Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 454: Bad Guy

This night, Luke still didn't sleep well. The night watch had to continue, with Luke watching the first half of the night and Walker the second half.

Morning.

Luke was awakened by the sound of conversation. After getting up, he saw Walker and Morris Dawan sitting outside the RV, chatting while drinking coffee.

Luke washed his face and walked off the RV, "Hi, good morning."

Walker said, "We are discussing which treasure hunting location to go to first."

Luke pulled up a chair and sat down, "Do you have any ideas?"

Walker said, "We are now on the south bank of the canyon. I think we should go all the way from east to west. It's more steady and less likely to get lost. What do you think?"

Luke nodded, "It's a good idea.

Now I'm more curious about what we're having for breakfast."

Walker laughed, "I've arranged it. Each person heats a box of pasta and opens a can of meat. Eating some meat helps stave off hunger.

We can also bring some brown bread and milk for lunch supplementation."

Luke gave a thumbs up, "Very reasonable."

Walker stood up, "I'll go make breakfast. You two can chat."

Luke sat at the dining table and asked Morris Dawan next to him, "Morris, how's your injury? Can you join us in searching for the treasure location?"

"Such a small injury is nothing for a man who's grown up outdoors, and with my three-wheeled motorbike, there's nowhere I can't go."

Luke asked, "Where are you from?"

"Wisconsin. It's full of forests there.

I built a luxurious cabin near the forest; it's very cozy.

I'm an expert in outdoor survival, and my main job is teaching students survival skills in the wilderness." Morris joked with a smile, "Don't tell anyone about my injury. If my students find out, I'll lose my job."

"Then you better bribe me well." Luke laughed and poured himself a cup of coffee, "I love watching outdoor survival shows. Initially, I watched Bear Grylls; he seemed super cool and unstoppable.

But after watching a lot, I've formed some of my own views on survival, and feel some parts of Bear's shows are fake, not true survival.

I've also watched Dual Survival, Naked and Afraid, Man and Woman Wilderness, Primitive Survival 21 Days, Primitive Survival 45 Days, and by the way, I think they're definitely playing poker.

But my favorite is Alone; I think it's the most authentic and more apt for the average person.

As an outdoor survival expert, what's your take?"

Morris Dawan laughed, "Actually, I rarely watch this kind of survival program. Because in terms of experience, they can't match my vast experiences.

They love using some 'points' of survival skills to show off and grab viewers' attention.

But that's not real survival. They're conveying false information to viewers, which is dangerous. I don't advocate this behavior.

Moreover, different places have different characteristics, and survival skills needed vary. You can't generalize.

Take Red Rock Canyon, for example; it's quite different from my hometown.

Some of my survival techniques aren't suitable here. I also need to learn canyon survival skills; survival is an endless study."

The two chatted a bit more about wilderness survival, and Walker came out with quick-heated pasta, while Luke opened a beef can, cutting it into three pieces, one for each.

The main task today is treasure hunting, so we'll have a simple breakfast.

In less than ten minutes, the three finished breakfast and after a quick cleanup, embarked on the treasure hunting journey.

Luke was driving the three-wheeled motorbike, Morris Dawan was studying the map and observing the surrounding terrain, and Walker was driving the RV behind.

They traveled forward for about an hour and found a location similar to the terrain depicted on the treasure map.

After getting off, the three carefully compared and observed using binoculars.

Walker was the first to speak, "I think this patch of canyon floor matches the terrain depicted on the treasure map, and I seem to see a balance stone on the east side of the canyon floor from the binoculars, which also matches the marks on the map.

I believe we should check out the canyon below."

Luke and Morris Dawan had no objections, and then the three began to find a way into the canyon floor.

The three-wheeled motorbike led the way, with the RV following behind.

After the RV traveled a certain distance, the road became narrow and the surface rough, making it impossible to continue downhill.

Walker parked the RV in a safe area.

The three continued to the canyon floor on the three-wheeled motorbike.

After nearly forty minutes descending, they finally reached the canyon bottom.

The area at the canyon bottom was sizable, and the three decided to split up, Walker and Morris Dawan as one group along the west side of the canyon.

Luke would explore alone on the east side of the canyon.

Luke took a complete photo of the treasure map with his phone, then they split up.

Luke walked and observed the surrounding terrain.

Not long after moving forward, he discovered some tire marks. The tire was very narrow, even narrower than the three-wheeled motorbike tires, likely from a small motorcycle.

Luke frowned slightly; these tire marks were quite fresh, seemingly just left not long ago, raising his caution.

Luke paused for a moment but heard no unusual sounds. He continued forward, observing the surrounding terrain while keeping an eye on the motorcycle tire marks.
