Chapter 495: You Are My Hero (Part 2)
"How long does a bank transaction take?" Luke handed the document to Daisy.
"Within 24 hours after signing the confirmation."
Daisy checked the document, and only when there were no issues did Luke sign at the bottom right corner.
The transaction was officially completed.
Besides the money from auctioning the gold jewelry, Luke also caught a fugitive in Red Rock Canyon, earning an $80,000 reward.
Once the money is deposited, he would have $600,000.
Additionally, when Orty went to Hawaii to invite him back to Los Angeles to investigate a case, they signed an $800,000 employment agreement with Luke's new detective agency.
Once the $800,000 is deposited, Luke would have $1.4 million incoming; however, considering taxes, he could probably only keep around $1 million.
This money could first be used to pay the mid-term housing construction contract fee, allowing him to relax a bit.
The remaining $320,000 shortfall can be covered by the end of May.
Steve Renault kept the document safely and handed Luke a business card, "Mr. Lee, here is my business card. If you need auction services in the future, just contact me directly."
"I will." Luke put the business card away, stood up, and prepared to leave.
"Mr. Lee, please wait a moment, I have one more thing to discuss with you."
"What is it?"
"The buyer of that batch of gold jewelry wants me to pass you a message; he wishes to meet you."
Luke shrugged, "Why?"
"During the auction, our auctioneer mentioned that the batch of gold jewelry was found through a treasure hunt, the buyer is very interested and wants to know your treasure hunting story.
Also, he is willing to purchase the treasure map in your possession at a reasonable price."
Luke frowned, "What kind of strange request is this? The treasure has already been found, why would he want the treasure map?"
"I'm not sure, I'm just forwarding the message."
"Can I directly refuse?"
"Of course, it's your right."
"Okay, help me refuse it."
"Understood." Steve Renault made a gesture of invitation and saw Luke out of the lounge.
With tens of thousands of dollars incoming, Luke was in a great mood and took Daisy to a Japanese restaurant.
Los Angeles has many Japanese restaurants, including quite a few Michelin-rated high-end places.
Humorously, many Japanese restaurants are actually run by Chinese.
Luke naturally wouldn't go to a Japanese restaurant run by Chinese, it would make him feel like he's being ripped off.
Being a foodie, Luke did quite a bit of research before choosing a restaurant, finding one of the top-rated sushi places in town.
The term 'foodie' has become increasingly common, and it's not hard to understand why, thinking about it. With the advancement of productivity, acquiring food has become easier than ever.
Eating has become the easiest desire to satisfy, and thus food enthusiasts have become much more widespread.
Previously, food was scarce, and the ability to eat to one's fill was a real problem, with no room for picking and choosing.
This Japanese restaurant has two stories, with a terrace on the second floor. Luke prefers dining outside, so he chose a table at the edge of the terrace.
Daisy dressed in a red V-neck t-shirt and black pencil skirt, fashionable and sexy, showing off her figure.
Luke looked her up and down, "You're dressed beautifully today."
Daisy put down her handbag and sat across from Luke, "You chose a nice restaurant today too.
In my memory, it's the first time you've invited me to eat Japanese cuisine."
"I'm not fond of raw food, and many dishes at Japanese restaurants are raw, so... I eat it less often."
Luke handed the menu to Daisy, "You go ahead and order."
Daisy glanced over the menu, ordered a few favorite dishes, and looked at Luke, "What do you want to eat?"
"As long as it's cooked, I'm good."
After ordering, the waiter first brought a pot of sake.
Daisy picked up the sake pot and poured two cups of sake, saying, "I saw you on TV. I didn't expect you to have such a good relationship with the FBI Los Angeles office."
Luke joked, "Are there any fans of mine in your law firm?"
"Of course, Jimmy is one."
"No, that pervert doesn't count. I mean female fans?"
A breeze blew past, and Daisy brushed her hair lightly, "Isn't the one sitting right in front of you?"
During the conversation, the Japanese dishes were also served on the table.
The two chatted while eating.
The Japanese dishes were meticulously crafted, providing a decent dining experience, but, of course, priced not cheaply.
After eating, the two drove back to the Luke family home.
A black Volkswagen also drove into the Luke family's community, but didn't stop, passing directly by the Luke family home.
Luke drove into the garage and returned home with Daisy.
Minutes later, the black Volkswagen drove back again, paused briefly near the Luke family home, and then left the community.
This little interlude did not affect Luke and Daisy.
After showering, Luke embraced Daisy onto the bed, preparing to find out what new experiences could be brought by the protection of a new card.
The two hadn't spent the night together for some time.
Tonight, naturally, they'd have a round two.
The first time, Luke used a new card and showed progress.
The second time, he began to perform exceptionally, with noticeably improved control, leaving Daisy exhausted and lying softly on the bed.
...
Next morning.
Both woke up late.
Being late was routine for Luke.
It was Daisy's first time.
Good card.
Luke drove Daisy to the law firm, it was already past nine in the morning, anyway, they were already late. Luke wasn't anxious, so he went to Palisades to check on the progress of his new home.
From early March until now, the house had been under construction for over twenty days, already having a dramatic transformation.
Luke chose a house model where, besides the foundation, the main structure and load-bearing walls were cast with concrete; the advantage is it's sturdier than regular houses, the drawback is the cost is higher.
The walls' middle layers and the roof are framed using wood and light steel filled with moisture-proof, fire-resistant material.
The wood pieces are roughly the same size, assembling like building blocks into a one-story frame, simultaneously fixed using tenon-and-mortise structure supplemented by metal nuts.
The Zhang brothers hired over ten workers to accelerate construction, having already completed the house build.
Luke roamed around inside, the house was structurally completed, with electrical wiring and plumbing being installed.
Luke and the Zhang brothers discussed the method for interior decoration, aside from aesthetics and practicality, they mainly considered moisture-proofing, fireproofing, pest prevention, and soundproofing.
Luke shared his ideas, while the Zhang brothers brainstormed solutions and construction plans. The morning passed quickly.
At noon, Luke ordered takeout to treat the construction crew to lunch.
After the meal, Luke returned to the police station for work.
At two in the afternoon, he managed some tasks, and then entered the captain's office for a nap.
He thoroughly enjoyed the workout last night, but it was indeed tiring, and he felt that he needed to look after his health.
Evening.
Mezke Bar.
"Cheers!" The team sat together in a circle.
Luke drained his glass of rum in one gulp, "Good alcohol!"
"I chose it." The vice-captain showed a reminiscent expression; previously, during team gatherings, they rarely drank such good booze. But now, things are different; the squad has ample funding.
Everyone could drink freely.
The vice-captain poured himself another cup, gossiping, "Hey, guys, did you hear?
The wife of that real estate magnate wants to bail out her kid."
Jackson teased, "Wow, it looks like the bail amount in Los Angeles is about to set records again."
Jenny said, "Actually, jerks like this should be the ones getting kidnapped."
The vice-captain shrugged, "Though I think the same, it's best not to say it."
Jenny mimicked sealing her mouth.
"Did you guys know? Last night, I had a dream."
Lil' Black interrupted, gesturing wildly, talking animatedly, "I dreamt that my adorable daughter was kidnapped. She's so tiny, she can't even walk yet.
I felt like I'd explode with anger. From the mirror, I saw myself transform into Liam Neeson, riding a Harley chasing the kidnappers down the streets of Los Angeles.
The two kidnappers took my daughter onto a helicopter.
In desperation, I rode the motorcycle up a ramp, flew into the air, grabbed the helicopter, stormed into the cabin, and threw the two baddies off the helicopter.
Then, holding my daughter in one arm and piloting the helicopter with the other.
When the helicopter safely landed, my daughter suddenly spoke, saying, 'Dad, you're my hero', haha..."
Luke: "..."
Everyone: "..."
