Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 384 Invitation_2

"A fraud case, no big deal," John retorted, "What are you doing here?"

"My mother lives here."

"Wow..." John raised an eyebrow, showing surprise, "Uh... there might be some misunderstanding.

How old is your mother?"

"Not yet fifty."

John breathed a sigh of relief, "Then it has nothing to do with her. We're investigating an elderly woman around seventy."

"I'll go in and take a look."

John asked, "Are you coming tonight?"

"Why not?"

Luke entered the house, two patrol officers were questioning inside the living room, the chubby one wasn't downstairs, Grandma and Linda were sitting on the sofa, and Val stood beside them.

Linda saw her son and breathed a sigh of relief, as if she had found her backbone.

Grandma stood up too, pointing at Luke, "This is my grandson, he's also a police officer."

The two questioning officers looked at Luke, including Lucy, who was an acquaintance, "Luke, is this your house?"

"Yes, my mother's house.

What happened?"

Lucy explained, "We received a call from a man claiming that his diamond ring was stolen.

The caller provided the suspect's name as Jenna Dean, and we tracked down this place.

The ring on her hand matches the description given by the caller."

Grandma Jenna Dean argued, "I didn't steal anything; this is slander! I'm the one who should be calling the police, not him."

Lucy said, "But the caller has the purchase receipt for the ring, and the serial number matches the ring you're wearing."

Jenna Dean said, "I admit the ring was bought by him, but he has already given it to me.

So, it's mine."

Lucy said, "According to the caller, the ring was meant for a proposal, but you refused his proposal and didn't return the ring.

Refusing to meet him, rejecting calls, and leaving your residence with the ring.

This constitutes fraud."

Jenna Dean shook her head, seemingly unconvinced by the other's words, "I didn't commit fraud."

Lucy questioned, "Then why not return the ring?"

"I... I really like this ring, really do..." Jenna Dean caressed the ring with her hand and looked at Lucy, "You're a woman too; you should understand, right?"

Lucy countered, "Sorry, ma'am, I don't understand.

If you don't accept someone's proposal, you should return the proposal item; otherwise, it's unlawful possession."

"I didn't commit fraud, and I didn't ask him to buy the ring. It was him who put it on my hand voluntarily; I didn't say I wouldn't return it...

Just wanted to wear it a bit longer.

I didn't expect him to choose to call the police, such a petty man.

Very glad I didn't accept his proposal." Jenna Dean reluctantly took off the ring and placed it in front of Lucy, "Please pass it to him.

Tell him not to contact me again.

My heart is broken by him."

Lucy "..."

Jenna Dean was not taken away by the police, just as she said, the ring was voluntarily put on her by him rather than her asking for it or stealing it. At most, it could be considered unlawful possession.

And given her good attitude in admitting guilt and voluntarily returning the ring, the police had some discretion, considering Luke's presence, there was no need to take the old lady to the police station.

Luke saw Lucy and the other officer out, somewhat awkwardly watching the police car leave.

Linda regretted letting her son come back, "Son, I'm sorry, for embarrassing you."

"There's a saying, 'Every family has their difficult story', as long as I'm not embarrassed, then it's others who are."

The mother and son went into the living room.

Jenna Dean grabbed Luke's arm, "Sorry, darling, Grandma gave you trouble."

Jenna Dean also knew that if Luke wasn't there, this matter wouldn't have been resolved this smoothly, and she would have had to visit the police station in handcuffs.

Luke didn't answer; he knew who his uncle got his unreliability from and why Grandpa was so against Grandma.

Such freakin' trouble.

...

Near the sports stadium.

Luke and John got out of the car, strolling from the parking lot towards the stadium.

Outside the stadium, quite a crowd had gathered, mostly men, in groups of three to five chatting.

Luke curiously asked, "Can you tell me what the competition is now?"

John smiled, "Wrestling match."

Luke looked at the billboard by the entrance featuring two women in bikinis, "Are you sure it's wrestling?"

"Women's wrestling."

"Then why are they dressed like this?"

John walked up to the board, pointing and reading aloud, "Women's Nude Wrestling Match."

Luke frowned slightly, "Is this legit?"

"Of course, it has rigorous competition system and rules, just like regular sports events, and the wrestlers are mostly professional athletes," John winked, "Everyone who's seen it says good things."

Luke pointed at the billboard, "Is it like this on the billboard? Won't be false advertising, right?"

"Don't worry, it can only be less, not more." John finished and walked into the stadium.

Luke also went in, picked up his ticket at the self-service machine in the lobby, saw a prize redemption sign not far away, and asked, "Can you place bets here?"

"You can do it on your phone. I'll teach you in a bit."

The two bought drinks in the lobby and walked into the audience section one after the other.

By this time, the audience section was almost full. Their seats were in the front row of the audience section, not far from the ring, giving a clear view.

The two found their way to the third row based on their tickets, their seat numbers are consecutive, one is row 3, seat 17, the other is seat 18.

At this time, two white men were already sitting in their seats, chatting warmly with the people around them, occasionally bursting into laughter.

Luke looked at his ticket and then at the seats, it seemed correct, "Hey, sir, may I ask what your seat numbers are?"

A white man with stubble glanced at Luke, "Kid, are you talking to me?"

"Yes, you're sitting in my seat." Luke waved the ticket in his hand.

The bearded man sneered, "This seat is mine now."

"Why?"

The bearded man pointed to a few men beside him, "Because we are together, we want to watch the match together, got it? Get lost."

The three men around also glared at Luke, one tattooed man even rolled up his sleeves, signaling support for his companion.

Luke patiently advised, "I don't want to cause trouble, I don't care what your relationship is, seats 17 and 18 are ours.

Vacate them immediately."

The bearded man stood up threateningly, "If I don't vacate, what are you gonna do? Wrestle me in the ring?"

"Haha..."

Several friends around laughed, standing up too, looking unfriendly at Luke.

John flashed his badge, questioning, "What do you want to do? Attack the police?"

Seeing the badge, the bearded man instinctively shrank his neck, his companions also lost their previous arrogance, sitting back in their seats.

Luke waved, "Show me your ID."

"Why?"

"Are you thinking of attacking the police?"

"Bad luck." The bearded man showed a frustrated expression, but nonetheless pulled out his driver's license.

Luke looked at the license and took a photo, "Get lost, don't let me see you again."

The bearded man took back his ID, didn't say a word, and obediently slipped away.

The man sitting in the 18-seat next to him also left.

John sat in the 17-seat, Luke sat in the adjacent 18-seat, surrounded by men, bulky ones, feeling a bit cramped, not very comfortable.

Luke looked at the two companions of the bearded man, "You two get lost too."

One guy with a tattoo on his neck said, "We have tickets, seat 19 is mine."

The other man took out his ticket, "I'm seat 20."

"I don't care.

I don't want to see you, get lost immediately or else..." Luke showed them a look as if they understood.

"You can't do that, we've bought tickets.

We have the right to sit here," the tattooed man protested.

"Before I change my mind...

Get lost." Luke's voice was low, carrying some provocation.

The two companions of the bearded man looked at Luke for a moment, ultimately chickened out, leaving angrily.

Luke moved to seat 19, the adjacent seat was empty, felt spacious and made him happy.

Two bikini beauties also took the stage...
