
"Or I take a risk and marry my granddaughter to Aegon Targaryen, Aegon has the Golden Company and Dorne and most likely the coastal houses in the Crownlands, if we add the reach, Kings landing will be surrounded and Robert Baratheon will find himself at a disadvantage" She states.
Daeron who's fond of the idea of Margaery marrying his fake brother shrugged it off in indifference "Seems like an obvious choice then, however, I don't see what this has to do with me"
Olenna holds up her hand to indicate patience "If I side with Aegon then Margaery will find herself in contention with the Dornish, who are not particularly fond of us nor use them, I'd risk my granddaughter being killed in her sleep after the war, which is something I won't allow"
"This was my dilemma... until I discovered your identity" Olenna states in an ominous tone.
Daeron narrows his eyes and clenches the handles of his chair "You and your sisters or cousins, will be gifted to Robert Baratheon and his Hand Eddard Stark, doing so will give my family the favour needed to marry Margaery to the Crown Prince, taking out all the risk my family has to take" she states with a smirk.
Daeron glares at the old woman "You're a brave woman to say such a thing to me alone and unarmed in your solar"
"Not brave, simply smart enough to know you won't harm me" Olenna replies.
"Olenna Tyrell... I'll give you this one chance to forget this plot of yours and allow my family to leave" Daeron speaks in a clear and neutral tone, however, it doesn't seem to have any effect on Olenna.
"Save your empty threats boy, your fate is sealed, take some pride in the fact you're helping my granddaughter achieve her dream" Olenna states bluntly.
"Very well, I'm sorry we couldn't agree" he said standing up and leaving her Solar.
"Where do you think you're-"
*ROAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR*
———————————————————-
The whole of Old Town heard the roar that reverberated throughout the skies, those on the streets looked up and those who were inside left the building, all nervous at the completely monstrous roar that they had heard.
That's when they saw it dipping below the clouds, a red monstrosity, its large wings spread out as it glided down towards the residents of Old Town.
*ROAAAAAAAAAAAAR*
The people were shocked and couldn't move though before but the tension snapped as soon as the first person shouted "DRAGON!!!!!" Suddenly the whole city was in a frenzy as they all desperately tried to flee, the large dragon coming ever closer.
'Try not to kill any small folk, Stick to the guards and Tyrell men, burn the Hightower to the ground' Daeron told Shiera.
Shiera sent back her mental agreement, though she couldn't help but worry at his commands, while she was glad she didn't have to commit a massacre, it seemed out of character for Daeron to do something like this, she hoped he was okay.
———————————————————-
Olenna was shocked to the core as she heard the roar of a creature reverberate through the air, she looked back to Daeron as he still made his way to the door only for it to open suddenly as her large guards poured in.
They attempted to grab Daeron only for him to touch them on the chest, they froze for a minute, discomfort on their faces before they fell over. Daeron then turns back to her with a cold look In his blue starry eyes "I suggest you leave, this place won't be standing much longer" before he left the room.
Daeron quickly headed to where his room was, Garlan had made sure his belongings were placed including his winnings from the melee, Daeron put on fresh clothes before tying his sword to his belt and grabbing the chest.
He went from room to room trying to find Sansa and Arya, he finally opened the door and saw that they were there with Margaery of all people. Looking at her made Daeron's heart hurt a bit as they were now enemies.
"Daeron!!!" Sansa/Arya both shouted out.
"Sansa, Arya we need to go, Shiera is attacking the city" Daeron stated, the girl's eyes widened at what he said.
Sansa got up confusion evident on her face "What happened? Where did you go? Why is she attacking the city!" She rapidly fired questions which led to Daeron cupping her face and kissing her.
"Not now... grab your stuff and let's go we don't have much time" he said getting a nod from her.
Margaery looked at him with watery eyes, she stood up and slapped him before hugging him "I know you couldn't tell me the truth but I wish you had" she said quietly as Daeron returned her hug.
"I'm sorry Margaery, this was always going to be temporary" He whispered to her.
"Was any of it real?" she asked looking up at him her big brown eyes staring into him.
"All of it... I wish we could've spent more time at the orphanage together" he says to her with a peck on her lips.
"It doesn't have to be temporary... you could steal me away" she asks as she puts her head on his chest.
Daeron feels his heart clench at her words "Think of what you ask Margaery, you wouldn't be able to see your family for a long time if ever"
"Would I be free?" She asks as she looks up at him.
Daeron smiles "You'd never be caged for as long as you live"
"Then I choose you, I choose to be free rather than be chained down in the guise of being a queen," she says resolutely.
Daeron smiles at her before kissing her once again "Then I suppose you better pack some clothing" he states before she smiles heading off to her room quickly.
After the girls pack the necessities Daeron leads them out of the manse, it seemed all the guards had fled at the sight of the dragon, not very unexpected. As they ran out onto the street they saw an amazing and terrifying sight. Shiera was hovering by the Hightower and firing her intense dark red flames at the building she had aimed them near the base of the tower just above the black stone fort, completely making the tower uneven.
With a flap of her wings, she moved out of the way as the Hightower completely fell into the ocean, the once mighty seat of House Hightower was no more. Daeron thought it would be enough of a message to any who tried to come after him, Shiera then continued flying around the city burning places devoid of small folk.
All the while Daeron and the girls made their way to the docks, it seems most of the ships had set sail, which wasn't too surprising however a couple remained, picking the closest one Daeron made his way up the ramp and aboard the ship.
"No no no! I'm out of here not taking any passengers, not taking any cargo I'm going back to Pentos and never returning to this damned Continent" a man who seemed to be the captain of this ship shouted out.
Daeron opened the chest he had under his arm "I have coin" he simply states.
"Well honourable Ser it's a pleasure to have you on our ship, now get the fuck out of the way before that dragon kills all of us!" He shouted before started barking orders at his crew.

(Black Stone Fort)
Melissandre didn't know how long she had sat there in the darkness, she had failed, her lord had asked her to free him but she had failed, foiled by the Great Enemy.
*Melissandre....*
She heard a whisper from the dark, she turned her head but did not see anything as the torches had long since burned themselves out.
*Melissandre....*
Her eyes teared up as she heard the voice of her lord, he had not abandoned her, he spoke to her through the shadows as he preferred, as there are no shadows without light.
"My lord I knew you would not abandon me, please how can I serve"
*Sorthoryos...*
