Chapter 456: Whereabouts (Part 3)
Luke speculated that the murderer either had a deep grudge against the two, was a psychopath, or wanted to seize the treasure.
From a distance came another scream, which sounded like it was from Morris Dawan, and it shouldn't be far from here.
Luke still didn't rush over. He examined the footprints on the ground and recognized footprints of three people, including Morris Dawan and the black female victim. He had also seen the other man's footprints before; they were from the cave yesterday.
Luke roughly had a sense of what was happening; there was no sign of a fifth person at the scene.
Luke continued forward, deciding to meet the killer.
It was not to save Morris Dawan but for the treasure.
The treasure hunter most likely committed murder for the treasure, and Luke didn't want to miss this chance.
He checked his gear: two pistols, a dagger.
Luke glanced back; Walker hadn't arrived yet, and he decided not to wait.
Holding a gun in each hand, Luke headed toward the direction of Morris Dawan's scream. After walking for several hundred meters, he saw a patch of blood, a shoe slashed by a blade, but no sign of Morris Dawan's body.
His eyes scanned the surroundings, studying the footprints on the ground, and he pursued towards the right.
At this moment, he heard a man's voice, "Old man, have you hidden well?
You know, I've been contemplating whether to kill you or cut off some part of your body when I find you this time.
You're such a good prey, I almost hate to kill you."
Silently following the direction of the voice, Luke shouted, "Hey, freeze!"
"Wow, someone else joined the game? But I didn't invite you; that's quite rude."
Luke interrupted him, barking, "Drop the machete! Hands in the air!"
The man wearing a hood let the machete fall from his hands and slowly raised them, then suddenly turned around.
"Bang bang bang!" Luke fired immediately. A bright light in the darkness made his eyes smart.
As it turned out, the moment the hooded man turned, he took a bullet in the back, and after turning around, one in the chest, but wearing a bulletproof vest spared him from serious injury.
The hooded man also counterattacked, raising a flashlight to blind Luke, making it briefly difficult for him to see the target.
Then he drew a revolver from his waist and retaliated, "Bang bang bang!"
Luke quickly dove to the ground, rolling several times, both to dodge bullets and to avoid the flashlight beam, which made it hard to see the target if it shone into his eyes.
Luke's movements were swift, and the other's bullets missed. Luke used an Accuracy Card, aiming at the killer's right wrist.
"Bang bang!" He fired two consecutive shots, one missed, but the other hit the opposing party's wrist.
"Ah!" The man in the hood cried out, and the gun in his hand fell to the ground.
The hooded man crouched down, reaching with his left hand to retrieve the gun. Luke fired again, "Bang bang!" Two more shots, hitting the man's left wrist!
"Ah!" The hooded man let out a scream, whether from pain or anger, it was unclear.
Luke stood up, dusted off his clothes, and used another Accuracy Card. He must find the treasure; otherwise, it would be a huge loss for him.
Fortunately, Luke was nimble, and with the dim lighting, the hooded man's bullets did not hit him. Otherwise, he would have had to use a Bullet-Proof Card, which would indeed be a great loss.
Luke walked over, kicked the revolver away, and removed the man's hood.
Underneath was a white man in his forties, with a scar under his left cheek that, combined with an angry expression, made him look somewhat fierce.
Luke stared at him, fixing his gaze on the bulletproof vest, "You even added steel plates; you're truly a freak."
Since acquiring the Bullet-Proof Card, Luke was reluctant to wear a bulletproof vest for complex reasons.
Firstly, there are many kinds of bulletproof vests. The ordinary types generally only guard against handgun bullets and not knives or rifles, but they are light.
Secondly, the ones with added steel or ceramic plates offer better protection but can still be painful when hit by a rifle, and they somewhat hinder mobility.
Just like Luke earlier, if he had been wearing a vest with steel plates, he wouldn't have been so agile and might not have dodged the hooded man's shots.
And a bulletproof vest can only protect vital areas, leaving other parts vulnerable.
Of course, for ordinary people, wearing a bulletproof vest is definitely safer.
"What's your name?"
The white man, although injured, still didn't yield, "Go to hell!"
Luke kicked him to the ground, frisked him, and pulled a gold pocket watch from his pocket. Its vintage style and craftsmanship gave him a sense of déjà vu.
"It really was you who stole my treasure!"
