Chapter 538: Changing Gear (2)
Luke opened his eyes and yawned. This case was relatively simple and posed no danger, so he didn't use any function cards and didn't need to replenish them for now.
He decided to save the points for later and didn't bother to check the system.
The sheet was tugged, and Luke turned his head to see Daisy turning over, the blanket only covering half of her, showing her graceful curves and a large expanse of tight skin.
Looking at Daisy, Luke thought of Lilith. Both women were beautiful, but in different ways. Daisy had a wheat-colored complexion, mature and independent, with the competence of a professional woman.
Lilith, on the other hand, had fair skin and a slimmer figure, exuding the elegance and pride of a European aristocratic woman.
Luke's attitude towards them was also somewhat different.
His relationship with Daisy was somewhere between friends with benefits and a couple. Before, Luke attempted to move forward and define a relationship, but Daisy backed off.
When progress isn't made, things regress, so now their relationship leaned more towards friends with benefits.
Luke came to terms with it, thinking there's nothing wrong with having fun without responsibility.
The relationship with Lilith was more like a one-night stand, where they had a delightful exchange at a specific place and time. Whether it could progress further was still uncertain.
Having stayed in Los Angeles for a while, Luke's mindset had changed. The most important thing is to be happy, so why overthink? Just take it one step at a time.
To be candid, even if you wanted to take responsibility, others might not appreciate it.
Luke reached out and patted Daisy's waist, "Ellis Lawyer, it's time to get up and work."
Daisy pushed Luke's hand away, yawning, "Let me sleep a bit longer, that little case of yours is no big deal."
Luke had made an appointment with the Zhang brothers to sign the share transfer contract today.
After getting up, the two of them washed up briefly and went to a nearby restaurant for breakfast.
Then they drove to Zhang's Construction Company, located in a seven-story office building in downtown Los Angeles.
After Luke and Daisy got out of the car, the Zhang brothers were already waiting in the parking lot.
Luke exchanged pleasantries with the brothers and introduced his lawyer, Daisy.
The four did not go upstairs immediately; after waiting a few minutes, David arrived in a pickup truck.
It was David's first time meeting the Zhang brothers.
The Zhang brothers were very enthusiastic, but David was indifferent, without much intention of engaging with them.
The five of them went up to the office building, and the Zhang brothers first gave Luke and the others a tour of the company.
Actually, there wasn't much to see. Zhang's Construction Company's office wasn't large, and there weren't many employees, primarily used for receiving guests occasionally.
Zhang Jianguo invited Luke and the others to the lounge and brewed a pot of Kung Fu tea.
Since an agreement had been reached before, the process of signing the contract went smoothly. Luke and David acquired twenty percent of Zhang's Construction Company's shares for two hundred thousand US Dollars. After signing the contract, the amount would be transferred to the company account within ten working days.
In less than an hour, the signing was completed.
Luke and the others wanted to leave, but the Zhang brothers stopped them, warmly inviting the trio for lunch to discuss the company's future development.
Daisy had to leave first because of matters at the law office.
Luke and David were left by the Zhang brothers.
Perhaps because of David's presence, the Zhang brothers chose a renowned local Italian restaurant over a Chinese one this time.
Zhang Jianguo raised a glass of red wine, "Captain David, I toast to you for our future cooperation."
"I'm sure it will be," David raised his glass and took a sip.
Luke asked, "Mr. Zhang, when will my house be completed?"
Zhang Jianguo calculated with his fingers, "Most of the work is done, only some minor details are left, and it should be completed within a week."
"You've worked hard, brothers. Once it's completed, I will definitely host a feast in thanks."
Zhang Jianguo replied, "Mr. Li, we're family now. No need for formalities; this is what we're supposed to do."
Luke nodded, asking, "How is Golden Light Building Materials Company doing? Have they caused any trouble recently?"
Zhang Jianguo put down the cutlery, "I was just about to discuss it with you.
Golden Light Building Materials Company is still relentless, causing various minor problems. Recently, our company took on a housing contract in the Valka community, and Golden Light sent people to cause trouble again.
Luckily, the owner wasn't present, or it could have damaged our company's reputation."
"This issue needs to be resolved quickly." Previously, Luke wasn't concerned because it wasn't directly related to him, but now it's different. With shares in the construction company, any troubles from Golden Light directly affect his earnings and could even lead to losses.
The Zhang brothers exchanged glances, unable to hide their joy, and Zhang Jianmin asked, "Mr. Li, what are your plans?"
Luke said, "They want to talk, right? Then let's talk with them. Since we're also shareholders, we will be present to clarify everything thoroughly."
Zhang Jianguo responded, "You mean I should actively arrange a meeting with someone from Golden Light Building Materials Company?"
"Exactly, and someone who can make decisions. Meet and address everything at once, to avoid future issues."
"Okay, I'll follow your lead." Zhang Jianguo quickly agreed, finding stability in Luke and David's willingness to step forward.
With the business talk concluded, the group continued to eat, drink, and chat.
The Zhang brothers frequently toasted David, becoming somewhat familiar with each other. But, not being of the same circle, they soon ran out of topics to discuss.
After the meal, Luke invited David to go to the shooting club together.
David asked, "Have you been practicing with the shotgun recently?"
Luke was eager to try, "Of course, want to have a match?"
David didn't respond, having already heard from Raymond about Luke's exceptional shooting skills. From their last shotgun practice, he experienced firsthand that Luke had thoroughly mastered shotgun use. If Luke was saying it, he had a certain degree of confidence.
Although David was also confident in his shooting skills, as a sort of shooting coach to Luke, winning was expected, but losing would be embarrassing.
"Is this why you invited me to the shooting club?"
"No, I'm not here to practice with the shotgun this time.
My Glock handgun is broken. I thought I'd take this opportunity to get a new one."
"Why change it if the Glock is so good?"
"It is great, with fast firing rate, low recoil, and large magazine capacity, making it the choice for most users.
But its advantages aren't as relevant in actual combat for me.
First, my marksmanship is accurate; I can basically neutralize or kill a target with one or two shots.
The second shot is usually because I'm worried about the Glock's insufficient power, so I take an extra shot just in case.
If it had more power, one shot might suffice to neutralize the target."
"So you want to switch to a more powerful handgun?"
"Yes."
David chuckled, "Is the Desert Eagle big enough?"
"Come on, I'm being serious."
David stroked his chin, "How about the Colt M1911?
With a caliber of 11.43mm, it's reliable, durable, and easy to maintain. It's one of the most classic handguns in the world."
Luke had used this gun before during practice. At that time, he felt its power and grip were excellent, but the disadvantages were its heaviness and only a seven-round magazine, leading him to choose the Glock 17 instead.
However, now his shooting skills had reached a very advanced level. With the boost from the Accuracy Card, he was almost a sharpshooter. As long as the power was adequate, he could neutralize a target with one shot, seven bullets were enough to handle four to five enemies.
If there were more than five enemies, using a rifle wouldn't necessarily allow him to eliminate all of them simultaneously.
Moreover, he could always change the magazine, which was sufficient.
With a general idea in mind, Luke began trying new handguns, testing those with larger calibers and choosing a few favorites for practical drills.
In the end, he selected the M1911A1, an improved version of the M1911.
The gun was 219mm long, with a barrel length of 127mm, weighing 1.36kg, and had a magazine capacity of 7 rounds, firing 0.45-inch bullets.
The pistol's power, grip, and overall performance perfectly met Luke's needs for a new gun.
