Chapter 460: A New Case
Twelve o'clock at night.
A white Tesla car sped along the road, with a white male in his twenties in the driver's seat and a Latin girl in her late teens in the passenger seat.
The Latin girl clutched the right handrail, "Tom, slow down, you just had a drink."
"Baby, don't worry, my driving skills are excellent." The white male leaned forward slightly.
The Latin girl laughed, "Believe me, fast speed doesn't equate to good driving skills, what made you think otherwise?"
"Wow, you actually doubt me, want to test it out?"
The Latin girl shook her head, "Just drive properly."
"I'm serious."
"Are you crazy? We're in the suburbs."
"Experiencing the most primal activities in the natural setting, that's the true meaning of life, trust me, you'll love it." With that, Tom turned right off a junction, leaving the main road and onto a dirt path.
"Hey, Tom, stop messing around, it's so dark here, you can't see anything."
"Doesn't that enhance the feeling? Plus, there's nobody here, we can do anything we want in the car, trust me, it's amazing." Saying this, Tom reclined the passenger seat.
The Latin girl hesitated before embracing him naturally after a few symbolic pushes.
The young couple was at the age where passion burned bright, a few kisses led to jackets being removed.
Suddenly, the Latin girl pulled back, eyes wide, "Tom, there's someone outside!"
"Hey, baby, don't scare yourself, there's nobody here but us."
"I really saw someone, just ran past the car."
Tom began to look around the car but saw nothing, "You must be mistaken."
"Let's drive away; this place makes me uneasy."
Tom ruffled his hair with an irritated hand, his interest piqued, not wanting to leave, "Let me go check."
"No, let's go."
"Baby, don't worry, nothing to fear when I'm here." Although unwilling to step out into the darkness, Tom ventured out fueled by hormones, to reassure the Latin girl enough to play poker with him.
Tom took out his phone, turned on the flashlight, and opened the car door to step outside.
"Tom, be careful." The Latin girl looked worried.
"I will, wait for me." Tom winked and scanned the area with his flashlight after getting out of the car, seeing nothing unusual. He then circled the car, examining but still seeing no person.
However, a mound of earth near the distance caught his attention. Gathering courage, Tom approached the mound, using his phone's flashlight to investigate.
Beside the mound was a large pit, inside lay a man, pale face, bulging eyes staring intensely at him.
Suddenly, the man's open mouth revealed a large rat crawling out.
"Ah!"
Tom fled back to the car in panic...
Next morning.
Luke entered the Robbery and Murder Department with a take-out bag in hand.
"Hi, guys, good morning.
I brought you pastries."
Blackie was the first to approach, "Great, I was just craving something sweet to lift my mood."
"What's the matter?" Luke took the pastries out of the bag.
"No, it's nothing, just that Julian's due date is near, and I'm feeling tense, anxious, uneasy, never felt like this before, hard to describe." Blackie immediately stuffed a pastry into his mouth.
"If you're really concerned, take a few days off to stay with her."
Blackie shook his head, "My mom's already moved in with us, I'm just idle at home, feeling redundant, you get that feeling?"
"No, I'm still young." Luke shrugged.
Blackie grabbed another pastry, "What's this called? It's pretty good, where'd you get it, Julian will love it."
"It's called Wife Cake, usually available at large Chinese supermarkets."
"Wife Cake?" Blackie chuckled, "Why do they call it that, is it meant for wives?"
Luke was too lazy to explain, "Exactly, you should buy some for Julian."
Vice Captain also picked up a Wife Cake, took a bite, "Luke, you just scored a fortune, treating us just this isn't enough."
Luke looked surprised, "How did you know?"
The Vice Captain smirked, "Walker posted on Facebook again, photos of you and the treasure, never seen him smile that widely."
"Wow, such an unreliable old fellow." Luke grumbled, but didn't mind inside.
Though discretion is required depending on the situation, for someone like Luke and Walker, a little exposure might not be a bad thing, at least everyone knows how the money was gained.
Otherwise, if Luke suddenly moved into a mansion, people might suspect something untoward.
Blackie displayed a curious expression, "Did you find treasure again?"
"What treasure? Can I see?" Jackson joined in.
Seeing everyone's curiosity, Luke didn't hide it and directly showed a picture of him and Walker with the treasure.
Upon viewing, everyone expressed envy and surprise, though aware of Luke's discovery, they didn't expect it to be this much.
Blackie spoke with slight tremble, "How much are these gold ornaments worth?"
